Here's another "news tip": having emulators approved by a corporation to appear on its walled garden ISN'T a huge win. A huge win would be to have the AppStore or IOS cracked open to be able to install any emulator without having to ask permission to daddy Apple.

PS5 sells consoles and games because they care about being the best console gaming company, and emulation benefits them because people get nostalgic about their brand and buy more PlayStation products.
Nintendo’s business model is to repackage Mario and Zelda and their other exclusive IPs to moms and children over and over and over again so they are extremely protective over their IP because it’s all they got. They know their consoles are 12 years behind in tech so they can’t get sales by selling impressive modern games, and can’t get all 3rd party games, but they only have their kids IP.
If kids can play their IP for free they lose half their business. They also love selling you the NES Super Mario Bros over and over and over and over again.
That’s why Nintendo is trolling emulation. Mario may look cute but Nintendo’s soul is black as night.

Remember the console wars in the 90’s?
Nintendo quit competing in the console wars already when the N64 came out because they stopped caring about having the best hardware and mostly just focused being the choice console for families.
So they quit the console war business and started their own IP war business, because for Nintendo to survive and keep selling the same Mario games over and over again it needs to protect it’s IP.
So instead of Nintendo being at war against Sega, they are at war against gaming fans, so they can keep owning their niche in the gaming world.

This hasn’t stopped them from going after other emulation ROM-hosting sites in the past, unfortunately. Distributing ROMs is on a far worse legal position than making an emulator.
Nintendo also safeguards the ability to compel fans to depend solely on their own pipelines for their retro games very heavily, so them not selling a game NOW doesn’t preclude them from selling it in the future, and in their view the only way they can maintain that dominant position is by stamping out emulation (the only reasonable alternative for fans to use).

Here is my two pennies on the Vimms DMCA...
So after going through the list and finding almost every game that was hit. One of em is a strange one LoZ TP being one but only the Wii version and not the Gamecube one.
I think this is Nintendo gearing up for a new Switch Online platform, being the Wii. All games that was hit are part of the Switch Online eco system.
NES, SNES, N64, GBA, GBC, so I think the Wii and some DS games will be heading over to the service. Someone that is known for Nintendo leaks was also reported saying something about this too.
It is a very big list with some heavy hitters among the list so if true, while bad for game preservation it is good for Nintendo users to play some of these again.

Love these anti-consumer practices making pirates out of people who originally supported these particular devs. Keep supporting indie developers, let's face it, most of the best modern games are by Indie developers anyway.

SKG went about it the wrong way.
The argument ought to be for the allowing of DRM-FREE options of all games.
This ensures consumers will have a chance to own a game offline after a game is no longer available digitally on a store and/or issues with licenses cannot be resolved.
It would also shift gaming away from "live" services as live service games do not satisfy DRM-free or it will force corporate publishers to focus their resources to ensure all their games are playable offline as well instead of having to make two versions online only and offline.
DRM-free would also be applied able with movies and become an even bigger argument for being consumer friendly as well as media preservation.

even besides the vimm news (it's mostly been confirmed a troll by them taking down Drawn to Life, a game not published by nintendo and only caught because of it having mario in the name), ios users are finally getting the best of the best of emulators and denuvo being removed is always a small but important victory. it's a good news day overall!
even with the shakiness of online service game news, im glad there's a site for checking if it requires online play before purchase

I would love to support the stop killing games camping but unfortunately I haven't bought the game and apparently can't do much unless I'm personally affected.
I would 100% contact the government if there was a clear way of doing so that did not involve having to pull up receipts from purchase of the game.

It's up to the courts to interpret UK law, not the Government. The government just legislates, otherwise they could change the meaning of laws at their whim and nobody would know where they stand.

in my honest opinion. the emulators being allowed is not a good enough tradeoff to lose vimms, vimm has been around for years offering uncapped download speeds no ads and no popups which is actually unheard of when it comes to downloading roms or really anything online anymore

This is supposedly the worl of trolls, coz only a select few of the games are gone. Notably anything that contains the word "mario" even a non mario game got taken down coz it has the word "marionette". Pokemon too, they're still up most of them. Not to mention GC is still up and completely untouched
Also we really shouldn't be brining more attention to these sites coz then they'll probably ACTUALLY get taken down

The phone is terrible can't even handle wii it's so far behind the s23 it's disgusting. And now apple is getting emulators anyway. I'm so gutted I didn't upgrade to a new iphone 😭

If they want to be able to remove games like the Crew and many others.. before you even purchase online or in a store there should be one page of terms of service that tells you exactly that.
If this wasn't forced let's say even digitally where it says we may take this game down at any time and make it unplayable and you will never get your money back.
That would hurt sales so I hope they keep on fighting cuz we I hope they keep on fighting because we need something to protect the consumers as it is we're getting half-baked shipped games ... For most releases sure we have some gems here and there.
We're paying good money do people remember before patches and updates games had to be completed.
Now we're rewarding companies when they come out with somewhat fully working games we give them kudos credit and so much love for coming out with a game the way it was supposed to be.
Very happy for Apple consumers finally they can use their device for some really good emulation!
Hopefully this brings in tons more viewers to this channel and also the retro scene itself when people start realizing the good games the games that were fun they don't just bring back good memories they are great games and that's why we're here!

i can’t imagine this much trolling going on for a company that doesn’t care about preservation (hardware/software), is set in their old fashion ways, and seems to do the bare minimum while the average person takes it and runs. what’s even the reason for it? Nintendo already puts themselves in a weird spotlight as it is with how they continue to lack and do the bare minimum, but why are people thinking they are trying to help them with this DMCA nonsense for games that don’t even exists on shelves anymore?
