The extraordinary Eva Cassidy with the delicious orchestra. Have all her CDs and several of her paintings. Beautiful singer and painter gone way way too soon. And yes her song I Can Only Be Me hits me in the soul and ❤. Love her.

I always say there is only one time to experience something once. I am ever astounded that I can hear every word she sings, and it goes straight to my soul. I have both a singing and orchestral background, so hearing the LSO so expertly intertwined is a beautiful thing which adds layers. It's an amazing accomplishment to have an orchestra play, yet not overpower Eva, whose voice is as pure and strong and subtle and on point as anyone's ever was. I wish to thank her family for so generously uploading her music, for sharing her talent and beauty with us, wherever we are.
Her loss is so profound, and I am so sorry I never saw her perform locally, but thank you to the modern studio gurus for bringing her voice together with the London Symphony Orchestra. We will always have Eva, despite her being gone.

Why the big orchestra? This magnificent, musician - this superb lady and her guitar are awesome without the overpowering big orchestra. She is such a beautiful human being and offers the person who is listening to her needs to just enjoy the gift she is offering and allow the love and the golden warmth that her music is all about to transport them to a magical place.
I understand your reaction. Been there. But then I started thinking ; Why not create an extra version to the original ? Eva herself was too shy to perform with an Orchestra like this. This is the dreamed up version, complimenting her amazing voice... I bet she's smiling in heaven hearing this. Thinking "Wow that's ME" ! 🌟 🌈
I hate to say this but I’m not on board with this treatment of the song. Don’t get me wrong; the orchestra is beautiful. But, in the “original” version, there is Eva-as-choir, arguably the most important element of the song that grabs your soul and propels it to the universe. The song I want to hear as I draw my last breath. I think the Eva-as-choir should have been included. It’s central. Perhaps an actual choir could theoretically pull off something worthy but even then it would have to include Eva’s own backup vocals. It’s sacred territory, imho.

Eva Cassidy in a version of her own song where her own instrumental accompaniment was deemed inadequate by the LSO, who then heroically stripped her voice clean and replanted it in a ham fisted redo they think is better than the original. They are wrong! You can't inprove Eva without her help and she isn't giving any these days. Don't mess with success.

But here we are over 25 years after her death and her family probably had some say on what was worthy of release. Will it reach more people? Probably. She deserves a wider audience.

I discovered Eva Cassidy in 2000, at that time I was in a difficult time going through a separation and divorce after 27 yrs. Music is calming.
