I was recommended a Hammers 3-9x40AO air rifle scope from a friend I trust. Made for air, got mildots, very clear, almost 14" long, comes with see thru lens covers, [love those], $77.64 delivered. Can't beat that with a stick. Mounted on my Gamo Bone Collector, plenty of room for the break to clear and plenty of room for good sighting. FULLY ADJUSTABLE - Variable 3x-9x power and 40mm parallex adjustable objective. Fingertight windage/elevation adjustments. Focus as close as 5yards at lower magnifications. Bought from Amazon.
I just want to let you know that you sir are a fantastic "presenter of information!" As a teacher, I am often frustrated with the way people on CZcams present the information that they are trying to get across. Don't get me wrong I appreciate their effort, but often they fall short of really getting the information to the viewer. You were clear, concise, gave great examples and came across very likeable and approachable to the viewer. Well done and thank you for the video, it gave me much to consider!
Tom, maybe on a future follow up video about scopes you could cover adjustable objective and parallax when choosing scopes. I've starting researching scopes myself and have found those to be some of the harder pieces of the puzzle to learn about. I feel that is is particularly important with airguns due to their shorter max effective ranges when compared to firearms (for which most scopes are made).
A good instructional piece. However, I would have liked to see something concerning scopes that are appropriate for springers. In short, scopes that keep their center even with the recoil that springers bring to the table --- especially when mounted on dovetails. Thanks you.
multicolored reticles help with certain backgrounds blending in on the reticle color so changing color for a particular background so the reticle can be seen more clearly.
Well said my friend!! The lighted 36 colors is a definite plus... and i am NOT color blind! I came in handy for me... and i like how you covered scope position too. Those are my many thousands of reasons why i switched over to Leapers UTG now.
Well, yeah we have done scopes a few times but this is a great addition and much needed topics were covered. Great job to Tom Gaylord and the PA team. Keep em' coming guys and hope to see you in Sept at the fun shoot.
Thank you for the informative presentation. Now, I think we need a base that has the ability to be adjusted, upon which the scope is mounted. Please address THAT !
Hi tom, what you have there is a gas strut (spring), when theoben invented the gas ram for air rifles the contained nitrogen and piston were one item, and as the piston compressed the air on its stroke it rammed air through the port and into the barrel hence "gas ram", of coarse they did not invent the ram but they were the first to incorporate it into an airgun, so their system is a gas ram but the strut (spring) is just that and not a ram system. keep it up tom.
Only had two scopes so far. Both 4x32. Center Point and a Tasco. The CP came along with my cheap Crosman Phantom .177 break barrel, and has worked well for years. The Tasco been all good on my Sig Sauer Virtus .22 PCP - but just barely worked for up to 50 meters. 50meters worked well mostly because the Virtus ain't that accurate to begin with - but the group still do begin to occur where the lines cross..🤣 Been concidering a 3-12 scope as next since I do wanna stretch up a bit further out visually as have before. 4x does not always look as the "4x" claimed by cheap scopes...
A good reason to mount a scope as low as possible is to make it easier to get a good cheek weld, which is critical if you're shooting standing, sitting, or prone. The UTG scope on my Marauder is so low that I can't use the objective cover because it contacts the barrel shroud. (Yes - it clears the magazine.)
very nice and captivating vid. sir, plz advice a suitable scope for my Diana Magnum 460 as I am given to understand that they are scope shatterers . would appreciate this advice from a legend like you . thank you from India !
I prefer to mount as low as possible on a springer...for trajectory reasons. But on a powerful PCP (if it is accurate on long range) I prefer a high mount because it, so to speak, flattens things out between 65 and 100 meter.
This is the most comprehensive, and concise collection of information concerning airguns Thank you for making it available, I'm sure this series will help many new air gunners lean the ropes.
Thanks for the vid. We all have our opinions, but I like to see objective reason for those opinions, (not just claim something as if it is fact). I am sure, because of trajectory, that the lower the scope is, the wider your range for an accurate shot without a mill dot. The difference in range may only be 5 to 10 yards between a 1 inch difference in scope height, but that is yardage where you don't have to offset your cross hairs from the center. Also, I am not sure why a color blind person would want or need 36 different cross hair colors than a normal vision human. I am not color blind as far as I know, and I am sure I would not even know the names of half of those colors, or even care what color it is. It's a "abstract artist type", (useless, again not based on objective reason), sales gimmick IMO. We may not agree, but you seem like a heck of a nice guy.
Yes, sadly it's not unusual for airgun manufacturers to include lower quality scopes in bundles. At Pyramyd Air we often recommend buying the gun separately and a scope that is suited for airguns (in case of break barrels that is rated for spring powered airguns)
Can you post a link for episode 18? I have a new Hatsan BT Carnivore, and I understand that the rings have to be elevated so the tube can clear the cartridge. Thanx
Hello Tom, I just purchased the Gamo Swarm Maxxim.22. The scope that came with it isn't that good. What would you recommend for an upgrade? Going to be doing some late afternoon/ evening ratilla hunting & plinking. Thanks!
Tom, I am new to airgunning. I am going to purchase a 25 cal Umarex Gauntlet pcp when they come out in a couple of months. Thinking about getting a Hawke 3-9x40 IR. Can't imagine ever shooting past 75 yards...50 at most. Is 3-9 enough or should I go 3-12?
Need suggestions on a replacement scope for a RWS 300. I was looking around and can't find one. I would like one that can handle jarring, the recoil of the break barrel when it fires etc.
I have the Hatsan 135 .30 cal. springer, and need a scope that is precise and holds up. Why not use this springer, (the beast of them all BB), to do a scope test for reliability, accuracy and repeatability. The gun is known, the scope is not. If you want to find the best scope for any springer, use this springer. I don't want to see anything less than 450 rounds either.
I just purchased a Hatsan 95/22 from PyramidAir and gave the supplied Optima scope to my 12 year old son for his Hatsan Alfa Junior. Now I have no idea what to get for me. I was almost about to pull the trigger on the UTG 3-9X32 Bugbuster but the negative reviews are troubling. Many say it does not hold up to the spring recoil of air guns. This is a problem. As I mainly shoot 10 to 35 yards I have no idea what to buy. My budget is -$100. Any suggestions?
Yo Howzit! Check this one out. It even comes with rings, so you are good to go out of the box. www.pyramydair.com/s/a/Leapers_UTG_3_9x32_AO_Rifle_Scope_Mil_Dot_Reticle_1_4_MOA_1_Tube_3_8_Rings/4627
Thanks PA. That looks like a great scope. How does it compare to the BSA? www.pyramydair.com/s/a/BSA_Essential_3_9x40_AO_Rifle_Scope_30_30_Duplex_Reticle_1_4_MOA_1_Tube/4402
Great information however I have a question. Today I ordered the Weihrauch HK 97 in the synthetic stock. What is a good scope that will take the shock of a springer and not give me problems down the road? Thanks 🙂
I have a slavia 630 break barrel, and I have only some little info about the scopes thing, but I preffer the duplex reticle. Any suggestions for a specific scope? Ps: I read an article on the pyramydiar website about the slavia 631, so you should know some things about it.
Helium molecules are really tiny compared to nitrogen/O2 molecules, so existing seals will not prevent most leaks. But... There are some people out there who use helium to power their airguns
The big dog in the room is totally ignored - the punishing double recoil of powerful spring-piston air rifles that will destroy a big dollar scope in short order!
5:27 so when you were driving and the first time you came to a signaled intersection and the lights were sideways, what did you do? Obviously, a normal virtical signal red on top green bottom, but horizontal?
you said that high or low mount doesn't matter much, but if the airgun allow you to used lowest possible mount without a problem (like ie. my hw100) would you mount the scope low?
I have a hatsan 155 torpedo in .25, I was stupid and bought the spring piston model. Are there any scopes that can handle the amount of vibration? I bought a nice leapers scope and it stopped staying zeroed after the 100th shot or so.
+TrueTreeRadio Most scopes these days are air gun rated but you should make sure, MTC Optisan, Hawke, Nikko sterling, BSA, it goes on. but always check the rating. But there is also a product out there originally brought out by theoben the inventors of the gas ram, and that is the dampa mount for scopes, its a free ring systems where the rings are supported by very durable rubber grommets that enable the scope to ride the recoil of a gas ram but always returns to zero every time. I have been using them on my theobens for years with no problems at all. hope this helps.
Hi Abby. I see your comment is a year old, but I thought I would ask anyway... Did you ever find a scope for your TR-77 NPS. My nephew's TR scope is trashed. Thanks

try a leapers thats what i heard
Mine works great
I absolutely love the clarity of your videos
multicolored reticles help with certain backgrounds blending in on the reticle color so changing color for a particular background so the reticle can be seen more clearly.
Piney Lazer system helps a lot as well
Fantastic video. It's so nice to be able to watch someone who really knows what he's talking about. So much useful information. Great channel. Thanks!
Thank you!
Great vid. Just bought a Guantlet 25. Great questions in the comments. Please consider answering more of them
Another quality video with lots of information. Thanks Mister

Oh yeah beautiful view with Piney Lazer and Scope

best. thumbnail. ever
Can you use any powerburn scope on a air gun. Big bill.?

Red and green colorblind? So you're the guy that nearly hit me at the traffic light! lol
Thank you So much 😊

Great educational video. It helped me very much pyramydair! Thank you very much
Thanks, Tom. I am learning a lot from your posts.

Mine is a 3×9 with Red Green radical with elevation lines and mildots
I really like everything Tom Gaylord does and writes :)
Ditto.
He's very good at presenting all the info that he has for the audience!
This is the most comprehensive, and concise collection of information concerning airguns Thank you for making it available, I'm sure this series will help many new air gunners lean the ropes.
I have a 3×9 Red Green radical with elevation lines and a Piney Lazer system
Been looking at those, how helpful is it? Can you see the lazer?
Can I change the plastics rear and front sigths to metal sigths in air guns? Are accesories for that?
Thanks for the vid. We all have our opinions, but I like to see objective reason for those opinions, (not just claim something as if it is fact). But.. will they all work of a springer/nitro piston gun? Heard they are tough on a normal rifle scope
Great stuff. Good info. Thanks!
Tom ,best mountforRWS 350 scope is a 30mm UTG sniper.?
Almost anything would beat the centerpoint that came on my crosman.
Yes, sadly it's not unusual for airgun manufacturers to include lower quality scopes in bundles. At Pyramyd Air we often recommend buying the gun separately and a scope that is suited for airguns (in case of break barrels that is rated for spring powered airguns)
No one ever mention about magnum power air rifle and what scopes are good for it
Will any scope that fits work, I heard that the recoil on an air rifle is different and a regular rifle scope will not stay adjusted.
Can you post a link for episode 18? I have a new Hatsan BT Carnivore, and I understand that the rings have to be elevated so the tube can clear the cartridge.

tom if the scope burry at close's rang does that mean it only long range scope
To help someone with the same question, look for a scope that has a adjustable AO or A/O scope look for one that goes down to 10yd
Like nikon 16606
I am looking for a tri-pod for my new umarex synergis and a better scope.the one came that came with the gun to weak. Can u guys help me please

what about #4 reacle
What’s the best scope for a tr77 nps short barrel.. my recoil seems to damage some of my scopes please help me out
Hi Abby. I see your comment is a year old, but I thought I would ask anyway... Did you ever find a scope for your TR-77 NPS. My nephew's TR scope is trashed. Thanks
Can I use a scope for a 22 rimfire on my 22 cal airgun?
No, the recoil is side to side on a air rifle.
Using a scope that is not designed for this fact, will destroy the scope.
Can you please share a link to PCPs? Also, which PCP rifle would you rank to be the best in 22 caliber?
You missed FOV
Sir, which scope do u recommend for rws 350 magnum.
The RWS 350 is a real scope killer. Your best bet would be to get something from Hawke or Leapers(UTG). www.pyramydair.com/a/Accessories/Scopes/92
Thank you but what if i use it with a diana bullseye mount....
what happened to this channel
My high powered springer destroyed the bugbuster within 100 shots .
I'm OK no color blindness

Why does this channel talk with an attitude that people are dumb. It feels like someone talking down to their maid.
Cause some people ARE dumb?
