If he doesn't already, Takis may need to look into having every visitor sign a waiver document, to protect him in the event another idiot touches a dog after he has warned them not to.
I am staggered at the stupidity and self absorption of some humans and totally understand Takis' anger. He has given his life and everything he has to the shelter, which does very important work for needy animals. That some humans are actively sabotaging that work is an utter disgrace. Takis owes no apology to anyone for defending 'Takis Shelter', the animals must be his number one priority. Anyone who fails to recognise and respect that is not someone he wants around his vulnerable animals!

To manage perfectly a huge shelter is a great responsability, for just one man, especialy for Takis so conscious, respectful and loyal! As he says he is more disappointed with humans than animals, bad adopters, impolite visitors and a volunter disobedient! The worst for Takis afraid of an accident, driving drunk, partying by night, it's not correct at all! He doesn't deserves so many worries, poor Takis, he must feels so alone sometimes and tired! Happily Grioula, his guardian angel, is still there to give him courage and strength!

As far as the immature and selfish fake volunteers is concern, shelters are not free hostels. Volunteers are there to help with menial tasks and help socialize the animals. Can you imagine having to be nurse maid to adults besides keeping track of hundreds of animals in the shelter, plus the many that are in foster care or already adopted? (Il y en a qui ont du culot!)

For people to pretend to be volunteers and act as vacationers is so fraudulent and disrespectful. ANY Serious volunteer can plainly see this is only a place for HONEST, HARD WORKING volunteers. Takis, make the visitors fill in a form or something - this includes not petting certain dogs and cats. The tourists won't want to do that. The world IS getting crazy. We are grateful for all your work. I would love to volunteer but I know I can't. So I donate. Have a curfew/rules for the volunteers. Incredibly disrespectful to you and your animals. Great points. I just wrote something similar also. And he needs to let them sign the document, both visitors and volunteers. That way he is completely protected and they cannot say: I didn't know. Takis is is right, when he always says, that he wants to stay away from people.Such a shame. Your, respectfully, is a bad advice. I went to Crete in June last for 3 days to visit the shelter only. I did not go to adopt, as I already have dogs, but to verify that Takis is 100% legit. I can confirm now, having seen it by my eyes, that he is legit and that his shelter is fantastic, given the number of dogs. We were visitors coming from all around the world, and I can also confirm that we all gave substantial donations to the shelter. Therefore, visitors are the best promoters of Takis'image and a huge financial help for the shelter

@user-xn8pd2re3n I respect and have trust in Takis. And obviously whatever his decision would be in this respect it will be the best one in the given circumstances as he knows better than anyone. However, I repeatedly have heard Takis praising the visitors in his videos, pointing out that visitors help in improving dogs' socialisation and, therefore, the chances to be adopted and the same was told by him to my group of attendees in June last.
@@ireneperseverance1413 that's what i meant in my answer: there are more reasons, like witnessing, donations etc. but of course as he gets more and more known there might be visitors who just want to go there to say later: i have been to the famous shelter. so then it is a tourist thing that is coming up and didn't exist before but takis has to realize the changes and take care. he said a few times in the video: things have really changed the last one or two years. all of a sudden. it is sad but he has to think how he can keep up the good sides and protect the shelter from damage on the other side. the more well known the shelter gets the more security issues will come up. with fame come advantages but also new challenges. i hope they will cope well with everything. it is not an easy thing but Takis was a businessman before and i hope in the end his experiences there will help him.

In the jutta shelter the dog adopted was taken to the vet and euthanized without the rescue shelter even being informed, so heartbreaking so yes strict practices need to be in place for people who adopts these animals.

Charge this tourist 200 dollars each to see the shelter as their destination of tour. Make it harder for them to come. If they’re not there to adopt they don’t need to see. They’re taking away your time of looking after your shelter and spending it on them . Everyone who comes needs to sign a disclosure agreement that whatever happened during their visits is their responsibility and blame is their own. Sometimes people lacks brain and when its working sometimes it’s running on stale water.
You need people helping not causing problems.
I think Takis should start charging an adoption fee. Many shelters around the world do the same.
I don't blame you for being angry. You are right. DO NOT ALLOW VOLUNTEERS TO USE YOUR VEHICLES: an accident and you are responsible for death, or injuries. GET STRICT, GET SMART, people take advantage of people who are TOO NICE. Protect your dogs, your shelter.
Yes - definitely not allow them to use his vehicles. He would be responsible plus the loss due to an accident would cost him more, and take money away from the daily needs of the animals. He doesn’t need the hassles from any irresponsible “volunteers.”

Dont apologize for speaking the truth
When people get there you need to go into school teacher mode. Sit them down, explain the rules, and tell them the consequences that may occur if the rules are not followed. All before anyone sets foot in your shelter.
Takis can I suggest getting a manager to work as an intermediary so you can just concentrate on the dogs. You don't need the extra hassle and wasted time of dealing with it yourself. 🤔

If you go online to visit the Shelter it is by appointment. They take about 10 to 12 ppl each time. I made appt for every day online and got confirmation. It tells you online how many spaces are left for appointment. The ppl meet at Lido Market in Lerapetra. When I was there over a year ago there was a guy who meets you at Lido and you go as a group, either in his van or follow behind. It was Markos at the time. Takis may have someone else seeing it was a while back when I went. And plan to go again. I plan on making appt for every day that I am there as long as the quota for that day isn't filled.
He needs visitors to get adopters.
Once a month would greatly reduce the number of adoptions. Tourists don't stay that long on Crete, mostly a week or so. Twice a week would be more like it. But as long as people behave and follow the rules they have signed, there shouldn't be a problem. Liability for accidents like the bite should be excluded if people don't follow the instructions!
Actually serious dog people will understand the need for strict rules...very saddened to hear about use and abuse if shelter by volunteers using it as a hotel😭

Visitors need to realize that if TakIs says "leave those animals alone", he has a sound reason to say that. His entire life revolves around the shelter and rescue. He knows the animals at the shelter better than someone who drops in from wherever for a brief visit.
If a person agrees to volunteer somewhere, treat it the same way as a paid job.
