      Uh by. Ok. And I think it's stupid for people to try to alter everyone's behaviour because of their 'fear'. That is what therapy is for. When I meet someone who 'Fears dogs' I let mine off the lead and let them get over it. 6 people in counting have been cured.

    • @compulsiverambler1352

      +Destiny Weaver I think it's stupid for people to try to alter everyone's behaviour because of their 'knee pain'. That is what physiotherapy is for. When I meet someone with "a bad leg" I chase them around and let them get over the pain. 6 people in counting have been cured - I mean they screamed in pain at first but they ran on their painful leg and then at some point stopped screaming so that proves I cured them. Lazy people obviously hadn't bothered going to physiotherapy or taking pain medication because if they were doing those things the pain would already be gone. Whenever treatment for any problem hasn't solved it yet, it must be your fault for not trying hard enough. Luckily I am here to force people to recover immediately when they were too lazy to be immediately cured by physiotherapy before. Physiotherapy famously cures you of pain as soon as you attend, just like psychotherapy, and if you're still in pain it must be because you didn't try hard enough to make the treatment work.

    Being scared of dogs can actually ruin your life. You feel scared to go to parties or round to people's houses who have dogs, no matter how big or small. I'm 12 and have had this fear all my life - I have no idea what brought it on. I think the scariest thing is when they come bounding up to you, you have no idea what they're going to do. Your heart starts pounding, you go dizzy and you just look for a way to escape. I was once on holiday and I ran across a really, really busy road just to get away from a dog. I understand to other people it sounds really stupid, but telling someone to just 'get over' a fear of dogs is almost like telling someone to stop bleeding when they've been shot. Drastic - I know, but I think people need to be a but more thoughtful and understanding to people with this fear.

I have a neighbor who has a dog who is very aggressive and will bark and lunge at people. Every bark gives me this awful feeling of dread and even looking at it gives me anxiety. But this is how I feel about all dogs. I think that it is very brave for her to face her fear and I'm so happy for her.

      To overcome your phobia you must consider the origin of how you learned to be fearful of dogs. No one is born with a dog phobia so there is always a reason why it started. This is usually from childhood with a specific single event often traumatic, or learning from a loved one to be fearful. We do have tips to help here on our channel. Do take a look around and really hope it helps. Good luck and thank you for stopping by our channel.

    I have cynophobia too but i hate it when people think that because you have it, you hate dogs which is far from the case. i have had such a traumatizing child hood with dogs i have been bitten, chased numerous times, have seen siblings and childhood friends scream for their lives as dogs chased them. i have been cornered by a dog as it's mouth oozed with saliva, showing it serrated fangs in a growl, and i have watched my own dogs get into nasty fights. So i can see why I have this. I am not scared of dogs if they are my own though, i am not afraid of small dogs like Pomeranians, and if i am around one enough and i notice it is very calm sweet and sedentary, then i will feel at ease. i do not hate dogs despite my phobia because at times i can deeply adore dogs they can be so innocent and affectionate.This phobia really hinders my life at times because I will avoid paths where i know i will encounter dogs, and i will not go to peoples houses if i knew they had a dog. i hope some day to overcome this fear because i am a very outgoing and social person but i feel that this cynophobia of mine greatly hinders my that.

    • @WonderfulAkari
      @WonderfulAkari Před 8 lety +2

      You should consider getting some therapy as you can see above just a little was a great help. Just enough so you're not hindered. Has a dog-lover (Who actually cries at videos of dogs, because dogs are so great and this is probably actually a mental problem) I fully support people not being interested in dogs and being afraid of them. I just hope people with Cynophobia can learn to dial that response down to a healthy level.

      @homedogoli Před 6 lety

      Cherry - Dogs do sense your emotions and easily pick up on fear, but just understand that 99% of the time they aren't being aggressive when they chase you. They see that as an invitation to play! They aren't chasing you to bite you, they are just having fun and playing. Of course there are badly socialised dogs out there with bad owners, and they can have bad reactions to people acting nervous around them, but they are extremely rare. It's perfectly rational to be nervous around a strangers dog, you shouldn't pet them unless you ask the owner first. I love dogs and I won't pet other dogs when I'm on a walk unless they are being playful! Just don't make eye contact and carry on what you're doing and you'll be fine. If you keep pushing yourself you will improve!

    Funnily enough we actually have a family dog (long story) a pitbull of all things... I dont touch him but I do go on walks with him (with my dad) and such and he seems to respect that. If I'm sick and not on the walk he'll keep stopping and looking for me but in the house he doesnt ask for strokes or anything, he'll sit near me but thats it. I love him as a pet (even though I miss out on the petting part).
    I wish I could pet him but even though I'm not afraid of him as I am of other dogs I'm worried about not being able to know what they're thinking or about to do. At any moment they could bite or jump on you etc (but thats my fear/worry with every decent sized animal haha)
    So yeah... Thats my weird story...

      Same... But I have a puppy.. I just got it yesterday (it's a German Shepherd mixed with a boxer so it's not so bad) and I play with it and pet it and stuff but as soon as it starts running, jumping, barking or biting I get so scared (and it already bit my mum.. She says that it's how the dog plays and it doesn't hurt at all but I'm still so scared)

      Dogs can tell when you're anxious or sad as well. As a dog mom/auntie I would never let them go up to someone who's cynophobic. I use to be cynophobic myself but it was very short lived, up until age 5 or 6. The toy Poodle we had helped me overcome it, and every since them I've been a cynophile.

      I only ever had a fear of spiders (not a phobia) and a mild disdain for cats. I always loved snakes and lizards as a kid. I always though they looked cute and while I knew they could be dangerous I always thought as them as cool. My first experience with one was with one of those people who bring animals to school. I got to hold a small one for literally a fraction of a second. It was was and felt like holding floral foam (Since my contact was extremely limited the texture couldn't register) That only further cemented my affection.

I had a huge fear exactly like the fear she has here. I was the same, if a dog was on a leash it was ok but if they were free at all I'd be so scared. It was the same reaction too. Then one day when I was around 12 I sat down and patted a dog I had been soo scared of for so long and after that I began to overcome it a bit.

When the owner showed up he stopped the dog and leashed, but he also yelled at me for making the dog nervous and was like " this is way too much!!! this dog kisses babies, and what you are doing is making him uncomfortable!" I apologize under fear and stress , but then thought about it, I wasn't supposed to apologize for that rude man.

    When I was little (9yo and younger) I had cynophobia. It was mild, though, but like I got scared when dogs came to me and I didn't want to go near them, and when they barked at you it was horrible. Once my friends parents gave me and my friend a ride to school, their dog was in the car and I started crying, so I had to go to the front seat and they kept the dog in the back, (it was a small dog). I got over it over time, but now I'm only not scared of small dogs. Big dogs are still scary and the most if they come at you with quick movements. One example is I was at a pet store and there was a small dog and a big dog that you could pet. I pet the small dog but when the big dog came I was too scared to go pet the small dog anymore

    Honestly this is inspiring. I have anxiety and I remember going with a girls' group to a military base for repelling. I went just expecting to stay at the bottom (I went for the doughnuts afterwards) this girl was crying about not wanting to do it and for some reason I did the "I'll do it if you do it" thing. I've done this before but always flaked before it was my turn or before either of us went. This time, I ended up being this first to go. I'm not scared of heights, what scared me was that while repelling I had to support my own weight and I had no confidence on me doing that (Yes we were spotted, but that was no comfort) I remember going down that wall at a snails pace because my fingers were locked and I could barely move them (my left hand is aching now with this memory.) I was crying all the way down and well afterwards. People said I'd feel better at the bottom and honestly I didn't I was pretty shaken up a good while afterwards. Later in my teen years I began doing more and more things that made me uncomfortable, drawing attention to myself, putting myself in places where people had to rely on me. Today I've fought my anxiety to the point where my thoughts will dwell my relationship and interactions but it doesn't affect my quality of living nor my social interaction themselves. Only recently did I remember that that scary repelling experience was the first time I forced myself through something that terrified me. Never was it an inspiration during my initial time of social adjustment, but in reflection it did mark a turning point in the way I faced challenges. I took awhile but I guess I did feel better when I reached the bottom. I should go again sometime now that I'm not afraid to be scared.

    I have been scared of dogs for as long as I can remember. I don't know how it started or why I feel this way. Looking at pictures of them or watching movies about them it's ok but in real life this fear is frustrating because unlike other fears ( fear of heights, fear of spiders etc. ) many people love dogs and don't understand why I can't be near one without running and just tell me things like "Don't worry, it won't bite" and I'm like "How can you possibly be sure of that? Can you like read his mind or smth?" Then if I go visit someone who has a dog, I have to ask them to like keep it out of the room. If I see a dog on the street no matter the size or the breed I do my best to avoid it (cross the street, change my path ). What's worse is that there are many people in my town who walk their dogs on the street without a leash or with a really long one that keeps stretching. Moreover there are many big stray dogs in my town almost every neighbourhood has about 10 stray dogs maybe more and some of them really are dangerous. Some even live in packs and start barking when someone walks by. I can't even ride my bike because I heard they are more likely to attack when they see a bike. Many people told me that dogs can sense fear and if I run they will come after me but I can't help it. I've been chased by dogs many times. Sometimes I am embarrassed that I have this fear because people laugh when seing me scared out of my mind and runnung from a cute puppy. I don't know what to do. Everytime I tried to get over my fear I failed.😔 I love cats though. 😂

I have multiple disabilities, injuries and illnesses and cannot afford to be injured again. Dogs know I have things wrong, and guess how they tell you? They bite! They are nature's alarm-system: someone's coming or something's wrong. You can help by keeping your dog on a lead at all times. Please🙂

    My phobia of dogs started when I was a sophomore in highschool. One day, I wanted to go to the park and I was heading past my neighbor's yard. Next thing I know, his four dogs start growling and barking and running towards me. I was just thinking to myself that they wouldn't bite me, but I was wrong. I accidentally slipped at one point and the dogs surrounded me. They were biting at me, and I started kicking them in the face. This happened for about fifteen frightening minutes. By the time someone saved me, I was covered in bite marks, my face was filled with tears, and I couldn't stop shaking. My landlord said this wasn't the first time those dogs have hurt people so he made the owner put the dog down. I felt relief for awhile, then those neighbors moved out and I had new ones. They also had several dogs. Today, they all attacked me not once but twice. I was saved again, but now I feel like I can't go back outside ever again. I can't even be in the same room with a dog. If there is any way I could get help for this, I'd greatly appreciate it.

    I am also cynophobia so do my sister. I really don't like dog since my family got their first dog, No matter it small or big and I'm glad i move out of the house and my small family (i live with) don't really have dog (except my mother). I dont really know if i want to overcome this fear though. My family that have dog always say " It will not hurt you! " and i will not listen to them. I will always isolate in my own room and don't go out the room alot (before i move out)

      The reason you don’t listen is because you are taking instructions on how to feel about dogs and how to behave around them, from a younger you that must have had a bad experience and now believes you must be protected from ALL dogs as opposed to maybe 1 dog that created it. When you consider the event and that whatever it was you survived, you can slowly start to make peace with them.

    I used to be scared of dogs because as a child I was attacked by a dog (at the time it seemed big because I was small but the dog was a small yippy dog). I was able to get over this fear later on as an adolescent, thank god. But yes, fearing dogs isn't irrational. It can bite you. It can land you in the hospital. However, I'm so happy I'm not anymore because I used to feel dumb since most people love dogs & deep down I did too because many of them look so cute. Nowadays, tons of people have dogs, more public places are dog-friendly so having this fear now can really limit your quality of life when you have to avoid so many places & people. I just got a puppy (standard poodle) & I am training her to be a therapy dog. I hope she can help people with this fear, among other things.

    I myself can relate to her. I've been really scared of dogs since I was a kid. When I was young I was at a friend's place playing with their dog, and suddenly he knocked me over. I know he was just playing but at the time I thought he was actually trying to hurt me. And since then, I have been scared of like any dog I've come across, harmless or not. Some people have said not to show any fear which is kinda easier said than done and makes me even more scared of what a dog might do to me if it knows I'm scared outta my wits of it.
    And I just wanna clarify that I don't necessarily dislike dogs. I think some dogs r pretty cute. But I'm genuinely more afraid of them than anything else

    I have that cynophobia. When a dog starts barking at me, I scream so loud and everyone is confused why. When I hear barking without seeing the dog, I get in shock and I once even ALMOST fell on the ground because of it. My bestie gives me some tips to avoid dogs, but still, it doesn't really work well for me. I see a dog, I immediately start running around finding a way to avoid the dog. It's really not great to have it

    I used to have the same fear as her, I know how she feels. The reason why I had the fear was a dog in our neighbourhood used to put its nose under the garden gate and my mother tried to keep me away so I just was scared ever since, but now I am fine I have lots of friends with dogs!

    I had a fear of dogs once. Though it wasn't like a phobia, it was more of an extreme distrust/wariness of stranger's dogs (not ours of course, cuz he's an angel and I know he's never hurt me). I think it began when I was riding on my scooter in the park, when out of the blue a dalmatian just ran at me, barking. I had this fear around 2 years ago for a couple of months, under which I began watching videos on what to do when attacked by a dog. What ultimately ended my fear is when another dog wanted to attack our own. My body was ready for a fight as I had an instinct to protect. I told myself "if that dog dares to get loose and run to us I'll kick it to the next street". Thankfully nothing happened, but that's what made me lose my fear of dogs. Later on I realized, that it wasn't actually the thought of them attacking that scared me. It was the sudden barking.

    You can't just throw a diagnosis like PTSD around like that... I have post traumatic stress disorder, and it's absolutely incomparable to this lady's fear of dogs.

    • @cn5570
      @cn5570 Před 5 lety +1

      You sound ridiculous. PTSD applies to a multitude of cases. The amount of stress you experience because your past trauma is comparable to many people who fear dogs. Because of past trauma, I have jumped on top of cars, jumped on desks at work, nearly jumped off of a balcony. So yes, it's comparable and in some cases, it can be worse than yours.

    When I was a kid I pet a pregnant pit bull at my friends birthday party. This dog started stalking me the WHOLE party so I was trying to avoid it and stay close to other people and adults. When I forgot about it I was on the jumping castle alone, and I kid you not the pit bull was climbing into the jumping castle after me! LOL I am not afraid of dogs now and own 3 but I understand the fear, I was 8 yo.

    Ive grown out of this phobia (to an extent) i can pat a dog when im forced to, but when it licks me i just head out. I remember when i was sleeping over at my friends house and they had a dog. I had to use the bathroom, but i was scared of waking the dog up. I opened the door, and i heard the loudest howl ive ever heard. I ended up not using the bathroom.

    I have cynophobia even though I love dogs I am afraid of them following me or licking me or anything. It really sucks because my family is a cat family but my cousins have 2 giant dogs and one used to be small but now it it huge and energetic. When I was little, dogs would run past and I would cry and ask for my parents to carry me. I am a lot older now and try to still get rid of this phobia.
