Quick unboxing of the Lifan 125 motor going into my CT70 restomod. I also sit it next to the original 72cc motor for size comparison. This was ordered off eBay, model: LIFAN 1P52FMI-K
Let me tell you, I’ve rebuilt Honda’s and lifan’s, they are very similar and the Honda design is one of the best ever. Want a showroom quality bike all stock, rebuild your Honda, but if the old engines got a blown tranny, kickstart shaft, or crank/rod, swap it over. Such an easy and rewarding swap
The C70 engine is pretty underpowered and inefficient though since it uses an IDI system, you're better off getting a C100 CDI engine from a Honda wave or ex5(C100ex)
@@tristan6509 what does the ignition system have to do with engine efficiency? They both make great spark and have great ignition timing control. And the Honda engine was never designed for maximum power, so stop thinking like that. The little Honda horizontal engines were designed for fuel economy, price, and reliability, as they were for the Honda cub, a bike that changed transportation around the world.
@@connorssmallengines6663 since when did I mention maximum power? The Honda C70 can't even keep up with modern traffic, its a common motorcycle where I live and even most people here engine swapped with with an Honda 100 or 125 engine And yes the C70's IDI engine is not that efficient, and combined with it's 3-speed transmission it only gets about 50-60km/l (100-140mpg) as opposed to the ex5(c100ex)'s 4-speed engine which can get 90-100km/l(200-235mpg) so you save a LOT of money in the long run, it might not matter in the US where gasoline is cheaper than bottled water, but gasoline is expensive where I live.
@@tristan6509 the Honda c70 wasn’t designed for modern traffic! My whole point is that the engineers can not see 40 years in to the future, dumbass. And 120 mpg is still extremely good. If you increase your gearing you can get better mpg anyway. Small displacement bikes are uncommon in the us, after 60 mpg people don’t care anymore, it’s just an extremely fuel efficient vehicle.
@@connorssmallengines6663 the C70 wasn't designed for traffic back then either. And increasing your gearing would increase fuel economy, but it would become slow as shit in the already slow engine. Small displacement bikes are very common where I live and people care a lot about fuel economy because of expensive gas prices, for context there are 120 million motorcycles where I live with the majority being 125cc but only 15 million cars, the C100ex engine is both more powerfull and fuel economic while being just as reliable so I don't see why there's anything wrong with swapping the c70 with that.
Don't forget the wider (pit bike) foot pegs. You can also connect the yellow and white charging wires to get full time charging. There is also a two inlet divorced pet cock so you still have a reserve. Mine hits highway speeds. 12 inch rims help a lot(billet and 2 piece are available) :)
I have a similar motor to one you replacing 125cc taotao I ordered I new replacement motor it came with that lever changer or gear changer u have how did u make that work
I have 2 Honda trail 70’s I am going to restore. One motor won’t turn over so I may be doing a Lifan swap but the other one is going to be completely original except I’m replacing the wiring harness.
People hate on the Lifan 125 but man I've beaten this engine to death and it still pulls so freekin strong ! Keep the air cleaner clean, 87 octane fresh gas, and fresh oil every year and this engine will pull forever !
Probably is the most decent out of the Chinese motors with the 110cc no starter motor being really strong. Delivery guys in Greece use that and have put thousand kms on them. Crankshaft failure is the most common issue on lifan engines. I don’t know if they’ve fixed the issue in the most recent batches.
Now I'll be bragging LOL thanks to mr. East Coast for my birthday my wife asked me what I wanted I said well I really would like a big boar high performance 125cc Lifan engine with a 4-speed automatic transmission and that's what I got for my birthday from my dear wife God bless her from 62 years old I am disabled and retired so I got to stay busy I have a October 1969 Honda CT70 cuz I am in the process of semi restoration I remove the old engine I'm going to have it rebuilt but I am going to install my 125 Lifan engine I just can't wait mr. East Coast is going to console me on the wiring for a small fee of course LOL thank you mister East Coast I really appreciate you my friend you're awesome thank you for that very educational videos you are one of my best instructors on CZcams for my bike I thank you for that take care and God bless thanks again
actually no the 125 semi auto is quite tame power and is rideble pretty ease here in greece is full of lifan motors 110 125 150 and beyon they are quite good and i'am 3 years late BUT PLS NEXT TIME BREAK IT IN so it last longer its a fresh motor
Great video. Hope your bike rocks!

Do all brand new pit bike engines come woth carburetor
How about the chain mate? Does the rear cog align with the engine's cogs to have a straight line?
Yes, chain aligns straight.
From where do i can buy a lifan engine?

I get the hate in that it's not authentic Honda in some of these rebuilds, but I agree it's a great motor.
