I just upgraded my old am4 system to this cpu in 2023. I was able to get it on sale for under $200 so I feel like it becomes a great price to performance now. Only thing I'm working on is thermals. My old cooler isn't quiet enough for this monster. Hopefully a new cooler and some undervolting will do the trick and it'll get me through a few more years.
Thanks for getting the review out so quick. I'm glad I went for the 5800X. The 5600X just wasn't enough and the 5900X was too hard to get
@@nami1378 i know this is late as hell but i changed the voltage on my 5800x to 1.2 and then set the clock to 4.7ghz and its run under 80c smoothly for about 2 years
Totally convinced by the power consumption chart! More cores would be nice when editing, but my computer is on 24/7 and this is a great balance of power vs heat/energy. Great job!
Great realistic review. Thanks for your options, just picked this up.
Hello and good day to all! Much love from the US of A to ya Brian and Tech Yes City. I hoping one day to see you stream with Rogue. I've got to say you Ozzies have found a way into my heart. 💟🤗 Great vid as always brother!
First review of this series that actually makes sense! Thanks for not being afraid to go against the grain my friend.
Glad to hear some positive comment about the 5800x. Lol. I just picked mine up today. :) your comment after the amd presentation about the single ccx actually set my thoughts on the 5800x. Glad your enjoying it :)
There's nothing wrong with a 5800x it's just supercede by other chips
Thanks man, you really tamed my post purchase regret . Everyone was shitting on this so bad, I thought i made a bad decision. This def does the job for me cus i wont be using 10 or 12 cores as i dont edit or stream as such.
This cpu is a beast with undervolt. I have mine with 4925 mhz all cores with these settings in the bios or ryzen master. -30 curve optimizer, 123 ppt, 80 tdc and 90 edc. Temp idle at 32 and max load is 72 at full load. I do have a arctic 420 on it too though.
Mine boosts to 4.85 -30 on all cores plus I picked it up for 170 from amazon
Brian, just wanted to thank you for all the effort you put into your videos. Admittedly, a new Ryzen would be massively epic to own, but after watching your videos, I just cant get my eyes off of aliexpress Xeons and budget builds. Thanks again man!! (you've also inspired me to pursue a degree in I.T., so thanks for that too :))
Hell yeah brother, I got a xeon x3440 build for fun, considering it's age it's an absolute beast, I'm gonna buy a better mobo and get it on fast ram with a good gpu. (Also watercool and delid it, It can do 4ghz oc but it gets to hot on air).
Good video, nice to see a different slant from most of the other reviewers. Would love to see an overclocking video for beginners on getting the best out of the 5800X as it looks like it has the headroom to stretch. I went for the 5800x on launch day for your exact reasons, so pleased to see the benchmarking showed a positive result. Still waiting for my CPU to arrive (was changed to a pre order) but I think it will get here before my 3080 :(.
Happy to see some praise for this cpu, I wanted 5900x at first but single ccx and no infinity fabric sold me on the 5800x
smart guy, I have a 5800x and for some reason my benchmark numbers are higher than some of these techtubers numbers are. For cinebench r23 I have 1640 single core score and 15515 multicore, I just used ryzen master auto-oc. For speedometer 2.0 (html performance that reflects web browsing responsiveness) i'm getting 171mph. Based on others scores on 5900x i'm getting better single core score and better speedometer 2.0. Based on techyescity's score it's better at gaming. So essentially the 5800x is just better overall unless you're doing something that can leverage the additional cores. If I needed a 5900x I would just get a 5950x. The only thing the 5900x is good for is being a budget video editing/productivity cpu. 5800x is better for the gamer, 5950x is better for the person who needs the extra cores for productivity, virtualization, etc. To me the 5900x just seems like an upsell/jack of all trades master of none. The only thing is, I'm not sure why everyone's numbers are so different. I've seen a lot of benchmarks that put the 5900x ahead of the 5800x in gaming, but comparing my scores to online 5900x scores the 5800x is better.

hehe... Still playing the waiting game on this one since I couldn't buy one on time! I'll upgrade my PC eventually!
Thanks for the vid, Bryan!
Great vid! Got 5800x and 3080 set coming in 3 days!!
Great video Brian.
Great review I love the wqhd and 4K benches.
THANK YOU for talking about this being a great cpu to purchase & have for the next few years. Most tech reviewers only talk about buying for today's gaming titles, but I always look at how far into the future do I want my product to last before I feel I should upgrade.
Short, sweet and to the point! Tech Yes Lovin distributed to the citizens! Thank you Bryan.
Bro its the one I will get out the stack, great reviews as always your the real Champion
Finally, a positive review for 5800X ! Soon I will jump from my old friend i7 6700 to this ''nice to have for the next 5 years CPU''. Thank you Tech YES City !
It's the more (for the lack of a better phrase) forward thinking people like you and Bryan who would prefer the 5800x. Bryan is probably one of the top "value for money" youtubers out there and he chose the 5800x over the 5600x. Other reviewers of idea's of value for money is only looking forward 1 and at most 3 years. Their thought process is game for a year or two and upgrade to the next decently valued cpu and so on, adding cost to each upgrade, which will eventually even out the "wasted" money for justifying the 5800x now.
In the end, for any competent minded person and whatever their idea of "value for money" is, money spent will even out. I personally got the 5800x and also plan on using it for the foreseeable future, as I did with my 4770k. Until the 20xx series geforce came out, my 4770k held out very well. I predict my 5800x will do the same.
The 5800x Fits my needs perfectly I couldn't deny myself from it. I run a Linux VM, lite editing for youtube videos/streaming and playing games. I'll pair it up with a 6800xt!
yeah I would not go the 6800xt esp if you do lite editing for youtube videos/streaming as that's one area where team red fail hard, I was hoping to do a all team red build but their gpu's are behind the comp yet again :(
Subscribed since you are literally the only source I can find that agrees with me! Thank you!!
Very nice video. I've settled on the 3090 and 5800X under water.
love your videos! though would you manually overclock the 5800x or use PBO on a curve and let XFR 2.0 do the work.
Finally someone not burning down the 5800X thanks Brian! great video loved it ;)
I just bought the 5800x I wasn’t sure if it was gonna be good or not but seeing you love the 5800x makes me feel good about my purchase so thank you 🙏🏽
I just upgraded my current system from the Ryzen 5 5500 to this chip. I also expanded my system RAM with another pair of 16GB DDR4 3,200 Mhz sticks of Patriot Viper Steel memory. Now I have 64 gigs of system RAM and the Ryzen 7 5800X CPU and boy does it make a difference. Now I just need to upgrade my monitor to a 1440p 100+ hz model and I'll be set. My current GPU is the XFX Radeon RX 6700XT Speedster Swift309 12GB GDDR6 graphics card so I should be able to game at 2K on High to Ultra settings in most games now.
Thanks bro!
👍Thumbs Up👍& I have the B450 steel legend MOBO so is it as simple as calling them up to figure out if everything works together in regards to up grading the cpu? Just Typing (Thinking) Outloud againg🤭🤣🤫.Actually after watching this I'll just go 3600 from my 2600 amd cpu, wyt?
Awesome video, thanks mate! Really love that 5800x, but not loving the price tag =\
5800X is the one I was waiting for, in fact I waited for this specific CPU for years. The first non-cutdown uniform 8-core, and it'll be my CPU for the next 10+ years. 5950X is the only other CPU I would consider, 6-cores are headed to the grave soon when Squadron 42 comes out.
@@jameshay6926 PS5 and XSX will be on the market 10++ years. That's why I say 10 years, the 5800X exceeds both consoles by 40%-50%.
Can you shar e your overclocked settings please?? I would like to try it out on my 5800x
Currently happy with my 3600. But will love to pick this up next year as a Black Friday purchase.
Not budget friendly for me. I'll wait for someone to sell their 3600.
Bought a used 3600 awhile back that claimed it only worked with 1 ram stick but all the pins looked fine and everything and they sold it for $100 and it worked perfectly immediately
they're already a good deal in terms of dollar for dollar against the 5k series. once the discounts kick in, boy it's gonna be a 3000 party
Hey man, have you encountered any issues with the 5000 series and x570 MSI motherboards where the XMP Profile above 3200 causes a no boot? There is an entire Reddit thread on this.
As always I appreciate and love the content man! Keep it up :)
I was not sure about buying this chip. Glad I did saw this video. I want the 12 core. But with the semiconductor shortage I jump on this. Thanks for video.
Personaly i would love to get my hands on the R7 5800X that would make my editing experience just amazing and gaming too. When i still had my X5690 4.5ghz setup on the rampage 2 extreme that was also great but the renders were 1:1 with the video lenght. I would love to get the 5800X but i cant afford it☹
sorry to hear your quiet scream for help that Bryan. We're here for you brother
Highly recommended. Very impressed by it. Actually wanted the 5900x but it can't be found anywhere for a long while just like the 5800z so when the 5800x showed up grabbed it right away and I can't complain
I find alot of tech channels are very focused on high refresh rate gaming these days, whereas I barely ever hear about ultra wide for instance. I wish the Steam Survey would include in their monitor analysis something for Hz gaming.
Another tech tuber (Daniel Owen) has Ultra wide and in a recent video discussing their use quoted a figure of IIRC 1-2%.
You could ask him where he sourced the figure, as he interacts a lot. It would explain why they are ignored.
Love your content man!
Which b550 motherboard would you recommended?.... not planning on overclocking but would like features.
I'm interested in the strix E
A year later and one of the only ones that got it right. Well played sir. 👍🏽
Authorative and balanced summary without theatrics. Subscribed... At least the hate has resulted in the 5800x being available at somewhere around MSRP here in the UK, which makes it better value compared to the 5600x marked up by 20% or more.
Very happy with mine. It's a beast when you undervolt it.
I bought one. It finally arrived. Can't wait to play with it.
Hi great video.. just upgraded to this cpu and with a b550 AsRock gaming 4 itx but my benchmark test is really poor. I know I only have a 1050ti palit storm x GPU but surely this can do better? Any tips to get it to run better as no idea how to overclock or under volt.
I had been planning on getting the 5800x, even had one in my cart for pick-up but cancelled it because they raised the prices! it's now $30CAD over MSPR and if I'm going to cave I might as well spent the extra $130CAD for $5900x.. yes I'm worried about the latency as well, but I do a lot of transcoding for work and that will be worth it over gaming hopefully.
@@Matruchus ouch! I could have snagged a 5800x AT MSRP on launch day but was stuck at work. tried to skip over during a break and they were gone by then.
so far there hasn't been issues with 5900x on latency so far as I know none of the tech CZcams came across anything bad as far as latency is concerned
@@Anthonyspartan514 I saw one video (hardware unboxed I think...) who said they didn't have a good way to test it yet so maybe that's why.
Probably should have watched this before I ordered mine. But being into primarily video editing I am pretty happy with my purchase.
I bought 5800X aswell, but after 2 days i decided that i want better bang for the buck, and i was also worried about temperatures on that 5800X. So i ordered 5900X, which has the same performance in gaming overall, lower temps, more cores and threads, much better perf / price ratio and i would say its better future proof aswell, assuming that i want to keep that CPU for like 5 years-
Then why not spend 100 more and get a 12 core? Lol. The pricing on the 5800x is the most idiotic thing ever. 150$ more for two extra cores from the 5600x, but if you pay 100 more you get 4 more cores, not two, 4!
@@cloudcata8300 They'll probably drop the price in a few months or less. Maybe they priced it like this to sell more of the other ones. Never really know with them monitoring our behaviors and words online and using AI to process simulations of our future behavior.
@@cloudcata8300 2 cores and 4 threads more plus the head room for heavy tasks
@@kluxii244 5 years? It will last way longer than that (insane passmark singlethread scores) and the 12 cores.
Mine tends to run hot, which I knew when I made the purchase so I planned my build around it. I have a 360 aio with the radiator on top and the fans under it pushing air from the inside out and 3 140mm fans on the front pulling cool air in. The front fans do not have to spin as fast to move the same amount of air so it is quiet there and the radiator blocks much of the noise from the internal fans. It does kick up to 90c during long stress tests, but even at those temps the clocks stay solid right around 4.5ghz on all cores. Once the tests are over it cools down pretty quick.
I also have a 5800x, h115i pro xt as cooling, 2 top and 1 back exhaust and 2 bottom ones, 3080 gpu. Out of the box the cpu ran very hot and throtled (for me) because it gave almost 1.4V. I undervolted in the bios (after ryzen master testing) and changed the PBO (power boost option) to negative 30 and now the cpu only gets around 1.2875V and does 4750 rock stable. Idle temps are now 36C and stresstested 83C. I recommend an undervolt my man.
@@spadedaman4958 Wow. What just a few hours of research can do for you. Managed to get to 4775 and finish 1 R20 test at 6305. Wasn't very stable but at those settings but when I kicked it down to what you gave it works just fine and I don't break 80c. Oh and only dropped to 6259 so still respectable.
I upgraded to the 5800x from 2700x and its so smooth. Delighted with it.
Such a great video! I've only seen people hate on the 5800x. Is this CPU a good option for someone looking to get into youtube video creation/editing and streaming, or should I hold out for the 5900x?
Appreciate the alternative perspective on the 5600X, 5800X? I probably would wait for the 5700X and/or 5600, still not sure I want to invest more in 8 cores, by the time it matters maybe I'll be upgrading again anyway. How about a few tests, load up a system with a 5600X, run a couple of benchmarks with nothing open, then load your chrome, discord, spotify etc, run em again, rinse repeat with a 5800X? That would be really interesting because, I mean you'd want to test a couple of CPU intensive and CPU light games to see the differences
I purchased my 5800x last Thursday and I am watching the tracking number as it makes it way to me intently 😁
Im just impressed how easy overclocking is now. I just switched PBO to manual only changed the offset to 200mhz and my 5800x now regularly boosts to 5,05ghz single core and 4,95 ghz 2-3 core boost
Thanks again
Mr tech yes, I have a serious question. I have an HP elite 8300 SFF PC and I'm looking to upgrade from integrated graphics (yes I know my fps is horrid) to a Zotac GTX 1650 low profile. I've been doing some troubleshooting for the cpu I have to see if it's a bottleneck. My cpu is an i5-3470 and it seems that it might hold my GPU back and I've already gone over budget, should I spend $86 or more that the LGA 1155 socket supports. My budget is tight now and I'm wondering if you could help me find something that is cheap and plentiful as an upgrade if you could help me that would be wonderful, thanks 😊

Just a suggestion, snicie you guys would be the first one to do one and all of esports is on 1080p
what mic do you have?
and what are your settings
what would your opinion be between a 5600x and a 3700x for gaming and light workloads?
what idle temps do you have on this 5800x? (and on which cpu cooler?)
I have a 5800x but the temps are seriously too hot I’m constantly hitting around 75-90c playing games. Running Arctic liquid cooler 2 240mm any help?
As someone who is selling their 3600x, this decision to raise the prices for the 8 core makes me confused as to whether to just get it anyway or splurge a little more and get the 5900x even though I won't be able to leverage all the cores.
I'm so confused about this CPU. I originally wanted to get it but I kept seeing posts regarding heating issues. I'm still drawn to it, but what have you guys done about its heating issues?
I prefer the 5900X and 5950X since they have double the write performance of single CCD chips. Same read perf, but doubled write.
@Tech YES City If I am a streamer, will the 5800X be enough for me? I will be making some youtube videos also but I have to say twitch is my main platform. Should I hold out for a 5900x or will 5800x be ok because I can find a 5800x right now but 5900x is very hard to find up in Canada here.. Thanks
I baught a very little used (just test installed) 5800x for only 300 dollars!! VERY happy with it and the price I got it for! :)
Where would the i7 10700f fall in the value based on pricing chart. And is the i7 worth it just for gaming?
I built a PC for my son around the 5800x as he has three monitors, wants to stream and do video editing etc so this CPU ticked all the right boxes. I'm getting myself tied up in knots now though because it runs hot (80' when gaming) so have been looking into undervolting. Problem is after watching 20 videos on how to do it, they all use different settings so I'm more confused than ever. One looked quite straight forward but after doing a negative 15 on all cores, the CPU temps went from 70 to 80. I should say here that after a recent BIOS update the stock temps are now lower (80' down to 70' but now I've done lots of research on undervolting, even lower temps would be nice). Despite seeing higher results in Cinebench, 5850 from 5575, I've reset the negative 15's back to 0 until I can work out why my CPU temps went up instead of down. Can someone do a very comprehensive undervolting guide for noobs? I can't seem to find one on youtube.
I picked this one up. I just wanted an 8/16 zen3. It is what it is.
I got it, but the most worry some part is ,my 5800x touches 90°C at full load and clocks wont cross 4.45Ghz at full load. Using a noctua nh d15 in a well ventilated mesh case. So no idea whats going on.
got my hands on a 5800x today, i personally wasn't a fan of how hot it gets on default/stock settings, 85-90c is apparently normal, but just not comfortable for me. so after a few hours of tweaking, i managed to just disable PBO and any other boosts, went with an all-core OC of 4.5Ghz @ 1.2v, it runs coooool. dont see it go above 65c while gaming, 75c during bench, 40c on desktop idling. this is with a wraith prism cooler with a fan curve that stays at 950 RPM until after 68c. after these changes i felt much better with the cpu temps and performance, also yes..my usages are gaming/recording/streaming/video editing, so the 5800x hits the mark for my uses.
I've bought one too. Thanks.

hi Brian, can you recommend what components will you use with 5800x ? in meaning of mothearbord ? b550 or other one ? also the memory sticks ? can you advice ? thanks Martin
The X series Ryzens all appear to run very hot, around 80+ deg. I've heard extra cooling makes very little difference. Can you comment on this?
The 5600 should be the new performance and value king, waiting for that one
Mine arrived today and i had only problems since i put it in.
Made a BIOS update before, installed the latest chipset drivers (in fact i worked in IT and have some exp).
As soon i put the 5800X in i had constant blue screens, and crashes.
Tried everything, deactivating XMP, PBO, C-State control, installed a new Windows (and dropped all my VST-Plugins of my DAW for music producing...the whole reason i wanted to upgrade in the first place).
It kept crashing, i read into that problem, and saw many people and forums talking about it.
I know i could hassle around with voltages and such, but i want a stable out of the box experience, before i OC my setup.
Man what a bummer, i really wanted to like this CPU but so far it was one of the worst experiences, in my 20 years of IT.
RMA incoming and will settle on a 5700X i guess, hope that one won't let me down.
My 5800x auto OC to 4.95 ghz with the Ryzen Master software, air cooled too. I'm using a Cryorig R1 cooler, 32gb ram @ 3733 (OC to 4000mhz), on a Aorus Ultra x570 mobo.
So i cand understand is no need to oc it manually? and if i do it will raise the temps? I ll make my build next week and i m thinking oc it to 4.8 ghz and with kraken x63 and a phanteks p 500a case i hope will stay under 85 degrees.
@@babanu65 You can just let the AMD Ryzen master software take care of it for you. It will auto detect your CPU and run a quick stress test to see where it can OC to. I traded my 5800x for a 5900x and used the software to OC my CPU. User easy to use, and will auto OC the CPU safely for you. My "default" clock speed on the 5900x is at 4.9ghz, and Auto OC can get 5.05ghz. I just leave it at 4.9ghz to have rock solid stability.
The 5800X is a beast. I have mine at all stock BIOS settings, except for custom fan curves and turning on DOCP for the RAM and it's clocking up to 4.94Ghz on a Noctua NH-U14S. It normally doesn't go over 72 degrees under a real world heavy load. With Prime 95 during a torture test, it can reach 90C even, but only with the AVX instructions enabled. Even during the Prime 95 torture test, it was running at 4.6Ghz on all cores and never dropped below that. Geek bench gave me a 1720 single core benchmark. Sorry I lost the multi core Geekbench result, but it was over 10k that much I remember.
I'm using a Asus Tuf Gaming X570 Pro, a new mobo from Asus and Crucial Ballistics RAM at 3200Mhz. It's been updated to the most recent "stable" BIOS although it was running good out of the box.
This vid describes exactly the reason, i cancelled my early November 5900x preorder, and got me an actual available 5800x.
Situation here in Europe cpu wise looks way better than with all the gfx cards, but still - 5900x will actually be available only early next year.
So not because price (that's 0 concern for me, i had already paid the 5900x and getting refund), but the fun using an 8core 1ccd low latency monster of a chip.
And i don't really need (!) that many cores anyways, plus planning on up/sidegrading several pc's in the house too, when 5000 series refresh comes out next year.
Was extremely happy with the 3800XT (now my wife is, she enjoys the blistering speed in her now updated desktop, and the pure overkill on her casual&browser games).
And the 5800X as well - that's really an impressive chip.
Faster in anything, most noticeable in cpu dependent games
(rpg's and older titles. Or newer, like Serious Sam4, where the cpu makes a world of a difference - we're talking +/- 50fps differences here with same gfx card).
And the sweetest thing: all cores (not only 1,2 or 3 - all 8) reach 4850 easily, within a minute when checking with HWInfo, in single core/light loads, and around 4,4-4,6 in all core loads.
Does a tiny tad higher temp at ~75°C at full load, yet similar to the 3800XT, with a good case and 240 AIO.
But stock. And without PBO. And without even hitting the 140W limit doing so.
Does take 4 dual ranked 16G sticks@3600 (which btw also the 3800XT was able to) - just sweet.
I use an MSI MEG X570 Ace board btw.
And as it's so snappy it needs no oc in any way, i just tried a little bit for fun - it takes even higher single core/light load boost speeds set in bios/fmax with ease.
Or lower voltage on same clocks, or just have the best perfoming energy saver cpu by limiting it to 65 or 95W....simply because it can.
Damn awesome - don't miss the 5900x in any way, and with very low super-pi 1m numbers (for fun/doing comparison) it feels beefy, stable and quick in anything, "like Intel" - yet even faster 👍
The gamer in me went for the 5800x, I play COD and I'm happy to hear that it performed the best out of all chips in warzone, music to my ears!
You could've gone with even a 5600x because gaming is mostly gpu dependent and the 5000 series processors offer mostly similar performance maybe 10 fps difference between 5600x and 5950x.
@@grossly820 unfortunately I ordered my chip before any reviews had surfaced, that's what early adoption does for you 😂 I'm not really that fussed about, I sometimes do some demanding design work but very rarely, I'm sure the 5600x would probably cope very well with that also meh, I'm just glad I could support amd's future in R&D at the very least 😂

It would be great if they made APUs with this gen. I remember a rumour about an 8 core APU with integrated graphics as good as gtx 1060, if that ever launched, that would be my choice.
I got this basically on accident last night. Was shooting for a 5600x but I refreshed and clicked “buy now” and got a 5800x. I think I’m happy?
I head you say go with a good b550 mobo. Isn't the x570 a better option?
I think once in telegraphed their 11 Gen. And these will receive a little bit of a price discount cannot think that would be the best time to scoop him up hopefully that happened here in 3 months so i can get in January.
I just got one and I love it. I'm not in to overclocking dont understand how to do it properly and don't wanna risk any damage doing it wrong haha, but my cpu just auto boosts between 4800-4900 when I play games and I've noticed such a huge difference from my 2600 cpu haha
I ordered one because of the high single core clocks. I like to play some really cpu heavy games which hammer 1 core so a high clock speed + the nice zen 3 ipc is something I want.
What about future proofing because that 12 core chip will last a long time also can you try making a build with e5 2687w v4
HI Brian, i have a 3300x now with an RTX 2080. running a 5120 x 1440 screen im getting big dips below 60 FPS when gaming, will the 5800x make a solid difference over ther 3300x in FPS? seriously considering it
Almost ordered a 3900xt until watched this review. So here in Israel 3900xt and 5800x are price identical and my whole (or most) purpose is gaming. What should I do ?!
I just want to support amd due to the push they have been doing. I'm upgrading from 4770k and will be going 5800x asap with 570 formula seeing I'm straight watercooling
I got the 5800x. My OCD decided it over the 5900x because I plan on mating it with the 6800xt
Finally someone makes me feel better about buying the 5800x. Lol.
I think if a 5700 was available the 5600X wouldn't get so much love.
Same here. Anyone else get that buyers guilt after purchasing 😅🤣
Just look at the 3800X and why it's so unpopular. You will regret getting 5800X. You should either have gone for just 5600X or 5900X if you're that impatient to get a Zen 3 processor.
@@jonirojonironin5353 yeah fuck the facts stated in the video. The 5800x is trash!
@@jonirojonironin5353 The 5800X uses the highest quality silicon chips AMD has. The (presumably) upcoming 5700X will cost less but won't clock as high and the 5600X isn't futureproof enough.
