  • Tara Brach - Impermanence: Awakening Through Insecurity (Part 1) 05/13/2015
    From the view of the separate self, this existence is inherently uncertain, and we are profoundly vulnerable. Our habitual reaction to insecurity fuels separation, and limits our capacity to live and love fully. These two talks explore the blessings of wisdom, love and freedom that naturally arise as, instead of resisting, we learn to open directly to the insecurity of impermanence.

    A psychospiritualist I see mentioned the word impermanence the other day. Releasing fear and finding true peace is to realize that everything is impermanent. The word struck me and wouldn't let go. I needed to investigate this more. I had never heard this word before. In this context. I watched Ram Dass tonight with his stroke talk about it and then your video. You have explained in a way that helps me to begin to feel it, and him, to openly see it. I'm an enneagram 6. Releasing fear is my life's work. I am 64. It's healing time. ❤️ Each night I take my dog out before bed, I have this fear of being eaten by a bear. Now, before I sound looney, I'm in NC. We have bears. We live on their land. There ARE bears in my complex. I've never seen one here in real life up close but I know they are here. There was one behind the building behind me 2 nights ago. I feel so vulnerable out alone, facing the possibility of being attacked by a bear. I shake and get angry with my dog for taking too long and listen for the slightest sound and my angst is the PTSD awakened. It's never happened. In 8 years of taking out a dog at night, I've never been eaten by a bear yet each night, the fear controls me. Or is the problem that I try to control the bear? The one that is not there. Could be there but my experience says he is not. Not right now. I don't need to control something that is not real except in my mind. In fact, I can't. So I will walk my little Lucy right now, at nearly 2 am, with appropriate caution, (I carry a whistle.) I can not control nature but I can control my fear of it and tonight I also realize history is on my side. Merci and Namaste.

    What I don't get is that if giving up control and letting go/be is the answer, then why on Earth have we evolved to do the exact opposite? There must be a reason why we don't do any of these things naturally snd have to philosophize and work so hard to do it. I would truly like to believe this works/is on our best interests but I fear it us not as otherwise we would naturally have evolved to do it. I would be so interested if anyone can answer this.

    What is insecurity? Jealousy is not insecurity. If anyone lets hubs do whatever he pleases, then thats blinding yourself. Its natural for him to drool over someone else. Sure. Having se* w/ another partner is natura

    It's my job to protect myself. I can't do that by welcoming everything. Especially things that are dangerous to my wellbeing. Why can't these hippies realise there are some very unsavoury characters in this world?

    • @equteachme
      @equteachme Před 7 lety +3

      She is not saying you have to like everything that is coming to you, or that there is good in it, just see it.

    • @Hassanthehorse
      @Hassanthehorse Před 6 lety +6

      I can't speak for her, but I don't think she's telling you to let go of setting healthy boundaries, protecting yourself, or being able to say no to predatory behavior. You can and should do all of that because, like you said, it is necessary in order to survive. What I think she means by welcoming everything is being able to at the very least accept all of the inevitable changes life brings (aging, impermanence, loss, distress, etc.), because being in resistance to these things will make said changes more difficult to confront, or it'll lead to a state of emotional reactivity that doesn't necessarily have to be there. Being able to resist toxic behavior only shows a strength of character, and I honestly don't interpret what she's saying as her trying to convey the message that you need to/should be a doormat. Calling her a hippie is pretty condescending, especially when she's not trying to tell you to be naive, selfless, and blindly trust everyone and everything.

      Ah, but are the dangers real, today, in your life? Or are the fears of the dangers what is real. It's.letting go of the fear of all the possible changes I think. I'm listening and learning like you. Stay open. Yes, there are unsavory characters in this world. But if we spend our lives fearing "them" (them out there somewhere like a child and a bogeyman) we miss today. We miss right now. I believe opening to right now, where you are safe, is the message. I am sure she is not saying you should put yourself in harm's way to test anything. Allow yourself to feel what it might feel like to feel safe. It's not easy for us who have lived in fear. Of faceless bogeymen our whole lives. And I agree, as an old semi-hippie of which I am proud, it's hard to see you negate her teachings with a word you connote as negative. Why do you fear HER? Change is hard. She's not saying "just feel safe" like it will happen tomorrow. In fact, she specifically says it won't. Relisten to the indigo story. Rest with it. Watch it again. And again. Just listen. Waking up is hard work. And the planet needs to.
