Malév was Hungary's national airline... When I listen to the Malév signal or just think about how it vanished after 70 years my eyes always get wet. I have never flown with it, but I heard, that it was one of the best european airline (it was a member of Oneworld too).

A moment of silence for AirBerlin! And Monarch.. One day after Air Berlin shut down flights.. 29th october. I miss the AirBerlin planes liveries here at my airport..
Even if AirBerlin went to bankruptcy, you can still see some planes from AirBerlin still flying. I saw one AirBerlin a320 (take -off) in Tegel Airport, Germany yesterday.
Yea they were bought by other airlines. I think. Im not sure. Probably operating for another airline and awaiting new livery paint.
PrtKillerZ [PKZ] most were bought by Lufthansa for expansion sister company, eurowings. Some are for EasyJets. But they are still operating lead by Niki. Maybe 5 - 7 flights per day.

Man I would have loved to fly on PanAm. It is hard to imagine how they went bankrupt because they owned the huge PanAm (now MetLife) building in new york.
I really miss Pan Am. They treated their staff so politely and respectively. But when it come's to an end and I realize again, I start to have tears in my eyes.
Yeah, but terrorists and KLM pilots had to make pan am planes crash causing bankruptcy.

Personally , Panam was the best airline in the world , they treated their staff like family such that there was a group even made from older Panam employees , just goes to show how much Panam actually cares about their customers and staff

The reason for those airlines to go bankrupt is that they were managed really badly in the first place. That means at the end they were no longer offering any competitive product and their services were not up to par with what is to be expected by the contemporary standards in both customer comfort and safety. So why the nostalgia? Those enterprises offered nothing for free, on the contrary, most of them most probably tried operating at an unsustainably high margin and never lowered their expectations thus began cutting from quality, thus transferred their wrong expectations to their customers. Do you people get it now?

Even though US Airways merged into American, the livery, brand and routes have kept going (I think)
Most of them beside merge with other airlines for good went bankrupt ... which is kind of sad but you never know.
Also A new Eastern Airlines started service in 2012 (en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_Air_Lines_(2015) ) , till today they operate charter flight and growing quite fast , they're expecting to have more than 35 aircraft (most are currently being built) in their fleet by the time of 2020.

Wow, I just rode on a US Airways flight for vacation a couple years ago, and still have a luggage tag on my bag, and had no idea they don’t exist anymore they were pretty good too.

Actually Varig was split in 2 airlines. The First one called "Velha Varig" (Which translating means "Old Varig") which absorves all the debits and bankrupt (Official name: Flex Linhas Aéreas), and the "Nova Varig" ("New Varig") which had all the credits of using the name Varig and was adquired by Gol Transportes Aéreos, which totally merged the company in the end of 2014.

Another one that doesn’t exist is the airline of Were i live,Air Florida began operations in 1972 but due to the devastating crash of air Florida flight 90 and the company not wanting a crash they shut down the company in July of 1984
The Continental "Globe" logo on the tailfin is still around today being used as part of United's livery.

Danair were bankrupted, they had a long bad patch of poor sales due to political and other outside influences, plus problems with owning a huge fleet of very different aircraft.
Danair was a good charter line which started with a DC3 just after WW2,they went on to fly the latest aircraft and later flew regular services until they merged with British Airways on November 8th, 1992. I had a good friend (Pilot )who I first met in the fifties, who flew with Dan air from DC3's to Bac 111's Avro 748's,727'sViscounts,Comet 4's Yorks DC4 andDC7's Ambassadors Herons and Doves amongst other aircraft, ultimately British Airways took over many of the aircraft and some staff in NOvember 92. after 40 Glorious Years of flying.I believe that a Comet 4, roriginally owned by BEA and later bought by Danair, has recently been refurbuished and now resides in a hanger of one the the better known British Air Museums, this may be of interest to Ex Danair fans.Caledoneian merged with Monarch some years ago. During this period I was in Air Traffic Control and I followed closely all the good old British Charter companies.Hoping this answers some of your Questions luvstellauk!
