Sara was like, "Nope, screw that, I ain't a carpenter..." and then shoved a premade shelving to complete her car storage conversion in less than a minute... genius!
I DID build the storage soooo hahaha
It would be genius only if the hatch would shut, which it will not. The only way it would fit would be to remove the folded down seat on that side. She has also completely obstructed her view out those windows. Better to put the shelf on the other side.
@@sightsofsara so did it fall over when you turned right?
@@jt1364 The hatch shuts fine because the window is angled out and you don't need a back window to drive, which is why construction vans don't have any. However if you like to see what's going on directly behind you, you can always install a camera on the back.
I like it when people like you keep it simple. So tired of seeing all these elaborate builds that requires expensive tools and carpentry skills. Why complicate things when simple and minimalist is better.
I agree!!!
same
I agree 💯 👍 this is so refreshing
Absolutely!!
Except it isn't
This is one of the quickest ways to convert any vehicle for one person complete with vast amounts of storage. I discovered this in anger after throwing in an Ikea Kallax modular storage unit into a small van. I would DEFINTELY recommend anchoring the storage unit down to avoid it tipping in case you have to swerve! Also you can wrap bungees around the front of the unit to prevent the storage boxes from flying out on bends! Otherwise I have not found a more simple way to convert a vehicle for one person, for 2 people this is not viable
I have the exact same car as you! Just in case you don't know; you can take out the seat cushions. Lift up the back and you will see the metal rods that connect the cushion to the seat. They are in these slots that you can easily slide them out of. I store mine at my parents when I am on the road. I love your conversion! Gave me some ideas for some upgrades to mine.
Nice, but......I would put the shelving unit behind the driver's seat so you can still see out the side windows.
The problem would be if you ever had to get to your driver's seat from onside the back of the van.
This by far is my favorite setup. Didn’t require any kind of crazy build or any raised platform, and made the most out of your Ford Escape. I hope to have a similar setup for my 16’ Toyota RAV4. Once again, thank you for posting this! I can’t wait to start my summer road trip in a few months. It’ll be cross country and last me 4 months!
How's life on the road if you have started?
Best simple conversion I have seen. Will be doing the same with mine, for my weekend camping.❤️
YOU DID AN OUTSTANDING JOB. ONE OF THE BEST I'VE SEEN.
The cube shelves are a great idea! What prevents them from tipping over?
Sarah, as a father of three girls from 19 to 26, please be very careful. I enjoyed your very cost effective build out.
Looks nice and functional like the side storage doesn’t block tailgate window
I started to love the idea of SUV camping and i wanna do it more to explore places with out bother renting or going to hotels
Awesome to see your side storage instead of a platform 👌🏽 inspired
Agreed. Leveling platforms are fine, otherwise headroom is more valuable than hip room
I sure hope you are going to tie your shelf unit. Oh n Velcro will melt down the window when it gets hot. I used suction cups after that fiasco. I also used reflectix it truly keeps the heat and cold out. I had a 6 drawer dresser and had screwed it to the floor and on my first big left turn it ripped out the floor all the drawers opened and dumped stuff. So tie down the top. Have fun…
If you switched sides for the storage you would be able to see out those windows better while driving.
Great job! I love the storage unit- terrific idea!
I loved your video and suv conversion!!🥰😊 Very cute, quaint and straight from your heart! Thank you, Sara!!🤩
Amazon have reflectix sheets of material also. It will help insulate your car, keeping the heat inside and the cold out so you can stay warm. Hope this helps.
I saw the entire vid and still wanted to know how you closed the back with the shelf sticking out?
Really cute and simple setup!
Love the simplicity of your van!
Congrats on a nicely done build. I wish you safe travels and lots of happiness on your adventures.
Good use of space. The cube shelving is a great idea. Thankyou for sharing.
This is the quickest, easiest and cutest van set up! Love it!
I'm so excited to see what you do cause you're just getting started and I will watch you from start to whenever you finish
Secure the shelving before you make a mess and break stuff. The stuff on the top is not going to stay. I tried that. The velcro will not last long and the window isn't going to roll down good. Iwould almost best the back door will not close the way the shelf sticks out. Great ideas just executed badly. Reflect8x for the windows. Smaller shelving...plastic even because it's lighter. Bungee to secure. Nothing sitting on top of anything. If you get in to a car accident, these things become projectiles and can kill you.
excellent road easy . and simple a thousand thanks teacher we hope to see more of your videos
Great job, Your video is right to the point.
Good job young lady. Hope you have fun with your adventures 👍
I have an SUV that I hope to convert and get on the road by this summer. I'm 68 and divorced with a little dog so it's perfect timing for me. Have you thought of cutting into the shelves a bit in the back so you could push it up against the wall more Flush?. Your build inspired me. Thank you. I liked and subscribed. God bless your travels.
Nice and simple thanks !
can you plug in a tiny instant water heater on that jackery? Also, once full charge, how long does it last before you have to charge it again?
Looks like that corner will hit the tailgate when closing
Nice setup.
Only thing u gotta do now is throw some 2% tint on those windows & ur golden.
Glad i found this channel thanks for sharing 💪
So cool! What ceiling storage net did you use?
Wow. 😍 Hi sara. Please show us about your camera and gadgets also. Thank you.
Amazing :)
New sub here. Your set up is very functional
Love your VAN!!!! I’ve got to know what did you use for your hammock for your shoes? I think that’s another favorite of mine!!
Awesome 👍👍👍👍👍
Love this! I’m encouraging my 15 year old girls to follow your story. I want them to think about non traditional things to do with their life.
@Kamille Jamieson I disagree. Traditional is you working your arse off for other people until you are able to retire. Then 85% of those retired still work because retirement isn’t enough to live off of. I’m a single momma raising independent self thinkers who are self employed! I’m a grandmother of 2 by my self employed 23 year old son. He’s owned his business for 3.5 years. I couldn’t be more proud of him. We are very non traditional and I hope my and pray daily my children continue to live non traditionally!! It’s so freeing and allows you true independence!!!
@Kamille Jamieson I would support my daughter in living how she wants but for practical reasons I would encourage a "traditional lifestyle". Primary is safety sadly females are at higher risk of being assaulted by "friends". Its a sad world where I have to teach a girl how to "hurt" a 👨
@@TualaFam you enabled it all to happen hope they show u respect.
@@adonnaprice6028 yesssss they do! I just bought my girls a short bus 🚌. They’re working on our farm this summer and in their free time they’re gonna but it and remodel it. Normally they get paid $9 an hour instead they’re paying me back for the bus and for remodeling. Thank you for the love!!
I loved it, want to make an suv conversion with my daughter and cat
I think im in love ❤😂
Love it but the shelving takes WAYYYYY to much space in my.opinion
By far a fantastic well put together van
I'd much rather do this & live gor for a minute & IF upgrading is needed, maybe...but this is what's up.
I love the storage bc l already hv tht & l hv no building experience.
Well did. I 💘it, really this is very good 👍.
The sticky tape or Velcro will not hold when it gets hot. I tried that at first. Instead I got thick sunshade aluminum roll and cut it out to fit my window and it holds.
*Update: Two sided Alien tape works
Great job young lady.
Very nice ❤
i am converting my 2016 escape into a tiny camper like this, did you not bolt the cube shelf down at all? ive been wondering how to make storage work and even thought of a cube shelf, but i worry about it falling over while driving, or worse on me while i sleep XP
i love your simple build tho! doest need to be fancy or complicated it just needs to work
Cute setup. I do see everything falling out of the shelves with one quick turn as well
Take out the 2nd row seats, and you have underbed storage where they were. To access the stuff while lying in bed, just open the door.
@Microgreens Grower that could do the trick and even strapping the shelf down or to the side wall somehow
Unfortunately Cadillac kid she doesn't answer any questions.
Looking good
You're gonna lose everything on that shelf, but only once...lol...you'll learn.🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁
Looks great! How do you keep from freezing or getting too hot in your car when you are sleeping in it?
She has a heater and a fan
What if you have to stop suddenly or swerve to avoid something, that stuff could go flying everywhere. I know I have a campervan.
That's a affirmative 😆 usually in the city though when people cut you off or get in front of you only to slam on brakes to turn into a store or animals that's why when driving i put everything away but those rubber mats to hold in place for the most part.
You can use metal magnets for your curtains. From dollar store.
Cozy 👍
Right on
Cool idea with window covers. Will windows roll down with the velcro strips on the windows?
I always read all the comments unfortunately she doesn't answer good questions like the one you are asking
We all know the answer to that. NOPE!
Oh cool Ive been wanting to get a net like that. Where you get that and whats the technical name for it?
You ask another very good question Corinna unfortunately she doesn't answer any questions.
Excellent
Do your layers for your bedding stay still when you toss and turn?
I was waiting the whole video to hear about your power source. At the very end you mentioned solar panels. Could you go into more depth please
I like your camper car my friend
So question.. how did you close your tailgate...that cabinet doesn't look like it fit!?
Hi Sara🙏
I wouldn’t put stuff on the window, I mean you never plan on being able to open the window. 😅
Very nice . But why jackery? i heard they only have 500 cycles and super expensive for that little time of life.
500 full discharge cycles and then there is a chance that it will only charge up to around 80% of full capacity. 1000w in a little SUV? She will have have years and years on that thing.
here from tik tok 🤪 lmaoo
Where did you get the cargo net?
Nice
Sara!!!
Ps. I subscribed😁😁😊
Use cigarette lighter slot for power plug and charger
😮
La puerta trasera no cierra. El mueble es muy largo.
Extension rods hello hung curtains for privacy and clothes
Get the cubed shelves for cheaper on Amazon and find different colors as well. You can also get the cubby bins at Dollar Tree and Family Dollar for cheaper, all colors.
Cheaper also means it falls apart because it’s total crap.
What looks like it would fit...won't. The hatch will not close with the shelf in there which one can clearly see that the shelf sticks out too far.
Ive literally driven 30,000 miles with it in there lol it closes
Is the bio in about? I looking to buy a battery I need to find you link
Thank Mango 🥭
Here is my link! Thanks so much www.jackery.com/?aff=272
Cozy
Cute.
Same side I sleep on
I just watched a bunch of guys buy tons of plywood and build a very nice but complicated SUV interior build. You on the other hand, used simple common sense to outfit your vehicle. And, this is another reason women live longer than Men ! Lol
When I did this several years ago, my storage was in back of the driver's seat so I could see out the right side widow while changing lanes and parking.
This is not the way to do this.....
The cabinet should go behind the driver’s side instead so that you don’t block off your visibility.
Totally agree.
it's better behind the passenger side (assuming no passengers) in case of a rear-end collision
👍🏽👍🏽🌸👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
👍🏽🌸🌸🌸
So where you are going?
If you flipped it so the shelf was on the other side of the car you would have better viability for driving
I think If she would have put the fabric against the window long ways she could have gotten the entire window cut out.
so you left in your seats, correct?
sorry I don't see a way to order the jackery!
www.jackery.com/?aff=272 here’s a link !
WARNING - Anything you put in your vehicle needs to be securely tied down. A lot of people have died from getting hit by stuff in their vehicles flying during an accident. One lady was killed when her microwave hit her in the head. Even if Sara wanted to keep it simple, she could have attached the shelving unit to the passenger seat with a strong strap. Heavy duty bungee cords attached to nails driven into the sides of the unit could have been used to keep everything in place.
Being minimalist is about living a better life, not a shorter life.
Thank you, 🌺👏🌺👏🌺. I checked out jackery 1000, but I need to learn more about them….
Have never used them and don’t know how to gage the size I should get. But I will buy it through your link,
No one has ever asked. Thanks again your truck looks really good!
Yes, I was wondering which model she got. I made the mistake of getting the 240 - will now have to buy the 1000.
How long is the bed of the escape with the back seats down ? How tall are you?
😱 😬 Heaven forbid if you get rear-ended that shelving unit will do serious impact damage and could easily kill a passenger. Maybe try to secure it by locking it in place somehow 🤷🏻♀️
Where is the toilet?
Great Job although you will need to take it all out to get to your spare wheel??
Ideas are great but materials used needs to be more realistic. Why cut the foam? Why is the shelf longer than the area it's in?
What use are those green covers on the windows? Like every one said we are left side drivers in North America you need to cut the shelves in 1/2.
I use the same ideas but use proper windon covers, size shelves, foam bedding and keep all the things in the back. Foam bedding rolls up you know. Junky passenger seat not necessary. I also use my SUV but have a box bed. Like your sleeping on the floor better, more head room.
$ store
A 5 INCH FOAM WOULD HAVE BEEN MORE COMFY I WOULD SUGGEST.
