Both are amazing 🤩 watches but I’ve tried both on at a local jeweler and the SBDC051 all day long for me .
I like both watches, but I prefer the SPB149 in this case, but maybe that id due to my small wrist.
SBDC051 has better finish. Seiko was really focus on creating a new watch before finally they succumbed to the customer's demand to recreate the old stuff. By this time they don't really care anymore just keep re-releasing same watches just different colors. Qc went down hill from here. I stop buying seiko and get Citizen watches instead. The quality is top notch like seiko used to be.

SBDC051 is just special. I like the case shape and hands better.
It is a nice watch for sure. If it was a little smaller, I would still own it.
I have a 7,25 inch wrist, and the sbdc051 would fit me better. Also does look more classier to me than the spb149 and better finised. Great comparation !

Cool video, Kevin! FYI, the bezel insert on the SPB149 is brushed stainless steel, not ceramic. I recently picked up the SPB147 and was curious about that myself, so I did a bit of research. Check out the Hodinkee 'Week on the Wrist' article by James Stacey about his SPB143, where he states that he contacted Seiko USA & Seiko Japan, with both confirming that the entire SPB lineup had stainless steel bezel inserts. Thanks for sharing this great comparison!
Thanks for watching and commenting, I appreciate it feedback. That is an interesting note about the bezel insert as the few articles that I read stated that it is a ceramic bezel insert. I am happy with the watch either way though, LOL.
Both look great but I like the SDBC051 more definitely can't go wrong with either one
I like them both as well, but favor the S{B149.

I just come here accidently and If Ihave choose one it will be this bigger watch, looks way more premium and interesing, small one is kinda boring even if both looks simmilar, I think I will look for it y self

SBDC051 while large at only 42.6mm is a better watch. Am not a big proponent of slab sided case hence the 051 choice.
The SBDC051 had a 4 year run from 2017-2020 and they are still commanding $600 to $1000 bucks used. You can tell there is a lot of thought and resources that went into the making of the 051.
The abscence of the Minute Track on the new SPB Series is a cost-cutting measure as its cheaper and faster to produce MINUS one part.
My SEIKO STARGATE 44mm which is curved like the 051 melts on my 6.5inch wrist.
That being said there is something special about the SPB that makes it easier to Pair Bond.

Thanks, the double wrist was a spur of the moment thing, LOL. I have since sold the SBDC051, but I still have the SPB149. I really enjoy the SPB149, but the bracelet is a big let down. I might have to buy an aftermarket bracelet for it one day.
Just picked up the mm200 reduced myself and loving it for being my first "premium" Seiko. That SPB145 might be next. Been after a 62mas style watch and that colorway is just 🔥🔥🔥

@@WrongTimeWatch I love to get the 051 as it would fit on my 7.5 wrist but I notice it’s to round for a 20mm lug it should be 22mm and it looks weird
I prefer the SPB 149 myself, it is a beutiful watch.. I too prefer the smaller case, it looks better on my 7" wrist. I just picked up a SPB 213 while in Louisville KY and am enjoying it for the same reasons. I believe they share everything but the colors as the SPB149. I am anticipating the SPB 297 in a few months, I just hope I can score one.
Sometimes I get confused with all the different Seiko models of what appears to be the same watch, LOL. Thanks for the note about the SPB297, that is a very good looking watch as well.
In my opinion seiko does a nice job at this price point.

Swap the bracelet from the SBDC051 onto the SPB149 and you have a true winner.
That would work well. The bracelet on the SPB149 is a bit of a let down.
