I'm not in the contingency of people who don't like lying or being lied to in social strategy games (I think of it as "everyone consented to play this game in which they knew they would likely lie and be lied to, so we have a social contract agreeing that this is fine"), however, I am notoriously bad at straight up lying to people, and particularly in person, people can read me really easily.
I really liked these tips. I tend to stick in and around the truth vaguely unless I'm specifically the demon in BOTC, as it's easier for me and means I don't get immediately called out haha.
(PS. sorry for lying directly to your face when I was the demon.)
What is the proper name of your game you mentioned? The one that sounds like "spirits of car dimension"? Thanks.
Spirits of Carter Mansion! you were pretty close
Thanks for the video! I'm curious about your thoughts on a phenomenon that I call, "lockout".
Basically, this is when other players refuse to talk to you. The game starts, people break off immediately into groups and then you're left alone. You try to see if anyone will speak to you, and they're either to busy or don't want to. Even going over to them doesn't work. They get defensive and turn down a conversation. By the second or third round, people have already narrowed you down as a certain role, they vote for you, and you have no defense that they'll believe. This has happened to me as both a good and evil character, and it's super frustrating, because I feel like I can't actually play the game unless I'm an "important" role.
How does one account for that?
This is a tough one because I don't believe lying or not lying is going to solve this problem. This is something I see a lot more in mixed experience level games, where people with a bit more experience try and power game over the new players, and play in a selfish way. This is much more the group, and clique's than it is the game, in my opinion
Thank you! I'm a newbie to the game. I'm not very good at lying/ reading people. But I want to play still cause I like it, so this video helped.
Could you do more BOTC videos?
Yeah I have been thinking about it!
Is there any particular topics you think haven't been covered enough on CZcams?
@@CutlassBoardgames strategies? Guides to different character roles maybe?
