Making Trisha happy, donating to charity, and receiving a tax benefit are all very valid justifications for spending $10K on a trip that Jason probably wouldn't usually drop that amount of money on. From what I can tell, he is very frugal with his money because he wants to provide a great future for his children. Trisha has the means to live lavishly and doesn't expect monetary reciprocation for what she enjoys spending on others. She offered to pay for this trip, but Jason declined and surprised her with it instead. I don't understand why people are trying to tear down this moment for them.

It’s sad that very few people in Trisha’s life have treated her kindly. It’s sad that she’s so shocked that someone who is supposed to love her, does something so thoughtful.
