A Brooklyn mother said she hears rats screeching in the walls of her NYCHA apartment every night due to an infestation that she's struggling to get addressed.
I grew up in a NYCHA project so I have seen a lot, but there is no way on GOD'S green earth I can live comfortably with rats running around. I freak out over cockroaches because I live in the South now, I would literally pass out if I see a rat in my home, it would take ALL my breath away. 😱
Nisha, I grew up in NYCHA-Harlem as well. I've never seen so many rats in my life but when I lived in the Bronx mice were a problem. Those rats have taken over NYC. I moved to California over 20 years ago. 😊
I think they should make the slum Lord owner stay in her house for a week, or two! See how he likes it. They have nice homes, so they could care less. Mice are bad enough, let alone rats.

The rats own New York! NYCHA only helped this young woman because she went to the News and told her story. She needs to move out of there! The poor little dog is no match for the rats! Actually, Yorkshire Terriers were bred to hunt rats…. in open fields not small apartments. I’m sure hearing them and not being able to chase them causes the little guy much stress. Not to mention sleepless nights:(
People need to take whatever preventive measures to live comfortably. Purchasing DIY products. Traps, poison, steel wool & plaster to block entry holds until professional assistance arrives.
This is so disturbing that this lady or any tenant has too live under these conditions, I wish she could move. I am glad she's getting help now but I hope the management company or owners do things to improve the conditions in the building and apartments. Everyone deserves to live in good conditions she can seal up those holes in her apartment until they are repaired, the products i buy i would remove it from the rent after i contact the management company and ect.
In my view, I'd rather work 60 hours a week than get a discount apartment in that state. The lesson, nothing in life is free. You want quality living, rent on your own..
I had a similar problem and the apartment management refused to clean up the abandoned apartments on each side of mine and there was a huge mouse problem and i called the health department. Apartment management immediately fixed the problem and i moved out asap. Sometimes being a "karen" is called for!
There used be rats in our bathrooms walls years ago We had two street moggies and they never came through. Whenever they heard them, the cats would wait for them by that wall.
She's 33 years old work. Lady start working hard and move the hell out. If you're on public asstiance and all get off of it! Work a good job you're young and perfectly capable of making things better for you and your kid/kids life. So no, I don't feel bad for the way people choose to live. I'm 51 and I raised both my kids by myself after their father accident and live in an extremely high end neighbor and rent a beautiful home. I bust my ass to live like this. When it comes to living in a beautiful home you pay for what you get and you have to work hard for it. When you don't want to do anything with your life this is what you have to settle for period!

In Canada if you live in Alberta is great because Alberta is rat free and they actually have a rat patrol. If any are spotted, they will come out and kill every rat in sight.🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Peanut butter mixed with baking soda on the rat traps works like a charm ! also spray ammonia , bleach or peppermint spray everywhere around the house since they don’t like that smell !!!! Also adopt a cat 🐈 just by the cats scent the rats will avoid your house and go to your neighbors house
Not really. Helps to a certain extent. I'm an exterminator. Not the ones who just come in put poison and spray . I look for the initial cause of having the pest issue. Have to seal up holes on the exterior and place bait stations for rodents to go and eat the bait and kill of the population. Mandatory

Use Baking soda with gloves and place it inside the walls, cabinets, garbage bin anywhere you see or hear rodent activity. glue traps. People all over the country are complaining about rodents. Farmers use baking soda and corn muffin mix . The rodents EAT the mix and go back to where they are hiding and it explodes in their system.
A new stove and sink is not going to help. What needs to be done is seal up holes on inside of that apartment and mainly on outside of that building. People always saying"how rodents get in?". Well of course thru an opening on the outside. And also installing bait stations on exterior of home to eliminate all rats nearby. If she's still having this problem I'll be happy to help but the landlord would know it comes with a price. I will make sure she or nobody in that building will see rats entering their homes. Everyone needs to put Rat Poison in there House or Apartment. I had this problem 6 years ago. I got the Rat Traps that children or dogs can’t get into. Bucket of poison that’s hard green square. I talked to several of my neighbors and they refused to help with the rat problem I really don’t understand why not.

Mix baking soda and corn bread mix. It will kill them. As for your holes stuff them with metal steel wool and they won't come in.

Everyone needs to put Rat Poison in there House or Apartment. I had this problem 6 years ago. I got the Rat Traps that children or dogs can’t get into. Bucket of poison that’s hard green square.
I talked to several of my neighbors and they refused to help with the rat problem I really don’t understand why not.
