  • Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and the bosses of TikTok, Snap, X, and Discord were questioned for almost four hours by US senators. The hearing comes amid a push by lawmakers for legislative measures to ensure safety on online platforms. Zuckerberg was also asked to apologise to parents who claimed that Instagram played a role in their children's suicides or exploitation. Watch!

the issue here is about the dangers of social media. social media is a farce. we really dont need it except for business purposes imo. i DA my facebook and stopped using it years ago coz i know its useless for personal reasons and people are getting harassed and all sorts of things there. i dont see the positive side to it tbh. having likes doesnt boost your confidence, etc. and nothing beats real connection and actually talking to people.

Your analogy proves the point that Zuckerberg should compensate. The car company should compensate a victim for an unsafe/bad car. Zuckerberg created an unsafe/bad car which the users are made to believe is a safe/good car. If the safety belt doesnt work as expected, the victim should be compensated. As an example - the kids were never supposed to receive adult content, but the kids got exposed to it because the facebook/iG platform did not work as expected

They are biased against tech ceo's where they've decided there's a problem and they're corrupt and won't change their minds, yes that is a hundred percent true.
I completely agree and think it's a good thing to police them so they don't keep screwing people with layoffs, permanently replacing jobs with AI/ML, and distracting young people from focusing on themselves and getting started in competing for resource acquisition in an extremely competitive and brutal job market. I'm saying your opinion isn't representative of much despite being from the constituent supposed to be protected, because everything you've asked is being investigated and you don't have as much context as almost everyone else if you're extremely young. I think the logic "I'm a young person so I know about my demographic best as supported by things like emotions and anecdotes from my community of young people" just isn't representative enough for this kind of widespread and insidious issue. If there was a different logic backing the opinion and if there wasn't already 20 years of public health articles starting to be investigated then would be saying something else.

Social media is a deep rabbit hole, specifically designed and engineered to increase engagement, with no particular allegiance to the truth or to rules or expectations, and regardless of who they're throwing under the bus. False posts are very often circulated due to high engagement, with no rectifying measures by these companies. Child pornography and malicious content still exist to a high degree. Humans are being made the product and you cannot pretend that all these things are the fault of the parents. Adults are highly susceptible to the addictive nature of social media too, so we can't pretend like this is just a parent-children issue.
I agree that this hearing was ridiculous and these politicians are hypocrites who can't seem to let the man finish his sentences. Even I hate Mark Zuckerberg for his refusal to care about the lives of the consumers but I would not have conducted a hearing like this. "Did you fire someone?" Trust in Jesus, Hell is real and eternal! This is what the Bible says about it..
"The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. They will throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth." Matthew 13: 41-42
Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven "I am the way, the truth, and the life no one comes to the father but by me." John 14:6 Ask God to reveal this to you- He will!
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23 ADMIT THAT YOU'RE A SINNER. We've all broken God's laws and ten commandments.. "Thou shalt not lie, steal, covet, dishonor parents, take God's name in vain.."(Exodus 20) We do not have righteousness on our own to get to heaven, "God made him (Jesus) who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God." 2 Cor. 5:21 Godly sorrow leads to genuine repentance for sinning against the righteous God and there is a change of heart, we change our mind and God changes our hearts and regenerates us from the inside out. God is deadly serious about sin, when we genuinely repent we hate sin just as God hates it, and we turn away from it.
"But God commended His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us." Romans 5:8 BELIEVE IN YOUR HEART THAT JESUS CHRIST DIED FOR YOUR SINS, WAS BURIED, AND THAT GOD RAISED JESUS FROM THE DEAD. This is trusting with all of your heart that Jesus Christ is who he said he was. He saves us from sin and hell and brings us into a relationship with him. We become God's children. We are saved from hell, eternal death.
"For whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved." Romans 10:13 CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD. Every single person who ever lived since Adam will bend their knee and confess with their mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord, the Lord of Lords and the King of Kings.
Read the Bible, Walk with the Lord and give your life to Him!

exactly! they’re forgetting that it’s also the parents’ responsibility to protect their children from the dangers of the internet that could potentially and even most likely cause harm to their children, it’s really their fault because they’ve neglected their children and gave them unrestricted access to the internet. without any supervision at all their children would end up getting exposed to inappropriate content.

Politicians have years to push law and reforms that will systematically help solving modern dilemmas, including cyber abuse. They CHOSE not to. Now people think the politicians suddenly care just because some kids commence suicide?
