The Mayor has spent time among the working class and poor and were in those areas so he may be young but he is not your typical ignorant white man , in fact people like him and JP Smith are just people not white , in their case the saying of white is the content of your character not the colour of your skin" applies
The content of Geordin Hill-Lewis and JP Smith character are not white and in Cape Town we are lucky to have people like them , who genuinely cares about the poor and most disadvantaged, after elections they put politics aside and focus on the work of making things better for everyone.
I wish to take this opportunity and thank JP Smith and his team who worked hard for years making areas safer.
If anyone who reads this come across JP Smith please note he might be reserved but he is the hardest working politician or public representative I have ever come across and he doesnt do things for credit or esteem but because he cares , Both these men are not into media posturing they only speak out when they have to
    U get jawbones and backbones
JP Smith and Geordin Hill-Lewis are backbones and are totally pro poor its not rhetoric 4 them its reality
I wish more politicians were like them and I hope these two men become National Ministers in future , Our country will benefit
Coming from me its high praise , which they deserve I met them years ago and watched them work and how they relate to people on grassroots level and it can be described with one word.
    SINCERE

I congratulate our CT Mayor and all other institutions helping where they can. Yes, as one person pointed out this is a reaccuring problem in winter months especially in townships. I do not know what will change when many new people migrate to the Cape seeking employment. I don't think much can change overnight but better planning for future housing is imperative. Easier said than done. But to those who are trying their best to help should at least be thanked.

They will say we do nothing for the poor areas but the poor areas are more effected because they build illegally and then the ANC never helped improve infrastructure anything like they promised. But okes will still blame the DA.

Allowing people to build informal structures in dodgy areas is the reason behind such huge losses. I feel for those affected but this will never stop as long as people are allowed to erect dwellings wherever and however.

People are not "allowed" to build in flood plains - - THEY choose to build anywhere and, when stopped, they shout racism. When they are flooded they shout racism. When they lose their informal structures they shout racism. The "other parties" blame the DA for the rain - - play the blame game and yet, where they do have 'influence' they only criticise and find fault and blame and DO nothing. They City IS guilty of allowing canals and river courses to fall into disrepair and do not do any preventative maintenance - - example is Amazon head quarters on a flood plain !!!

The importance of adhering to floodlines, which are boundaries that indicate areas at risk of flooding. Ensuring that developments and activities comply with floodlines is crucial for safety and environmental reasons. Proper adherence helps mitigate flood risks, protect properties, and preserve natural floodplains.

The question Mr Mayor is , in the Bluedowns Area you have RDP homes that are completed. You will now say that there is a housing list, I see your efforts and appreciate that, but when will government come to the party and take the housing list and fill these empty homes. I have seen these houses stand empty for two years. So why build these houses if it is not going to be signed off to people waiting on homes, this would go a long way in people being forced to live in the informal settlements. Floods=sickness=strain on hospitals and the vicious circle just continue, you are doing your best and doing damage control but what is the root causes and how and when will Government and especially the President address this or will the cycle repeat itself in 2025
