Hi guys, this episode was supposed to come out in the last week of 2022, but I have had some personal issues at home which I have been dealing with and it's made working on these a bit difficult. Still, we have some cracking stuff coming up over the next few weeks and there will be another new episode this weekend. Happy belated New Year to you all!
If you look at the list of those who died in the Calumet Massacre, most of their ages are in single digits. It breaks your soul. I'm convinced the doors were held shut, if you look at pictures of the place before they tore it down, those doors swung open. There's a great documentary called "1913 massacre" that talks about it and the famous Woody Guthrie song with the same name. Highly recommend if you want to learn more. As a Michigander, I was horrified to only learn of this important moment in labor history in my twenties, should be taught in every class in Michigan. If they can teach us about the Triangle Waist Factory fire, they can teach us about this.
It also bears noting that suicides often spike around the holidays, usually among lonely and isolated persons. Not saying that is what happened in any of these cases, but it's a thing that also deserves our awareness and compassion. Visiting someone at the holidays who is otherwise pretty detached or alone can literally save a life.
There aren't enough good people in this world who care. Loneliness is a curse that afflicts so many of us that we often wonder what the point of living is if nobody wants you or cares about you, or sees you as just a tool to be used and put away.
@@Amfortas There is nothing wrong with being an atheist or a secularist, just like there is nothing wrong with being religious. If you think, now that there is no religion I can stop caring about people, what does that say about your religion or your beliefs.
Don't worry about us, we will still be here when you are ready. Do what you must to resolve any personal/family problems we can wait. Good content is well worth the wait. All the best hope you reach a resolution 👍
Corporate executives using extreme violence to subdue their unified employees during the latter half of the 19th century and into the early 20th century was all too common practice, so I have no doubts that this was the situation pertaining to the first story which had included the holiday massacre. Also got to say that there is no doubt that dangerous criminals are horrific as it is, however, dangerous criminals disguised as "law enforcement" are much worse.
Oh man I just came out from the cold to a warm house I got my favorite snacks and chill axing on the couch and then I see a new episode on Bedtime. It's the little things in life.
I can't wait to see what Monsters, creatures, ghost, and crimes come out for the year of 2023! Keep up the good work on both this and the Warstrories channel!
I'm terribly sorry for your loss. My father passed away on December 23 2022, so next Christmas will be my first one without him, and it will bring back some sad memories as well. Remember the happiness your daughter brought you my friend. If you believe in an afterlife, you will see her again one day. If you don't believe, then know that she lives on deep inside of you until the day you die.
That time frame would encompass 3 1/2 months of the year. That's a fairly significant percentage of the year. Nevertheless, a lot of deaths seem to occur around the holidays.
Always cheers me up when I get an unexpected bedtime stories notification 😁 Hope things have improved at home mate, we're here whenever you are 👍🏻 Happy belated New Year too!
This reminds me of an incident that took place in the year 1902 in the city of Birmingham, Alabama. Booker T Washington was about to give a speech at the Shiloh Baptist Church. When a cry of fire rang out and there was a panic and in a stampede it resulted in the death of over 100 people. And was there a fire, nope. Two people got into a fight outside of the church and in all the commotion somebody thought they heard the word fire. A perfect example as to why you're not allowed to yell fire in a crowded place.
While it is dangerous, and foolish, to yell "fire" in a crowded place, there is no prohibition against it. The Supreme Court decision in which that statement was made was overturned years ago.
Does anybody remember that copper craze of like 2007/2008? And people were doing dangerous and sometimes fatal things trying to get copper. Like this person in my home town to try to get copper out of high tension power lines. And they found him glowing on the side of the road.
I have chunks of native copper from where they are talking about. Our cabin is there and my mother lives there. I do remember that. I was laughing. All I had to do was take a metal detector to find some.
Someone once stole copper from machinery that wound up shutting down all power in my hometown for a good few hours. Every building and street was pitch-black
It seems like Nome is a place we should hear more about, ever since my mom's luggage went there without her I've been curious about the mysterious happenings there. Thanks for including a story about it!
I'm wondering why the Canadian Royal Mounted Police would conduct a death investigation that occurred in Nome, Alaska. Especially considering that Nome is located on the extreme western edge of Alaska at the Bering Sea, which is nowhere near the Canadian border. That part of the story doesn't make sense.
There was an newspaper article about that place that the police were the problem and there an investigation about them an AP journalist exposed them this was on a news feed I had a few years ago. But it was an arrest of a police officer, but it didn't make the national headlines as usual. This was in Nome Alaska.

Regarding the heartbreaking story of the Finnish girl Ellie, I believe that the other girl -her walking companion - might be involved. They might have had a fight about the boy whom she danced with the previous night. The crime might have been one of jealousy and planned all along.
There is some new-ish evidence and a testimony of a (then) 13yo boy, who saw a local young man, a son of a police officer, cleaning up blood in a nearby building stairway.. and local rumors have talked about him committing it, ever since it happened..
I believe it's actually Elli, not Ellie, I'm Finnish and Elli was a common girls name back then. I have never met any finnish woman with name Ellie, it's always Elli, especially back in the 50/70's.
Am I the only one that noticed that he said the royal mounted was police of Canada were sent to investigate a crime in Nome, Alaska? I went back and listened and didn’t catch where it said the crime was being in Canada.
It's always a blessing to see another upload from this channel, thank you for the hard work dedicated to these great stories. Keep the michigan stories coming!
After listening to Richard While so masterfully narrate this episode, it's hard to believe BS once thought of paying somebody else uneccesarily to narrate these episodes.
At the beginning of the last story, we talk about the amount of unexplained or unsolved deaths amongst native or minor ethnic groups across North America. We then cite Nome, where many people, particularly in small ethnics groups disappear, as an example of this, before going into the story of Tabitha Kalluck. We are well aware they're two completely different places.

In the first story, I think the killer was the girl she was walking home with. They argued, the girl was jealous about the boy she danced with, or she was angry about something else. Either way she had motive and opportunity. She could easily move the body, especially over snow, and then run off leaving no one see anything.
