Saw the Smoke Top on Truffle on the Rocks, and I'm dying to try one!
1:36 - It'd be nice if the bottom of the smoke-top had a friction-y surface so it was less inclined to slide off the glass.
We use the Smoke top in my bar, you get a good few months out of it before it burns down to the cap. It definitely won't last forever.
If it’s a massy piece of wood, it may last longer than you might expect. I could hypothesize that it would be like timber construction-you don’t have to fireproof timber construction because the wood chars in a fire and actually becomes the fireproofing, so it actually takes a long time to burn through. I hope you can give us an update after a while.
Great video guys! Have you tried the Foghat Cocktail smoker by 1000 oak barrel co? It has a bigger opening on top which seems a bit easier to use and can produce more smoke.

I kind of really like that Smoke Top thing. I have a full blown smoker but I'm always afraid I'm gonna set off my Smoke alarm and wake up my toddler or something. But I do love a smoked cocktail......Hmmmm the Price looks to be down to $50.......
For 80$ you get the lid, several packets of chips, the lighter and no butane. And replacement screens.
That smoking thingie is pretty neat. Looks like it is $50. Of course you also have to get a torch.

Yeah, I don't understand it - you can get a more versatile smoke gun for less money, which could also do multiple drinks at a time.

My wife got me a foghat, basically same thing for christmas! I love it! It is just a cool visual. not sure it gives off the full smoke effect, but it is fucking cool! I think the foghat one looks cooler, just fyi.
I wonder how hard the shaker will be to clean. I mean, it's unlikely you'll get any hard to remove residue if you properly rinse it after using it, but I can see maybe mint leaf pieces getting stuck in the strainer part.

Not sure why you had to keep hitting it with the torch. Mine came with a variety pack of chips - apple, cherry, few others. Once you light the chips you put this lid on it. Never had a problem with too little smoke

Seems like it could take up to a month to make a single Ramos Gin Fizz in that Maraca shaker.
With the smoker I would use a soft flame like a Bic lighter (1,100-1,400F) and not a torch which burns a lot hotter (3,600 F). With wooden pipes you don't ever use a torch to light them, you always use a soft flame like a match or a Bic lighter. Cigars torch, pipes no, you'll burn through the sides of the pipe.

I can't see the benefits of purchasing a smoker for old fashioned / whiskey based cocktails when you could buy a WHOLE 70 bucks bottle of smoked Islay Ardbeg. That's just waste of time, money and flavour. The maracas seems fun tho.
For $15 buy an incense burner waterfall and use wood shavings get the same results

That smoke top thing is totally unnecessary. Years ago a place in Pittsburgh I worked at did a signature drink called a smokestack. They just used a hawthorn strainer to smoke the wood. And the stainless will outlast that wood even if you keep one just for smoking.
