Oh how special. My husband recorded this off TV in the '90s. It is my favorite performance of The Messiah. They were on tour in Holland.

Merveilleuse interprétation du Messiah de Handel, avec un aspect presque divin! Les voix des enfants donnent une couleur particulière à cette oeuvre qui nous transporte au-delà des réalités difficiles de nos existences et j'oserais dire, bien au-dessus de nos misères humaines. I have always listened to Messiah. Especially important now in this season of Lent with all our churches closed! It is magnificent and scriptural!
I watch this presentation every year. It has become a tradition and the Christmas Season (for me) would not be complete without seeing this. Everything about it was superlative. May God Bless you all for sharing this wonderful moment with the world.

Yes but the Italian Baroque composer Vivaldi of the same period had an all female orchestra.
It's not true. Women weren't allowed to sing only in the church. Oratorias by Haendel were given in e.g. in Mercer´s Hospital in Dublin or in Covent Garden Theatre and with women singing.

Hallelujah, praise God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. I went to church as a child and it all felt good and everything to go but I couldn't understand it all until I returned when I was older. Its a life long education though doubt and negativities can try to sneak in your head. I believe in the greater good. To serve God by loving and helping others and making right choices. That's the key. To make right and good choices in life and never be self serving.

I grew up with The Messiah at Christmas. I am not religious but the work is a masterpiece in its entirety. This song and a few others stand out in particularly. Played recently at my mother's funeral it will forever hold a sense of sadness for me now but that doesn't stop me adoring it. It is truly masterful and utterly beautiful.
My favorite and so needed to lift up our spirit during this covid 19 outbreak. Death has ruled NYC for the last several weeks, our souls are weary, masks gloves fear all around. So much anger and hate but hearing this lovely perfect harmony uplifting ..simply beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing...

As a Handel’s “Messiah” lover, I previously focusing on “Hallelujah” Chorus but neglected “A Child is Born to us”! This excellent performance woke me up to enjoy such a nice piece!

Have seen a great light;
Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death,
Upon them a light has shined."
The verse 6 says:

And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."
