- Took a drive to the salmon river in pulaski New York. The salmon were just starting to move through the DSR. I wasnt sure if I was actually going to see any salmon moving up the run but that opinion faded quickly. I saw a lot of king salmon (chinook salmon) moving and a few brown trout. I did not see any coho moving yet. I was fortunate to hook on my first king salmon of the year on the salmon. I also met some really great people on this trip and met a subscriber, which I helped get him on his first salmon ever. The salmon river is coming back to life with fish and pulaski is starting to get busy yet again. Salmon deason is upon us!!!!
We loved helping you! My boys absolutely loved it and my oldest Seamus hasn't stopped talking about you and that day!!! My fiancee and my daughters and my son's lived it and can't wait to go fishing again!!!!!!

I don’t live very far from Palaski…About 60 miles south. I have fly fished for stream trout my entire life. But in all that time I’ve never gone after the big boys “Salmon-Steelhead”. Why, I couldn’t tell ya. Well, this year, I finally decided to GO FOR IT. Bought some new gear that can handle those monsters, and I’ll be hitting that river very soon. Really looking forward to the new experience. Wish me luck!!

He's been at the same camp for all 40 !! Its called catfish creek

Going up to Pulaski in a couple weeks looking for my first salmon. These videos are really giving me some positivity. I hooked into one no eater years ago but the locals casted over my line and I lost it. Every since then I’ve been dreaming of the day I catch one. Hopefully this is the year. What do you think of a phfluger reel ?
Best of luck to you brother but we gotta pray for rain its bad on the river now water levels are way low. Thats a great reel man. I personally use a cheap ugly atick setup because ive seen these salmon wreck some expensive gear. Just remember to play the fiah right and make sure that drag is set low. I'm going up for my first time this year, and I can't believe the smaller gear and ability to catch these monsters on nothing but an ORANGE SPONGE. Crazy. I'll be there from October 2nd - 9th. Tight lines my dude and thanks for the info.
Glad that ypu found the video helpful! If ur gonna be there in october they will probable be more line shine so if you see them avoiding your line sometimes you gotta go down to 6lb test for the leader. Good luck out on the river!

Fill that bag up man.... i like to use the vanish line. It works well but by all means go for your favorite as you see fit. I also have another video that you might find useful about the setup i use on the river if you get bored.

Me too... Most of the angry ones accuse everybody of snagging because they can't catch them. Jag is at least honest about it. Will salmon bite? Hell yes they will... But it sure gets tough after the Russians have been throwing treble hooks with a pound of lead on the line... Doubt they are doing it?? Go to the Ballpark this morning or Monday. They don't even try to hide it. King Kuomo should send all of the DEC in there and throw them all in jail til they pay up.

How can you call it that guys first salmon when it was snagged? A first salmon is and should be caught in the mouth (hooked from the inside out), legally. Learn how to centerpin with egg sacs, skein, flies, beads, etc. and feel a real bite from a salmon rather than flossing them with a piece of sponge. 👍

A while back I hired a charter boat in the area to fish for salmon and and lake trout in August before they started their run. They fight much harder in the lake and they are bright silver.

Very nice! I was there Sat and had no luck. Next time gotta go to DSR. I had 25lb fluorocarbon leader guess maybe that was my mistake. Next time 20 and 12lb and maybe better luck
I would not go anymore than 15 main and 12 leader.... and thats heavy. Now with shallow and clear water id even go down to a 8-10 leader to be honest

Hi I’m heading up tomorrow with my son and girlfriend, where would you recommend going and where are you in the video?We all like to spin fish. Last year was our first time and we went to the Town Pool and Black Hole. I hooked into 1 but lost it. It was a great experience to say the least. I’ve been hearing the fishing is a little slow due to the lack of rain but we are heading up anyway. Just trying to hit the right spots. Thanks again and great video!
Its extremely slow, we need water desperately. I would stick to the lower section for sure. If you are already familiar with the black hole id probably head there

The more you go the more you learn. I recomend using a longer pole...8-9 feet for a more gradual bend on the line. You will also land more fish. Also, a piece of advice, you shouldn't use sponge that's a dead snaggers giveaway. Plastic eggs or flies gives you a chance at them aggressively striking it. Good times!

How heavy was your main line and leader?
My main is 17lb yozuri. Leader will vary on water conditions and spot im fishing. Anywhere from 6-12lb. I try to stay around 8 if i can.

Id go 6 if its slower clear moving water. If im fishing rapids or water clarity is on the dirty side ill move up to 12. Essentially its because these fish are so line shy

Any issues with you losing fish with 12 lb leader those are some strong fish. Also some advice do not ever handle a. Fish without gloves These fish can get hooked several times and will have hooks or flies on them
It depends on how you play with em. Sometimes they take off like a train and you dont stand a chance but ive also caught them on 8lb leader before in clear water because they see that line

Jag Fishing I was there from dusk to dawn yesterday with no luck. Do you have any tips or other spots to try? I tried out the ball park, staircase, town pool, trestle pool and one other to no avail
Those are all places i fish too. I literally just do my best to stay on top of the reports and try to figure out where they are. They have to go through every inch of that river so in my opinion a bad spot today can be the best spot tomorrow. You just never know

Flossing isn’t snaging because if you sang the salmon you have to let go of the salmon and when you floss salmon in the mouth you can keepm witch means FLOSSING ISN’T SNAGING.

You have to look at the reports. Each year is a little different. Usually late september - october is the best
