I shorten my SCX24 servo wires all the time using the procedure you outlined.

It's pretty easy to do it the other way in my opinion. Push the pins out of the connector, cut the wires to the length you need and re solder to the pins and push them back in to the connector. Doing it this way you won't have bulges in the wires by soldering in the middle and you don't have to worry about soldering to the board.

Soldering to the pins creates a weak point in these tiny wires. But yes, that way works too. Soldering on the board is easier than to the pins (which aren’t designed to be soldered to)
Also, some connectors don’t do well if the wires are soldered to the pins (vs being clamped on)

@@TheShopMiniRC I've never had a problem doing it that way, I always clamp them on and give them just the slightest amount of solder to make sure they aren't going to come out. I certainly don't see how that could make them a weak point when they're made that way, maybe if you use too much solder. I have repaired balance connecters the same way on small 2S batteries like the one the FCX24 comes with. It's certainly easier and safer than soldering to the board where you can accidently cross a run.. obviously just my opinion, do what works for you.

@@FlailinMonkey I agree. What ever is most comfortable for the user. I am def not saying your way is wrong. And I think we can both agree that either of these ways are better than just soldering in the middle of the wire :)

I’m so tempted to do this on my AO6CLS micro servo to shorten the wires for cleaner look. Or i could just do the easy way by heat shrinking the extra wire. 😅
