13:13 the sound of rock about to happen... but honestly this amp is not made for single coil plucking. Its made to be an all out war vessel. Les Paul is needed to really see what this amp should be doing
First Thomas, this is a killer review. I wish every review would review the amp and not reviewer's playing. Second, your's is the best explanation I've on Mesa's interactive tone controls... quite a unique circuit. I call that a more elaborate pallete vs. a limitation. (I probably spelled pallete wrong...). So I just bought mine. It arrived 2 days ago. I'm an AXE FX 2 owner, so this is just my play tube amp so I can play. Great review!
Thanx for highlighting the way the controls interact on a cascading preamp circuit. It's been a Mesa Boogie principle since day 1, I think. I have a Mesa/Boogie Studio Preamp (early 1980s) & always had to twiddle the knobs to add/subtract some tonal shift. But when you hit the sweet spot for a tone you are searching for, it sounds great. I get the feeling with this Mini Rectifier that if there was a 15 w switch rather than 10 w, it might be a better package.
So to finish, I'm looking forward to seeing what interesting tones I can get out of this thing. FUN STUFF! Thanks again for the detailed review Thomas.
It would be nice to see your whole set up there... your computer, boards, and how you make the demos too, I'm also wondering how you talk and play without getting the guitar coming through your head mic...
oh, my answer was lost... so again: I prefer the mesa for clean an overdriven sounds, but the Engl for heavy stuff. And I must say that I really don't care for what's in there. I only care about sounds.
Thanks for a great review, its rear to find a well done review that captures everything... and no sailspitch.. question.... a 4X12 marshall would that make the bass unbareble?
The best review on this that I've seen. Some nice tones... but the 'interactive' tone controls aren't for me. Looking forward to the Tubemeister review!
The clean channel sounds very nice. Do you think you can get a BB King style tone from the amp? Are you using any pedals, or was that all the Mesa Boogie amp?
Klasse Review. Du hast ja auch schon den Engl Gigmaster 15 getestet. Welcher von beiden ist "besser"? Spiele Klassik Rock bis Metallica in der Wohnung. Ist da der Mesa "too much" wegen seiner brachialen Leistung?
Great review, I've had mesa's for a while. I like your tweak explanation. I've found bass is best 10 o'clock or lower. Gain not much higher 12 o'clock. You mentioned a couple of either ideas I'll try. Thanks for the vid. It sounds pretty grown up for such a little amp.
hi there, thank you. I just couldn't get the sounds you mentioned. I guess thats me : ) my setup is (always) a Palmer PDI-03 speakersim to my computer.
One of my fav heads from glassy cleans to heavy thunder. But the WORST knobs ever. Cool metal, modern looking vibe but a pita to see even if you mark them. I set everything but the volumes and gains straight up and run through a MXR 10 band EQ,
how does the Tube Meister 36 compare to this Mini Rec? I feel feature wise the TM36 is better but hows the sound compare to the TM36 clean and OD side? I have the Mini rec and the thing that bugs me is the vintage sides fizzyness and farting buzzy distortion sound not sure if thats normal. awesome demo tho by the way :) Thanks
imo, it is a great amp, but certainly a dual rec has more oomph for metal rhythm. It can do metal, just not quite dual rec metal. Also do not agree that it is muddy on the distortion channel. The clean channel is kinda muddy with humbuckers, burt great with single coils
@ThomasSchuber.. Very complete review.. However, since you are doing a demo for an amp that is said to be geared for the metal player, How about using a guitar thats geared for metal. I also have this amp and it's an animal when played with active pickups.
@Falling2Grey29 Build: no idea, both pretty sturdy Versatility: Mesa Feature: Draw (Built in Speaker sim in the Engl, 1w settiing) Sound: incomparable, Engl for my taste better for Metal/Hard styles, High gain (No Mud) Way better Cleans on Mesa Ok?
I am choosing between H&K Tubemeister 36 and Mesa Mini Rectifier. I like a good Clean, Full, lots of headroom with good Bass. OD like crazy :) TOOL fan and Metallica, something like that. Whats the Best choice ? Mesa as a good really Clean Volume ? IN the mesa fxloop return works as power amp if i want to insert my GT6 in there with pre amp sims ? Best regards and thanks in advanced
is the sound coming from your monitors now, or directs with the palmer to recorder, as in most of your vids, where is the sound coming from, direct silent recording or...do you have some silent palmer recordings you could direct me to ...thanks
Found, watched: I disagree. the Mini has a more boxy nature than the dual. (which isn't a bad thing...) I do agree my Palmer tends to display a more thick sound than a .... Vintage 30 4x12. but muddy? Keep in mind I use a Loadbox, so I usually play the amp way louder than you would ever do (ouch!)
Play it through a Mesa Cab with V30's plug in the right guitar and trust me there is absolutely nothing flabby about this amp, the review yes, but not the amp.
Im a metal player (and that's kinda the reason why i watched this review), as much as they advertise it for metal players, I find this mini rec sounds too muddy compairing to my dual rec (sold :[ ) and realized this thing isnt as good as i thought it would be after watching this review. can you please do a review on an Orange Jim Root Terror? thanks, really nice playing.
Cool thanks. How does it compare in your experience to an actual miked cab? And one last question, how to do you listen to your guitar while playing? Is the palmer hooked up to speakers? (Sorry for all the questions!)
ThomasSchuber - Thank you! It sounds beautiful. Any suggestions for a production reverb to be used primarily for high gain leads? I have a mini rectifier head and a 2x12 rectifier cab. Cheers from NYC! : )
Hi. Please, help me. I own a Tubemeister 18 combo. I´ve recently bought a good 1x12 cab, so I´m planning to sell the combo and buy a small head. Obviously, my first option is the Tubemeister, because I already loves it. Anyway, I´ve been thinking of this one and the Egnater Rebel 30, as well. Which small head do you think will sound better in bedroom settings? One more thing: I don´t like the power soak on Tubemeister, so I ran it in full 18 watts. Help me please. Cheers from Brazil!
What are the speakers or cabinet you are using? Is it possible that the "fartness" or "floppyness" you are talking about is actually your speakers breaking up?
I have owned one now for 2 years and I love it. Yes playable at bedroom levels, but it gets VERY loud, this is one of the best amps I have ever had for home and studio playing. Scratch that it is one of the best amps I have ever owned period.
qwerrewq qwerrewq cheesus christ , everybody play metal with this amp , you're came in the only one where someone finally has tried a strat , for sake , you're in the wrong video man!
This is the most honest and concise review I have seen! Thanks for all of your work with this!
13:13 the sound of rock about to happen... but honestly this amp is not made for single coil plucking. Its made to be an all out war vessel. Les Paul is needed to really see what this amp should be doing
totally correct
First Thomas, this is a killer review. I wish every review would review the amp and not reviewer's playing. I really enjoy your videos Thomas. Your humor makes the videos even more enjoyable to watch. Bleib bei der Stange ;)

One of the best reviews that I've seen.
I think this amp has more tonal quality than the bigger amps :)
Great review, very detailed! Also, how long did the doctor say you had to wear that shirt?
3 weeks
thank you, excellent explanation of the Mesa Boogie interactive tone control! And very good playing and sounds coming from your hands.
Dude your reviews are fantastic. Do more of them.
Professionally done, congratulations and thanks!
@ThomasSchuber Awesome. Thanks a lot. Honestly surprised you answered my question so well.
It would be nice to see your whole set up there... your computer, boards, and how you make the demos too, I'm also wondering how you talk and play without getting the guitar coming through your head mic...
That was very informative and entertaining! Keep it coming! 👍🏻 what cab are you using?
I liked the major/minor mixup sound
oh, my answer was lost... so again:
I prefer the mesa for clean an overdriven sounds, but the Engl for heavy stuff.
And I must say that I really don't care for what's in there. I only care about sounds.

sounds amazing
YOU CRAZY MAN! Getting huge tones without speakers!!!!
@ThomasSchuber Thanks Thomas, so we hear nothing but your recorded signal...only some Reverb. the sound is really nice...
very nice review!
great tones
@ThomasSchuber OK thank you my friend...you give me some faith in this palmer stuff :)
hi there, thank you. I just couldn't get the sounds you mentioned. I guess thats me : )
my setup is (always) a Palmer PDI-03 speakersim to my computer.
@stevoe1000
you always hear Palmer straight to board, Reverb added. No EQ or anything
haha! "Here are some picthures. We'll start with od, odff" :)
One of my fav heads from glassy cleans to heavy thunder. But the WORST knobs ever. Cool metal, modern looking vibe but a pita to see even if you mark them. I set everything but the volumes and gains straight up and run through a MXR 10 band EQ,
Thomas, great as usual! Can I run this amp, Palmer PDI03 directly into a active speaker (jbl, mackie, rcf) or mixer PA? Thanks!
not really, depends on the speakers loaded. try different cabs, these BIG 1x12 Boogies are also very good.
@ThomasSchuber Do you mean that we hear the palmer from your monitors, or do you record direct to your board and then add the audio to your video
how does the Tube Meister 36 compare to this Mini Rec? I feel feature wise the TM36 is better but hows the sound compare to the TM36 clean and OD side? I have the Mini rec and the thing that bugs me is the vintage sides fizzyness and farting buzzy distortion sound not sure if thats normal.

Sounds great. What reverb are you using in your DAW? Do you remember the type of verb/room and percentage in the mix? Its perfect.
thats a TC electronic G-major, about 30% Reverb
if there is one thing I remember about mesa ownership it was the constant twiddling of the controls that drove me nuts
I want a mesa, but this idea of constantly tweaking them worries me. I'm a simpleton. I like to plug and play.
@051234darren
I also fail to see the metal thing in the amp. Orange will be covered...
you could, though I'd add a reverb unit also : )
What chords / chord progression are you playing at 4:28? Sweet review btw
Moin Thomas,

feel free to post a link to that comparison
"Flubbiness" as u call it, might go away with a humbucker pickup. Hence, possibly a tighter low end sound...
great job. My little mesa 5 25 does get flubby on the bass too, no like that. I have a peavey with no flub but not as nice.
Play it through a Mesa Cab with V30's plug in the right guitar and trust me there is
absolutely nothing flabby about this amp, the review yes, but not the amp.
for Bedroom level I'd go for the Tubemeister 5.
I've never played the mentioned Combos, Sorry
Im a metal player (and that's kinda the reason why i watched this review), as much as they advertise it for metal players, I find this mini rec sounds too muddy compairing to my dual rec (sold :[ ) and realized this thing isnt as good as i thought it would be after watching this review. can you please do a review on an Orange Jim Root Terror? thanks, really nice playing.
Whats the better amp in your opinion, build, versatility and feature wise: this Mini Rec, or the Engl Gigmaster 15?
I see you're using a Palmer from other comments. Which Palmer model are you using and why or how did you choose that model?
Thanks!
PDI-03, over-Simple layout.
Cool thanks. How does it compare in your experience to an actual miked cab? And one last question, how to do you listen to your guitar while playing? Is the palmer hooked up to speakers? (Sorry for all the questions!)
where is the speaker? or is the cable going to ...the void
Amazing Demo! What kind of reverb are you using on both channels? Thanks!
uad emt-140 Emulation. Postproduction...😀
ThomasSchuber - Thank you! It sounds beautiful. Any suggestions for a production reverb to be used primarily for high gain leads? I have a mini rectifier head and a 2x12 rectifier cab. Cheers from NYC! : )
You remind me of Prof. Dr. Harald Lesch :)!
Great Video btw!

@051234darren that at loud volumes?
Which 2x12 cab would you recommend to join this little baby?
Dear Mr. Schuber,
How do you like this amp in comparison to the Engl gigmaster ?
as long as we are not talking ultraclean: definitely yes.
Of course: get a good cab.
can you do a orange th30 vs. the mesa mini? which would you prefer?
What are the speakers or cabinet you are using?
Is it possible that the "fartness" or "floppyness" you are talking about is actually your speakers breaking up?
since I use a Palmer Speaker simulation, no.
even the PDI09 or not?
Hello Thomas thanks for the nice demo, is this amp playable at bedroom volumes on the 10 watt mode? thanks
R Will mmmmm, yes. No. Try
I have owned one now for 2 years and I love it. Yes playable at bedroom levels, but it gets VERY loud, this is one of the best amps I have ever had for home and studio playing. Scratch that it is one of the best amps I have ever owned period.
Thanks :)
Wo wohnen Sie? Welche Stadt? I bin Brasilianische, aber ich lerne Deutsch!
What equipment do you use for recording?
ohhhh, that could be am - G#7+5 - dm7 - E7+5
try this amp with a humbucker? maybe?
13:17 = eargasm!!
6:08 dödö fpppppp dödö fppppp :D haha so eine geile art reviews zu machen.
nice daytona!
4:34 Why bassist review guitar amp?
@stevoe1000
Direct and added
O dear you've got a cold :(
Ha ha ha
Thanks for the review :)
Best part 3:00
@dyeguitar

Trololol, ich Schaue dieses Review, denke mir nix böses, schau mir den Preis an... und gehe wieder rückwärts zur tür raus :D
Short: stick with the Mesa.
who?
hmm i don't like that amp >.<
i think it's very overpriced too.
Terrible review. The speaker sim is crap.Sound no.
qwerrewq qwerrewq
don't hesitate to get lost
Man,to use a Stratocaster for this review, and not play any metal rif is the height of idiocy.
qwerrewq qwerrewq cheesus christ , everybody play metal with this amp , you're came in the only one where someone finally has tried a strat , for sake , you're in the wrong video man!
Its definitely a good amp but very overpriced. For the same price you can get marshall JVM410H which is undoubtedly a much better amp.
You try to compare two complete different amps. There is no better than.. there is only different.
