- Do you love finding cool rocks? Rockhound Theo Kellison and I sure do and this winter adventure is full of them! Braving the Montana winter, Theo and I headed out for a few hours of collecting on the good old Yellowstone. Your mind is about to be blown as you see all the unbelievable colors and bands of semi-precious insaneness. Reds, greens, yellows, blues, browns- so many colors of jasper. Plumes and moss, boytroidal pockets and beautiful fortifcation banding. And then... the best for last. Watch Theo discover a gorgeous chunk of Yellowstone River petrified wood IN THE MATRIX! A truley RARE find in Montana, never found before by either one of us.
Looking to learn about Yellowstone River agates? This is a publication from 1972 by a man named Paul Fry. This was the very first literature I read when I was learning about Montana agates. It is called "Meanderings of a Montana Rockhound" and it is priceless:

Here is another page with great information on Montana Agates by Jim Landon called "Montana Agate: The Best Catch on the Yellowstone River" :

For all those asking, I do not sell my rocks. As my supply permits, I do rock trades. So, if you have some nice specimens you think I would like to add to my collection, we can trade via any size flat rate post office box. Or, if you are an artist or have something else you think I would like, that's an option too! Please be patient as I have lots of emails and sometimes miss some. If you are wanting to purchase some Montana rocks, I have listed the Stores below of two fellow Montana Rockhounds KatyDidRocks and Theo Kellison, great friends of mine.
As far as places I rockhound, greater than 90% of the time I utilize PUBLIC fishing access spots on the Yellowstone river. KatyDidRocks has a great book out on all the places us Montana rockhounds like to go on the Lower Yellowstone River:

While you are there, check out her store! She has some fantastic Montana rocks for purchase.

Also, if you follow Theo Kellison on CZcams, another fantastic Montana Rockhound, he has an Etsy Store with rocks for sale as well:

Thanks for following and Rock On!
Best of luck on all your hounding adventures.

Don’t worry Kim, i think most of us here would “girly scream” too when finding a stunner of a piece like that. I bet Theo did when he saw it.😂.
Haha Thank you! I was quite embarrassed with that!
Yay🤣😍🤗🙃😄😆😁girly😱 scream OMG out of this World🌐
EPIC EPIC finds......👸ROCK👷 TREASURE HUNTERS......GO GO GO!
🏆🔎📹🔎🎬🔎📷🔎🌤️🏞️🌠🌟⭐
Lol truth!!!!
That mossy blue agate is indeed beautiful ! WOW !!
That one is going on my keeper shelf for sure!
So nice, I watched twice. I'll be coming back to this one, for sure.
👍Wow!!!..... that was a huge rock bed at the beginning of the video. Wish we were there with you guys. Some of those rocks just call out to you, "pick me"! Others hide for the next season. So cool. Rock On, MRM....and Theo👍😎❤️ So much fun on a cold winter day.❤️
Many years ago with my Rock club I would go to every hunt all around Texas and the five state area around Texas. I literally collected a pile in my backyard 4ft high and quite wide and square. A literal Ton of material. I never cut and polished it all getting other stones also. After 40 years I collect to specifically cut and polish the stones to make jewelry. Not every stone picked up is suitable. You have to be more choosy. But it's still very addictive to try to get everything you can and you never stop looking.
That "trifecta" piece of wood was a score! I think even the toughest dude would scream finding that sweet little agate. Great finds throughout.
I love the screams i still do when I find a stunner or cut one open and it's amazing
You are so fortunate to be where you are considering the geological history is conducive to produce what you are finding.
Montana = Rockhound Paradise
Simply beautiful
That was so awesome!!!!!! Thanks!!!!
You both did fantastic! Thanks for sharing this video...
Glad to see people out, even if it's a bit chilly ..
So many colors and choices of material....
As for screaming, no worries, should here my rebel yell when I find a beauty laying on the ground ..
♥ Like a breath of fresh air!
I think you and Theo make a great couple.
Ya' gotta love that agate glow!
Good night Friday‼😊💚 Could you have found any better rocks⁉️ So glad you 2 shared‼👍
Hello again!
You sure find some pretty stuff!
I just wanted to throw something out to you. Where the sand and rocks are look like they might produce some gold. Blacksand would be an indicator for gold. And it would help feed the family! Just a thought!
Take care my friend!
Yeah, it pays to be the first ones out on the bar after the first turnover. That was a wow day all around.
Wow this is my favorite one so far of both of you!!! You guys found some very cool stuff!!! 😎 Rock on!
Wow that Blue mossy bit very cool beans

Nice video!!
Thank you for sharing!!
Such a great trip. beautiful rocks.
Hi MRM, what a great hunt, some nice agates and some stunning jaspers and petrified wood,Jasper agate, being a special. Though a couple of those jaspers are just remarkable. Having Theo along was a bonus with that agatised wood cut out of that rock a stunner. Another captivating video.
Keep Safe & Keep Rockin
The piece at 6:45 mark looks like it came in a lava flow. So Cool... So many unusual finds today.. Some of the Jasper seems to Glow & Radiate almost like Tiger Eye.. Really Beautiful.. ~ OMG ~ Too bad Theo didn't have a wagon or wheelbarrow to take more of that Petrified Stump home.. I'm surprised you weren't both so weighed down you could hardly get back to your cars... Amazing trip..
AWESOME Jasper, yellow, b e u t i f u l🤩🤩🤩And that Agat? with the orange/yellow patterns inside, wow, you really did find a LOT to day, to be happy for, that blue too with Agat-pattern at one side👍👍👍And so nice to have Theo with you, he looks like a nice guy👍👍❣❣
I'd scream too! And jump up and down! Beautiful!

I kept waiting for you to fall over because of all their rocks in your backpack. You both did very well. So much color! Love all the pet wood and the knot especially. Keep the goodness coming. Be happy, safe and stay healthy 😷⚒

I agree with you on the colours. Love your videos and your enthusiasm. I watch all of the rock hounds in you tube.

Wspaniałe okazy
Dziękuję, przyjacielu
The one that I wish you could go back for is the one near the green/blue jasper find.If you go back over this video, you will see it in the left hand corner, when you found that stone.OH! I wanted to see you pick it up so bad!It seems like it was white with pink dots on it.If you could figure out where you found the green one,you might see it again. If I lived there-ohhhhh man,it would be fun!
I drive myself insane with everything I see that I missed when I watch my videos!
I screamed too, lol. You've got some amazing finds out of that rock outing day. Always nice to see both of you share with us your rock passion. Rock on🤘

✨✨ Beautiful Rocks
That yellow jasper at 7:45 is beautiful.
Wow great finds! Wish i could go rockhounding with you all..that would be a blast!
Really nice hunt, such beautiful finds!❤️❤️Thank you!
Watched Theo’s video of this and waited for yours to come out and i missed it completely for almost a day after u put it out. Those were some amazing finds you guys had. Just amazing jaspers. Love the green and the multi coloured ones. And that blue agate you guys found at the beginning was awesome. And the one that caused your girly scream was super pretty and the fortifications were cool. I hope Theo gave you some of the petrified wood he got out of the limestone. That stuff was sooooo pretty. Thanks Kim for doing this video. So cool. Cant wait for the snow to get off the ground here. Envy you guys so much. 😀
Hi Theo
Amazing finds, stellar day!
Such incredible finds!🤩 Wow! I love them all. I'm sure quite a few of them will make wonderful slabs. Did you ever find out what that smaller weird one was? Thanks for sharing Kim!✌🤠
Under the Microscope it looks like some type of coral. It has some agate as well as quartz, calcite, aragonite and other stuff I haven't been able to identify yet... Thinking it must have weathered out of its Matrix recently....
The jasper at 7:17!!!!
I am jealous that you live that close to a veritable goldmine of agates and fossils! It is completely unfair that you have such treasures within arms reach (well sorta) while we, in SoCal, have to buy our dreams from Ebay! Of course there is a payoff in what is known as "the weather", wherein we do not suffer from freezing temperatures or traffic clogging snow. But, I would gladly exchange a day of rockhounding in freezing temps with a day at the 70 degree beach. But just one day! And how do you make the choice of which beauties you fill your backpack with? There isnt a knapsack big enough to fit all the rocks I would hope to find! Dreaming of your agate beaches. (or rivers)
I dream of your warm weather sandy beach.
@@MontanaRockMom Mutual admiration for sure.
While the big rocks are nice sometimes it better to collect the small ones since you can carry more of them.
If I go to Montana will you take me rockhounding on the Yellowstone?
What area are you hunting? Just a general area, I don't want to steal your spot or anything. I am looking for a good area to take my 11 year old daughter. We mostly go to the Blackfoot River up by Lincoln. Looks like you are on the Yellowstone, and I have no idea where to begin on that river. Great video and finds!
I used to think the best hunting for rocks was East of Billings on the Yellowstone. However, I have friends that continue to find such amazing agates, jasper and petrified wood from as far west as public access to the Yellowstone River goes! The Clark's Fork River is awesome too, as well as any of the tributaries out of both of those rivers!
Great stuff. Do you get opalized pet wood up there?
At 1:23 where you pick up that beautiful yellow green agate did you get the pink and green one just to the left?
No. Trust me...I'd take the whole gravel bed if I could.
What an awesome spot. Wow the material. How far is this from Pocatello Idaho?
guess what guys? I just upgraded my rock tumbler. just recently got a 15lb thumbler tumbler. 😆and yea i'd scream too if I found a trifecta
What makes the bright blue? It's beautiful.
Most of the time the blue color is caused by the interference of light. The agate is made up of microscopic quartz crystals. There are voids between the individual crystals where light passes. Often, as you handle the agate you see different shades, depending on the light.
@8:36 How does one just find that on the surface? I wanna rock hound there! T-T
That sure was a stunning rock wasn't it!
Would love to hunt in this area. What’s the closest town to this area of the Yellowstone?
Billings, MT
Was that opal in the last rock
Blue agate with some white common opal
@@MontanaRockMom it was spectacular for sure, I can’t wait to see it cut or polished up!¡!:)
Why are you turning the dog on the Geese?
Chopper wouldn't know what to do with a goose if he got within 10 feet, LOL. He just likes to chase them, and they like to chase him. The thrill of the chase-- for both sides- they couldn't be happier playing
8:48! Calm! 🤕😵💫
Broască râioasă? 7:27 :)
What are these? 9:15 🤓
I do not think it is a coral. 13:10
As always enjoyed watching thanks for sharing and I just recently uploaded my first video on CZcams you should check it out also I'm new to your channel I gave you a sub good luck and happy hunting 👍
You are so fortunate to be where you are considering the geological history is conducive to produce what you are finding.
