Diabolical Russian hackers have struck again. This time, they’ve targeted a $450 billion company: none other than Tesla, the infamous Elon Musk-led automaker. In August of 2020, one American-based employee was faced with a crucial decision: cripple his company’s financials in exchange for $1 million or rat out the cybercrooks to the FBI. What would you do? Would you betray your company with destructive malware in exchange for a suitcase full of cash?
The hack threatened far more than financial losses: the hackers could've stolen Elon Musk’s valuable trade secrets, and even infiltrated the cars’ autopilot system, causing utter chaos on the roads. I see a lot of people talking about compensating the inside worker for remaining loyal to tesla. I also see a lot of people saying the inside worker should not be compensated, because it was the right thing to do. Here's what I believe, It would be very unwise of tesla to NOT compensate this man. Cyberattacks like this are never going to stop, and someone is always going to get a bribe. If Elon provides more money in compensation to the inside man then the hacker had offered, no one at tesla would ever consider going through with something like that ever again, because they know they would make more money staying loyal, than helping the hackers.
