  • Montreal’s GKO is an explosion of music and dance, circus and imagination. The band is a creative chaos inspired by Afro-Colombian rhythms and percussions as well as a variety of sounds. Such sounds are rooted in traditions of liberation and self- empowering through music and dance.
GKO is part of an international cumbiero movement, with a Kumbia Girovaga, Gigantic, Global and Galactic. The orchestra keeps a traditional groove by using all acoustic instruments, but it adds a flavor that could transport you to either an exuberant tropical landscape, then to the extravaganza of the Balkan’s universe or to the golden era of the big bands. Combining accordion, violin, clarinet, brass session, Colombian percussion, singing and dance, GKO is a world in itself.
Since 2012 GKO has played over 300 concerts across Canada plus a monthly sold-out night in Montreal's highly regarded venue Sala Rossa (2013- 2018) They have self-produced sold out shows in venues such as Club Soda (2014- 2015), Rialto (2017) and Le National (2018). The band has completed three international tours (Colombia in 2014, France in 2015 and Czech Republic and Austria in 2016).
It has been self-producing shows in Montreal for the last 5 years (6 shows per year) that attract crowds of 400+ fans. They have won numerous prizes and awards, including Stingray Rising Stars 2016, Camuz People’s Choice “Best World Music Group” 2014 & 2015. In 2015, the GKO produced its debut album Revuelta Danza Party, which reached #10 on the European World Music Charts and was nominated at the Junos and ADISQ awards in the Best Album - World Music category.
They are the subject of the upcoming feature film called FAIT VIVIR by international award director Oscar Ruiz Navia, (Crab Trap, Los Hongos, Epifany). The movie is a documentary portraying the daily life of the artistes, the dreams that feed this adventurous project and their powerful stage performance that propels movement and freedom.
