When you said you have the feeling about this song like: "Lets write a metal lyrics and make it sound upbeat and fun" - Thats mostly what Ghost is about. So you nailed it perfectly at this point :D

Great take - Some people call them Scooby Doo chase music or “ABBA Metal” (they hail from Sweden after all). To me they write excellent, catchy hard rock/metal based on 70’s/80’s that really know one else does well anymore. Blue Oyster Cult is another influence.

yeah.. just listen to their earlier albums, i'm sure you'll find all those genres enumerated in there..
The man (Tobias Forge ,the frontman) has a vision, changing the styles from album to album in some sort of chronological order. It's like world evolving from slums to empires. From the raw, grim sound of "Opus Eponymous" album, to the shiny, polished of the latest, "Impera". it's literally a time machine. You can't grasp it until you see the whole picture. That's why many are somehow puzzled by what they're seeing, versus what they're hearing.. rushing into conclusions... and dissing
..listening to their latest album without listening the earlier albums, is like watching only the last season of a show that you never watched from the start..

It's not an insult to compare them to Weird Al considering there is a similarity in the way Tobias structures the lore & humor. He just utilizes the Catholic church as a way to subvert expectations while propping up the message of a "devil worship" that is essentially a gag while also talking about serious subjects. The point is to not be what you think it's going to be and doing it in a humorous way while pushing out critical lyrics. But the band has evolved with their lore. This version of the singer is a more of a pop friendly cat. Earlier versions were more into doom metal. Mummy Dust is sort of death metal like song if it was written by Type O Negative or something like that. And this song's biggest inspiration is probably ABBA.
Edit: As for the album, Impera, the first song, after the intro, is more Rush-like. The song Watcher in the Sky is like Ratt or something like that. Twenties sounds like Metallica's Through the Never. And then there are really introspective songs like Darkness at the Heart of My Love that could fit right in with some 80s pop rock. It's a crazy diverse band and every album brings something different. Also, Tobias was once in the death metal band Repugnant where he was the singer & rhythm guitarist.

This is the best description of Ghost i ever read! I feel like it just describes perfectly the vibes and the intention of the band🖤

You think he’s joking about being a satanist? If you do, I think there’s some lyrics and themes that are crucial to their albums that you’re missing then….

    • @vycariously321
      @vycariously321 Před rokem

@@singingfan LOL you obviously don't follow Ghost or know much about them. Papa and the Nameless Ghouls are Satanists. Tobias is not, he is just an extremely intelligent and talented individual that is very against organized religion's way of making their followers feel worthless and needing to repent for living their lives even if they're good people. Yes, the Satanism is there in their songs, but if you follow everything else from Ghost you will see the humor in it all (unless you're extremely obtuse).

Tobias likes to change the albums up every time due to changing out the character of the front man and creating a whole new vibe and feel to said character, I was so confused when I started listening to them thinking they’d be heavier because of the look, but they’ve become one of my all time favorite bands now.

I realized that you guys listen to rock a lot. Kpop has this girl group named dreamcatcher. It’s a Kpop group that has a lot of rock elements to it. I love them, I think they have some of the best underrated music and they are shadowed by the more mainstream artists. They have a bunch of songs you should listen too. You should definitely react to scream, boca, and because.

Hi! I just found you guys, and I am SO happy! BTS is my absolute favorite band and I'm 90% hyper-fixated on them at the moment. But, Ghost is my other favorite band that I was hyper-fixated on up until I got into BTS a few months ago. (he-he) Also, my youngest child is currently obsessed with Ghost and Ramstein. It is a snow-day at school, today (Wisconsin), so we've been watching your video's all morning. (side note: Our other obsession is Volbeat. Awesome band from Denmark)
You mentioned reggaetón when you were reviewing BTS's "Blood Sweat and Tears". I don't remember if you said you like it or not, but if you Do: You should check out BTS, Jimin's "Filter" (and, possibly BTS's "Airplane, Pt. 2"? or maybe it's "Dionysus"?. Sorry! I'm blanking at the moment.). In any case they are all amazing songs!
Ghost has a really cool reggaetón song, too! "Twenties"! It doesn't have a music video, per se', but it's definitely worth checking out. Some people don't like the song very much. I, personally, LOVE it! ("Spillways", to me, is the least exciting song on the album. Just personal taste.)
Ghost songs that I would recommend for beginner Ghost listeners/watchers are "Square Hammer", "Rats", "Cirice", "Hunter's Moon", "He Is" and "Dance Macabre" ... then, maybe dip into "Year Zero", "Mary on a Cross", and "Kiss the Go-Go Goat". Other great songs (that don't have videos - yet, anyway - are "Kaisarion", "Griftwood", "Darkness at the Heart of My Love", "Faith", "Bible"...
So, my musical taste is pretty eclectic, and it might seem strange to LOVE both BTS💜 and Ghost👻 ... But, both bands are headed up by creative geniuses🧠 who know how to create songs with profound, thought-provoking lyrics (often deeper than it may seem on the surface), great beats and melodies, catchy hooks and amazing vocals. They both promote being good human beings. They both have major, major sex appeal! Both offer a lot of comedic relief (check out some TikToks). And, Tobias can even dance ... a little. 🤏
The members of Ghost always wear masks. BTS has a lot of songs about wearing a metaphorical mask...
So, Just for Fun: You know how most BTS ARMY's choose a "Bias", or favorite member?? (e.g.: Kyle: JungKook🕴, Me: Jimin🕺)
Who is your Favorite Papa? Me: Papa Emeritus III💀, My child: Cardinal Copia👺
