    Another good video. Can you tell more about your move to Hawaii. How is the accessibility and accessible housing?

    • @coreyaustin14
      @coreyaustin14  Před 2 lety +1

      Accessible in the sense that it has to comply with ADA laws, but it is an island and space is limited. I live in town but other areas aren’t as developed or covered with concrete (which I think is good). Accessible housing is nonexistent. With that all being said, we make it work and you can’t beat the people, food or weather.

      It’ll just be more of the same crazy things you guys come upon lol. Never a boring day. That is for sure. I think for one, accessibility is something that affects everything. Where are we going to park, which route is the best, should I get out of the car? And for my girlfriend, how much should she help, how much independence should I give him, Even though he’s clearly struggling? Lol. Just some initial thoughts off the top of my head! Mahalo for watching!

    Corey, I think those saying, 'I thought quads who can't move at all' are having problems understanding complete vs incomplete. I was watching a video one day and this guy described complete as a 'banana is cut in half'; nerve signals (which normally travel to the brain to say to feel or move or even go to the bathroom) can no longer communicate with the brain because hey are unable to get to the brain; versus a banana that is smooshed. Nerve signals can still manage to get passed the injury...although they can be jumbled (hence spasms).

    My beliefs...'interabled' ONLY brings attention to people being different in one way or another. Everyone needs to be considered as one. It is a new word and defeats the purpose of just be one. Who needs to be separated?

    • @coreyaustin14
      @coreyaustin14  Před 2 lety +1

      You are 100% correct. It does put a label on it and in a way as result separates. Personally I do not feel like I am dehumanized with that word, but it is true that there are some unique parts of a relationship when only one is able-bodied. Good point though. I just used it for convenience. As always, thank you for watching!

      @@coreyaustin14 Please realize, I wasn't criticizing in any way shape or form. People should all be one...we don't need labels...that's how we keep each other segragated...segragation is a BAD thing. My fiance once told me 'you are your own historian'...no one would have thought you were anything but Hawaiian...but you are the one who said 'interabled relationship'. You're a person...leave it at that...who cares about if you are in a wheelchair and she's walking? It's another label and I'm sure people who don't understand give you enough grief anyway. You are a teacher and someone kids will look up to. That's all you need. Some of my most fond memories are of teachers.
