    I have the 500. It lives im my pickup. Here in GA we had some trees that needed to be taken down after irma. My chainsaw died on me so i grabbed the silky. It was a beast and it was easy to takedown full grown trees. I cant even imagine the way that 1000 would go through a log. Im trying to get the 650 approved for my fire dept. there are times that a saw is too close to trapped people , flammable substances or environments. These saws are nothing but incredible.

    I have the silky big boy and couldn't be more impressed with it. I would be proud to own the Katanaboy 1000, and would seriously consider it over a chainsaw if the price was comparable. These saws are no doubt the best, but the price is hard to justify for a lot of average consumers. By lowering their retail price, millions would have one of these saws over any other brand.

    • @Imightberiding
      @Imightberiding Před 7 lety +28

      I'm obviously not the owner of this channel but I have had a fair amount of experience with these saws so forgive me in advance for chiming in.
      That's a good question. Most of the Japanese edged tools are made & designed for use on soft woods as they have a similar climate & flora to the Pacific Northwest. It is however a misnomer that all soft woods (coniferous) are softer than hard woods (deciduous). Fir, Sitka Spruce & Juniper are very hard, tough woods.
      As a carpenter of over 30 yrs, I have used Japanese pull saws of all kinds on all kinds of wood since the beginning of the 1990's & can assure you that they are indeed very impressive. The narrow kerf, hardness of steel & razor sharpness & design of the teeth will make short work of most any wood. I seriously doubt you would have any problems as long as you remember not to push on the saw. That is the only issue I can see with hardwoods as you may damage the saw if you force it & the blade binds from pushing.
      *Edit: Just wanted to add that these saws are all available with blades of different sized teeth. The large toothed blades for green softwoods, the medium sized teeth for green hardwoods & the small pattern teeth for dry hard & soft woods.

    • @CanadianPrepper
      @CanadianPrepper  Před 7 lety +18

      I sawed a 18 inch live/ wet aspen on a sawhorse which is technically a hard wood, and it wasn't much different than pine in terms of effort. A lot of the dead pine were actually very sappy lots of resin at base so that pretty much cancels out any softwood advantage. It's also a fairly hard soft wood in my experience it has a density comparable to many hardwoods. 80% of wood harvested in the world is softwood so if something is going to be cut it likely will be a softwood.

      BonnieBlue2A I have a 500 and it works just as well for all types of trees! Bought it a couple of years ago for clearing out some woods in the Ozarks(I'm usually alone and don't like using a chainsaw without someone close by for safety) and it's easier than using a chainsaw unless you are going at it all day.

      Imightberiding This is a great answer Sir. I live in an area of Scotland which is heavily planted with commercial Sitka spruce. When dry this wood can indeed be very hard ; I would venture to say almost as hard as some hard woods.

    • @hembrasalvaje
      @hembrasalvaje Před 6 lety +1

      i would love to see how it would go on our ironbark here in australia. i have never seen a timber that blunts tools so fast so as you can imagine it is called that for a reason. very hard very dense and very heavy timber. damn good as firewood if you have some softer stuff to get the fire going on it though.....without the softer wood and decent sized pieces of you wont even get it to burn. simple kindling wont ignite it but once burning it burns very hot

  • @northcountryadventures7619

    Wow, I don't think I have seen any hand tool even come close to cutting as fast as that thing does. It looks like a person could cut all the logs needed to build a cabin in a day with a saw like that lol Very cool. Thanks for sharing.

    Wow, certainly does the job but man is that thing huge lol.. I could however see some situations where it could come in handy.

    Awesome review and I like all of my Silky saws. I have not found a saw that can match their performance and ease of use. Thanks again.

    Heres hoping they decide to sell em. Would save luggin a gas can n saw all over the bush. Not much bigger than an axe when its folded anyways, so i imagine it'ed fit on the side of a bag okay. Would totally like to get my paws on one.

    Check out the Silky Pocketboy. It's amazing for such a small saw. Great for the backpack!

    I'd buy one if they made it available. I'm an arborist and I'll love to bring that to work and freak my co-workers out! "Grab the 660....." Me: "Nah I got something better."

    I can vouch for the customer service in that when I ordered a saw and two extra blades, the blades were initially forgotten. I contacted the company and they expressed the blades I'd ordered to me and I'm good to go.

    When? I almost ordered a 500, but there is no way now. Same with the 650. Those are for girly men with baby poop muscles. I want the big baloney, not the little smokie. I want a meal, not a snack.

    Right now I am saving up for buying a katanaboy, and I believe that I will afford one around summer 2018. I frequently go on hikes. I feel that this saw will be too large to carry with me, however I think that I could possibly strap it to my backpack. Should I buy a KB 650 or a KB 1000?

    I have a 650 with large teeth. Most of the down trees on the trails are green oak or other hardwoods caused by high wind combined with heavy rain. It seems to take a long time to get through them. Is there a blade designed for green hardwood?

    Canadian Prepper I am an industrial designer and can draw up a more rigid blade shaft chuck for that beast. It definitely needs more support and a wooden handle with leather would hold true to ancient craftsmanship. I'd say stainless 304 or grade 3 Titanium chuck with a beauty wood and titanium shaft. Contact me here.
