- The Basics to Japanese Incense | Are they that Good? #homefragrance
In this video I will discuss something a little different from luxury candles. I will give you the basics on Japanese Incense and why they are incense you should be burning. Whether you are using them for meditation, religion, or purifying the space in your home, I found Japanese incense to be some of the best forms of enhancing those environments. Japanese Incense is also luxury home fragrance as the ingredients used to make them are of a higher standard compared to other types of Incense. They are known to be of the highest quality in the world. I love to keep Japanese incense in my collection along with all of my luxury candles.
Thanks for watching!

Is anyone else a fan of Japanese Incense?
So awesome, I want to start my own incense company
You should go for it!
Yessss
@@DetailedDream your waves are spinning bro sheeesh
Yes...I just found them and my wife and I have a better relationship now because we've finally found something we can agree on.( I'm kidding but also not haha) I have a sensitive nose and a lot of cheaper candles and the like give me headaches but she likes these more than anything she has tried before. I love the control we have over what scent we enjoy and when. The other great thing about these is that the scent doesn't linger forever and get old and sour smelling. The short sticks burn about 25 minutes and 10 minutes after it's done burning the scent is gone. Then, you can be done with it or switch up to a different scent without making some odd mixture of old and new.
I live in India, Incense is used in almost all the houses. Iam currently into sandalwood incense, and I feel very relaxed with the smell.
burning that one myself
Finally someone who does not claim to be a witch!
And he doesn’t have a crystal in his butt
😅
Lol
I think I’m the first Japanese person who was encouraged to get one by this video 😂
Lol 😄
Getting good quality incense (and especially Japanese incense) is well worth it. It smells nothing like head shop perfume heavy incense. It smells like nature. It smells like a garden or a warm cozy blanket. It is more subtle and inoffensive.
Well said!
Short and sweet, exactly what i needed to know with no boring filler, appreciate it!
I never liked incense. I got introduced to it from those alternative “hippie” shops and the smell was so offensive and smoky 😂 I fell in LOVE with incense when I stumbled upon Japanese Incense in a small shop in Kyoto. I was blown away at how different and meditative it smelled compared to what I thought incense was. I’ve been looking for where I can buy quality Japanese incense - thanks so much for the recommendations! ❤
I’m glad I did a search for Japanese incense holder, before I start ordering online, or going to the nearest store. Your video is very informative, detail, and not long like a movie, in short you get what you pay for, so for me it will be made in Japan. Thanks 👍👍👍👍👍
This is fantastic production quality for a channel this small. Great work!
I'm a huge fan of Japanese incense. I buy Shoyeido mostly, directly from their store in Ginza every time I'm in Tokyo. The important thing for people to know is that Japanese incense doesn't smell AT ALL like that cheap, nasty headshop 'Nag Champa'. It's an entirely different proposition with cultural reasons dictating the fragrance notes, so slightly sweet sandalwood is what you'll get as opposed to dirty patchouli overkill. They are sublime and the smaller sticks with a 15 minute burn time are perfect and make terrific gifts. I forget the name of it, but my favourite is the one is the dark red one followed by the purple labelled one. You have such great taste, I'm glad I accidentally found your channel. :)
The perfect description of Japanese incense! :)
How dare you shame nag champa, it’s lovely
Hey, my baby likes it 😠
I’m going to review these myself! You’re so thorough and informative with your reviews, keep ‘em coming! Love it!🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Thank you man!!! :) :)
Mane I’m glad I found this channel! Your candle recommendations were spot on. And I love incense so I gotta check this out.
Alright, you sold me! Thanks for the recommendations!! Subscribed for future videos! Love your recommendations :]
Thanks for posting. Shoyeido is my favorite incense too.
Thank you, I just ordered. I can’t wait to try them.♥️
I’m in love with these. So light and earthy.
Thank you for posting this informative video.
I've had Japanese incense on my "home fragrance wishlist" for quite some time now but never got around to buying any. I need to change that soon as I love the smell of incense.
Thanks!! You will most definitely enjoy Japanese incense!
Shoyeido is a great brand. I am a fan of their 'moss garden' fragrance, but that one does contain patchouli.
Thanks for the video. It can be difficult to research all this stuff, so this saved me hours, haha.
This was so lovely. All I ever knew was the ones from gas stations. This was very interesting and informative. Thanks for sharing 💕
Thanks!!! and those gas station incense are dangerous lol.
Really informative video! Hope you continue an incense series in the future!
I love incense, since I were a youngin…. Love the info!
Keep’em coming! 👏🏽❤️
I know you will love these then! lol :)
I found your video as I just got into Japanese incense. I could listen to you all day
Great information I learn a lot today. Keep them coming
Thank you very much!!!
trying to change my lifestyle a little. thanks for the help. nice glasses too.
Glad I can let help! Let me know if there is anything specific you would like to know. and Thanks! I am currently looking for new specs so maybe I can make a video on what I find :)
Excellent video. Very informative.
Just FYI. Aloeswood is just another name for agarwood (or oud, oodh, oudh, ood)--which when infected with a specific fungus, produces resin which impregnates the wood. Kyara is a Japanese grade of oud (the highest actually)--it is very expensive as it is now sadly very rarely found in nature due to overuse and centuries of unsustainable tree felling.
I love your background decor! 😍
Very informative..I’ve always enjoyed incense since I’m a 70’s child I’ve never tried those looking forward to it
Thank you very much! You will definitely enjoy them!
I have been watching your videos for a while now and damn you have excellent points and recommendations! Definitely a sub from me! Now with incense i have been curious why there are some for 3-5$ but i was suspicious, and also some ranging 30$, buying Japanese now not only saved me a buck by ordering high quality ones but i also got a holder like you have, thanks brooklyn neighbor 😉
I'm finally starting to dabble in more good incense myself after getting access to Japanese incense online. It's true, nothing else compares to it. My first was also, Kyo-nishiki. I've yet to try the Sakura blossoms one by the same brand, which apparently is also popular with Kyo-nishiki and Nokiba.
My crowning one so far is a recent Baiedo purchase, the Tokusen version of their Kobunboku incense. Fair warning that it's not the best beginner incense like Shoyeido's are, not unless you love strong, wooded scents. Unlit, Tokusen is almost off-putting, roots and soil and camphor as if it was dug straight from the forests. But simultaneously spicy and medicinal from Chinese-style spices (if you know five-spice or Tiger Balm, you know this smell too). When burning, it's a warm sweet wood that lingers and lingers. It's really special, and makes sense why it can be used in sacred applications too.
This has convinced me to try other Baiedo incenses someday, while I get through this large box. Still learning how to burn properly too, as I've learned over the years, even delicate Japanese incense is not meant for a small room. Not unless I'm doing it wrong. 🙃 It should be at least the size of a living room, or burn in another area and let the fragrance waft to you.
Thanks for sharing that website. They have some good choices on Amazon too.
Thank for the knowledge
I am just now getting into Japanese incense. This video was perfect. I picked up tea leaves and palo santo by Shoyeido. I will have to try the others you mentioned. I heard white cloud was good as well.
I have to try tea leaves. Sounds phenomenal!
Love your vibe. Subscribing!
Thanks for the education. I didn't know there were different grades of incense, especially ones that cost upwards of $2k. I wouldn't spend that much even if I was a billionaire, but I guess some people don't care about money.
I am sensitive to smells, not a fan usually, but I remember enjoying cheap incense when I was a kid, from the local head shops. I used to burn it, listening to Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, etc, in my room filled with blacklight posters back in the 70s. Those were the days. I'm intrigued to try some of this more refined/subtle Japanese style incense now.
I can’t remember the kind of incense my great aunt used in the 1970s, but it smelled so good and nothing like the “hippie” incense I have seen in stores like waslmart. The type my great aunt burned looked almost like paper or a coil shape. (I was very young and my memory is fuzzy)
Nice video and info. Thanks ;)
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Your pronunciation is PERFECT ❣️
Arigato for sharing😍😍😍
Thank you! 😃
I purchased both 'Autumn Leaves' and 'Moss Garden' after watching your video, and I love them both. I'd recommend trying 'Golden Pavilion' as well; it smells divine!
Therapeutic! You explained it perfectly❤
I am not a fan of patchouli, vanilla, geranium, lemongrass or sage.
Sage and lavender make me nauseous and give me a headache. Although they are actually therapeutic and said to relieve headaches and nausea.
However, oddly enough some of my favorite blends have small traces of some of these notes.
Mahogany and teakwood sometimes has sage or lavender and I love mahogany and teakwood.
Vanilla is a beautiful scent in its true form but synthetic does not bring me joy. But I enjoy vanilla absolute mixed within lemon, orange, rose etc.
I love florals, citrus and woods.
Oud, leather, Tabacco leaf, bourbon, moss, woods, musk, cognac, tonka and a few others I am forgetting.
I adore feminine fragrances but in my home I also love masculine home fragrances as well.
As always your videos bring me such joy.
Hmm im usually not the one to mention this nor i have an idea how i found myself looking up insences BUT you just made me watch and pay attention. Very well made video, did not feel like i want to click out. Good job ! Nice presentation
Love incense. Great video 👌🏾
Thank you very much!!
Just discovered your channel a few days ago. Love it so much, probably not good for my candle addiction though:) I love incense too and I use Astier de Villatte, a French brand that also do lovely candles. All very unique and I believe their incense is made in Japan. I think you should try them, you will love them I'm sure!
Thank you very much!! I will definitely give Astier de Villatte a try!
Same. I like their incense. Long lasting.
Great Video man! Mind telling me which incense burner is in use in the background? I clicked on the incense holder list and saw the "bamboo leaf holder" but if you could confirm that would be great! Keep these videos coming and wishing you the best!
Thank you!!
For the last couple of months I have been seriously considering buying one of those Chinese incense burning kits all due to those ASMR videos!!
Seems like I have to look for some Japanese incense powder!!
Thank you for such great video. I tried the classic size Ernest cire trudon candle and I love it. Could you please explain the difference between a big candle and a small candle? Do you get your money worth more for buying a bigger candle? Thanks a lot!
Thanks!! Ernesto is one of my faves! Usually, the larger sized candles are great for large spaces, like for filling up an entire home, or if you will be burning outside, like on a terrace for example. The small sizes are great for small spaces like a small apartment or if you will be keeping it in one room of a house.
Japanese incense are the best. I'm from Myanmar and Ive tried Myanmar, Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese...... out of all Japanese incesne tops them. Also more expensive
Detailed Dream Nice bro I love chinese & japanese cultures!, Can you please do your top 5 incense sticks next time
Lit an incense I bought from the souvenir shop at the top of Osakajo, I was surprised to be able to sleep without my medication lol. I was scared I wouldn’t be able to breathe because my room isn’t well ventilated, but it’s very pleasant.
👌🏾 Informative video, I personally burn Dragons Blood by a company called Nitiraj from India, smells amazing especially when burning with aphrodisiac oil in a tea light burner.
But I will definitely give the Japanese incense a try, I’m sure they’re amazing
Thanks!! Ive been meaning to try Dragons Blood. Ive been hearing great things about it. I will definitely be giving it a try!
I have more more tons of incense from somali originally and good quality any way who interested
Thanks bud, nice video. It's very informative, I am into the indian incense, but I really want to switch to the Japanese ones. Problem is my country doesn't have them, I have to buy bulks from amazon or sth lol. Keep it up mate!
Thank you very much! I actually have a video on Indian incense coming soon. Amazon is definitely a go to.
Hello I am a BIG incense fan- I always wondered is incense in general harmful to your health and are the more expensive brands more health friendly???
I have to try every one!!
You will love them!!!❤️❤️
Thank you, sir. Agree that incense is fascinating. Japanese stuff I find tends to be better than the Indian stuff! (Just higher quality)
Could you please review a variety of Le Labo Candles? I really enjoy your videos.
I just got into incense and the Shoyeido I ordered got stuck in my wooden holder making it useless 😭no one told me. Kinda killed my meditation session. I don't want to deal with white ash holders to hold incense up vertically either, and prefer the strong scents of Indian incense personally.
6:26 lol, I just bought incense for the first time last week and it was from Walmart. I saw one golden holder in the store, so I took that, figured out what it was, and then realized I also needed incense sticks, so I got a pack. :p
Although I've used Japanese incense for a while, I only recently wondered what its ingredients are. I use Seikudo brand. I haven't been able to find an ingredients list. Any advice? Many thanks.
Bro your channel is bomb!
Every incense stick or cone I've tried has been yuck! I guess I've been getting the cheap stuff . I have to get through quite a few candles before I buy any more home fragrance . I'll definitely keep this in mind . Thank you for the info .
Do you know what brand of incense you've been burning? It may be the quality or it just may be incense in general. I much prefer candles over incense any day due to the smoke, but when I do burn incense, im reaching for japanese brands.
@@DetailedDream My husband bought a few boxes over the years . I didn't pay attention to the brand . I'll keep the Japanese brand in mind . Thank you :)
I love incense...and I love watching a cutie talk about incense too
Hello, what is your opinion on the brand "Morning star" from NipponKodo?
I have bought some Chinese and Japanese incense and i found that Chinese incense are too pungent for direct burning and better when using indirect heating, Japanese ones are too weak for indirect heating but are perfect for direct burning
Hey R, can you recommend a solid incense stick holder?
This is great stuff man, I lived in Tokyo for a decade and make perfumes for a living. I'd love to team up... yours, Matthew
How about Muji?? I just love Muji Cedarwood Incense... ❤️❤️
Instant subscribe
Thanks!
No sure if we can find find those incenses in the UK..Btw thank for great reviews..
I love this video. You have done Japanese incenses proud. Just one note- agarwood and aloeswood are two words for the same wood. It is also called oud!
Thank you very much! and Thanks for the clarification on the wood types! :)
Nag Champa is great
You should try it
I tried the walmart version, then I looked what the best nag champa brand is and Golokai is one of the best, bought me a 15 stick set, and I would like to find one in that quality with no bamboo stick.
Great video. How often do you replace the white ash? I’m assuming the ash from the incense falls in the white ash. Do you then just leave it and then pack it down next time you want to use it ?
the white rice ash is actually more useful for ancestor ceremonies. you may notice in front of buddhist temples, joss (coreless incense sticks) are placed directly upright into open vessels holding years of pure, fallen ash...
Thanks for sharing Janpanese incense for everyone. As a Chinese, I do have burning incense routine, usually Chinese incense and Japanese incense.
But I have a question which I am quite confused about what is the different between agarwood and aloeswood? I mean in the Chinese culture, there are basically the same thing.
你好,Agarwood, aloeswood, oodwood etc. Are the same, all means 沉香。
合掌🙏
@@dimitritariot997 Thanks man!
Can you link your incense stick holders please
Thinking of getting a Mayan incense have you tried them?
Why doesn't the incense burn all the way through when using a incense holder? is it because the incense isn't directed straight up? why does it with japanese holder with the ash? Does the ash balance the burn? Im just now getting into japanese incense and going to purchase some in near future with a cool looking holder
I liked the kōro thing, but I didn't find any way to buy one. Where would you recommend me to go to try and find one?
Definitely look into www.japanincense.com/incenseholders.html its where I purchase my incense sticks and holders from.
I've been looking for glasses *exactly* like yours (shape, size, color and everything) and they are never available wherever I go. And I've lived in Colorado and California!
Where do you get those shirts from??
Can you review different kinds of incense holders?
Woooooo looking good, bro. Forget the incense, I want to hear the story behind those lethal weapons you're packing under the sleeves.
Hi , lm detoxing my body , live in a apt building with alot of fire alarms...
Do you know of a insense l can burn or any other invention that will leave my space smelling good thxs
Loose resin is really nice too but a bit smoky, nothing really beats a large tear of frankincense on a hot coal.
Does anyone know if there are health risks to burning incense?
日本より。堀川(ほりかわ)はマジでおすすめです。また、クンバ(KUUMBA)という日本のincenseBrandがあります。それもとてもおすすめです😊
Also, What are your thoughts on oil burners ?
I am a big fan of essential oil and wax melt burners! for one, essential oils are very therapeutic and are available pretty much anywhere lol. For my wax melts I usually get the Cameos from Cire trudon. I haven't talked much about oil burners on the channel. I could squeeze this on my schedule for a video.
❤
Bro, where did you get your t-shirt in this video?
Its actually from Zara
How do you have so high production value with like 500 views? Thanks tho bro!
Im a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to making my videos lol.
How to order...😊
What jumper is that por favor?
Zara
Is Japanese incense safe for humans and pets? I’ve been seeing that incense can be unhealthy but don’t know if that applies to Japanese incense
It's not safe but it's considered safer as they mostly use natural ingredients
I use it to get rid of my neighbours cooking stank that runs thru the walls.
Could you do more videos on incense please?
I actually have a video coming soon on Indian incense.
@@DetailedDream Alright cool seems interesting
*📓*
I think Patchouli is better in Oil form
You too?
Not feeling patchouli from any other form, but oil with a candle under it
Most of this sticks were used in Asia mainly in east Asia and india
Just to point out, aloeswood is the same as agarwood. Just different names for it.
How do you feel about incense cones?
