Bought one in 308 earlier this year. Almost finished working up a load for it now. Really nice rifle, crisp trigger, and under 6lbs completely setup with 3 shells a vx freedom 3-9 Talley rings and sling! Kid you not under 6lbs legitimately ready to hunt. Oh ya and it shoots good too! Worth every single penny

@@sethgriffin6014I gave $980 for the rifle, $45 for warne rings, $260 for vortex diamondback.
      So $1300 ish.
But it’s soooo light and it does one inch at a hundred yards, off a bipod. Be warned that the .308 kicks really damn hard, input a muzl brake on and recoil is reduced by half or more.

I just ordered the barreled action. The most consistent complaint is about the stock and bottom metal (plastic). Unfortunately, there isn't another stock maker other than Stocky's for this hybrid action. Seems like some folks have good luck, and others have a lot of flyers and groups that open up until they correct the stock at the action screws and bed that area. Also, there are finally companies making aluminum bottom metal for this so you can actually torque the action screws to proper specs without cracking the plastic.
I think if you go into it knowing that you will very likely need to do some sanding and fitting to the action, and likely do a quick action screw and recoil lug bedding, then it will work well. Particularly with good bottom metal.

Now, if only Howa would continue this short action rifle in the 6.5 PRC and the 6.8 Western. I'd pick one up immediately. I hunt a lot of steep terrain, and the canyons have an average gap that ranges 400-600 yards across. It's the wind that funnels up these canyons is where these two high BC short action cartridges would shine, especially in a light weight rifle. Howa, are you listening?

I sort of wish I’d waited for the .243 or 7mm-08. .308 is fine and all but it really kicks hard in a 4lb 10 oz rifle. That 6.5 is starting to look good too.

    No cheek piece, no deal.
I just bought a brand new Howa 1500 30/06 walnut stock with the cheek piece and I couldn't be more happy with it.
Put a 3x9x40 vortex dot scope on it and the cheek weld and balance of this rig is exceptional.

I have the very first Superlite that was shipped a few months ago , from the first shipment of 7mm08 caliber. Not a very well known fact Howa does offer these with a nice Turkish Walnut stock at a reduced price for approximately $300 reduced price over the Stockys Carbon fiber stock! This does add approximately 1/2 pound -5/8 lb to the weight of the gun. Mine weights 5lb 2oz with Walnut stock. Scoped up with a Zeiss Conquest it is still about same weight as a model 94 Winchester with open sights!! Very nice rifle especially good crisp 3.25lb triggers! Nothing not to like about this extremely light well made rifle! 😊

@Simon-talks I've got more dam guns than fort Knox. I'm always reloading for them damn things and the only 2 reasons that I can think of for not having enough ammo is if you're on fire or drowning from the weight. My rifles have been fine tuned because it only takes about 60 rounds to smooth out these barrels.
After that, I reload that fireformed brass, which results in accuracy way under the one minute of angle.
I ain't happy till that there gun is poking out a single jagged hole at 100 yards. Only have 2 that's in no need of reloading due to accuracy concerns. One is a Howa model 1500 243. It doesn't care if it's a Remington or winchester 100 grain softpoint. This gun is one in a million. The other is a Ruger American 308 and it loves the 180 grain winchester power points.
I always let them barrels cool off for 15 minutes between shots to let them barrels retract from the heat.
This is the hardest part of accuracy testing, but it sure gives me all the confidence in the world when I am hunting. This is the only way to get a true reading from a cold bore shot.
