This genuinely has to be one of the most astounding South Park scenes. When I watch this scene, it makes me think of my cousin CJ. He played guitar in a heavy metal band called “A Texas Funeral” I still remember, to this day when I was 7 or 8 years old, my mom played one of his songs called “Walk The Line”, & I was surprised to find out my cousin was SHREDDING, like Butters in this scene.

First time I saw this I nearly spit out my drink. Anyone who grew up in a small town playing in bands knows how accurate this is. Also so many underground bands have the lead singer/screamer and then there is always another guy, usually the bass player or guitar player who will chime in with the occasional “clean” vocals lol. It’s so spot on!

Shelly fucking sucks. The only time she's been useful is when she babysat Cartman and her period joke when the boys were trying to see the Terrance and Phillip movie.
She was actually tolerable whith her vegan boyfriend. Tho tbh I wish she'd get a sort of redemption arc where she matures as an older sister. Only good she's done was get the boys to take responsibility for burning their teacher.
I really hope they revisit this at least one or two more times so it doesn't lose the charm. I've always enjoyed when the boys go off on their own things with other characters and a dedicated episode to these four would be great.
Metal vocalists actually use a lot of vocal technique. Even though it may seem like it's nothing, metal vocals take a lot of talent, especially death metal.

This reminded me of a time when I was a junior in high school. Our little town put on a 4th of July concert. It gave community members the opportunity to show off their talents. A lot of the music was country or old gospel. A couple buddies of mine decided we would do an improv metal song. The old man running the concert (who was a member of my dads church) took some convincing but we got him to agree. He was under the impression we would be playing some old rock music. We got up there and did our thing. The reactions from the crowd were EXACTLY what was on this South Park episode. Fear and confusion. The old man’s jaw hit the floor. He looked like he’d just seen the devil himself. After the song I ran off stage back to my dads church to either hide or help him with something I don’t remember. The old man came over and was telling my dad what a horrible thing I’d done and how he needed to punish me. My dad, in the most polite pastoral way possible, told him to fuck off. I thought I was going to be in trouble but my dad thought it was cool that I had done something like that. He said that no one should tell you what kind of music you should or shouldn’t listen to. This video brought back that memory. Good times

This reminded me of a time when I was a junior in high school. Our little town put on a 4th of July concert. It gave community members the opportunity to show off their talents. A lot of the music was country or old gospel.
A couple buddies of mine decided we would do an improv metal song. The old man running the concert (who was a member of my dads church) took some convincing but we got him to agree. He was under the impression we would be playing some old rock music. We got up there and did our thing. The reactions from the crowd were EXACTLY what was on this South Park episode. Fear and confusion. The old man’s jaw hit the floor. He looked like he’d just seen the devil himself.
After the song I ran off stage back to my dads church to either hide or help him with something I don’t remember. The old man came over and was telling my dad what a horrible thing I’d done and how he needed to punish me. My dad, in the most polite pastoral way possible, told him to fuck off. I thought I was going to be in trouble but my dad thought it was cool that I had done something like that. He said that no one should tell you what kind of music you should or shouldn’t listen to.
This video brought back that memory. Good times
