I absolutely loved the voice of Chuck Thompson. There were never two better announcers than Mr. Thompson and Curt Gowdy. When NBC covered the World Series when the Orioles played in them in the 60s and 70s you had the thrill to hear both of them in the broadcast booth. You really realize how much they are missed when you have to endure the lousy announcers around now (especially Joe Buck-who I turn off the volume when he covers any game)
Joe Buck doesn’t broadcast network baseball anymore, so it’s safe to raise the volume.
You're right about Joe Buck; I can't stand him either
In 1980 i went to play golf at pine ridge one day. I was 15 and went out alone. The starter had me play in a 4 some with Jim Palmer, Earl Weaver and Chuck Thompson. They couldn't have been nicer. I still hear chuck's voice and laughter echoing through those pine trees. Great memory and they all could play.
what a great memory for a kid. I played golf with Tippy once years ago
Diamond Jim Gentile!!!!....My Grandpa Luca's favorite player.
When Chuck Thompson voice came on the tv, you knew it was time to watch the birds at the hogan house….
food does look good. baseball was great back then.
Didn’t know John Boog Powell played the outfield I remember him as a. power hitting first baseman
How I long for this America again.
This was a time of peace and prosperity
I love Chuck Thompson
Earl Weaver! Earl was a treat to watch when he used to have it out with umpire Ron Luciano!
This is a absolute Gem of a video. I hope you can find more of these and post them
Do You Have Any Detroit Tigers Editions? 😎
Really outstanding film. Crisp and stunningly well-shot. This is a real treasure.
Amazing that they actually used to teach “breaking up the double play”. That has totally disappeared now because of the rules preventing such breaking up.
Whitey Herzog rips a double!
Whitey was A Detroit Tiger for one season I believe: 1959 ( or ) 1960? 😎
Incredible history here great stuff. Hopefully, you can find more even some Phillies ones. Thanks.
So great and relaxing.
Thanks for posting this. Outstanding!
Those really were the good old days. Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan and the other contrived wars were years in the future. No global warming, X- rated everything or computers. People actually respected each other.
No tattoos, no piercings, everyone well-dressed, and everybody spoke decent English.
Wow, this is fantastic! Thank you!
The Orioles were managed by Billy Hitchcock during 1962, but the club plummeted to a 77-85 record that season.
The seasons after this one would only get better
A perspective rarely seen.
AWESOME!!!
Thanks for posting. Great color video.
At 10:29, one of the players listed as going to the Rochester farm team is Gillick, as in future GM Pat Gillick...
The video shows Earl Weaver hitting practice grounders as a minor league coach.
Can you imagine today’s baseball players living in dorm type rooms, and eating in a dining hall?
I bet I'd be win 100 games with this team on the show
Yeah. If you played 1000.
