  • Corvina is a varietal mostly known for growing in the northeastern Italian DOC region of Valpolicella in the Veneto. The wines tend to be dry with refreshing acidity, low tannins, and red fruit flavors. This wine can appeal to many who enjoy Pinot Noir, Gamay (Beaujolais) and Barbera. There are many different styles of wine made with Corvina in Valpolicella including Ripasso, Recieto Della Valpolicella and Amarone Della Valpolicella.
One of the challenges of selecting and purchasing Italian wines is understanding all the different terms used on the foreign labels! In the Tip of the Week, learn the significance of the terms Classico, Riserva, and Superiore.
