Lake Charles Resident here! For all the Florida newbies, it’s best to be prepared than to be scared. I get that it’s scary but the most you can do is remain positive and safe! We were slammed 3 yrs ago today and although it was scary and the recovery effort was a little tough. But we got through it and you will too!

I’ve been watching these storms since about 1970. I agree with almost every point you made. If Franklin speeds up, it could help Idalia speed up which can dampen storm effects a bit. The moon is the wild card. We know more tomorrow. I’m in the Keys. Thanks for all you do Jack.

Ill be in Orlando in 8 weeks. From last year i remember seeing some minor flooding here and there (mainly at nature preserves) sould be interesting to see how this one pans out.
I always worry about the 64 yr old hippo, Lu, in the Homosassa wildlife park right on the river. That's north of Tampa.

Chasin this lovely thing in my car, its gonna be wild, ive been watching and predicting these storms for nearly a decade now, same as you, thinking its going to to hit inglis to cedar key or south from the occluded trough as a 3, gonna be intense.
I remember after one storm one year you all were surfing on the flooded streets

This is when you start to prepare for the worst collect certain items needed, board up your resadaince, and buy or pre run your generator, get fresh gas, water and caned goods and look to maybe take a road trip depending on the "strike" location. I have been through to many hurricanes and typhoons in my life. With the possibly of lots of water, water damage lots of trees down and other major damage, "No Power" lots of "Heat @ Humidity which can take a major toll on you really fast. I have found in stead of staying in the storm area and dealing with all the stress which you will have no control over its beter to just leave the path and be in a stable area and return to the area of any damage at the appropriate time and look to rebuild any possible damage. .
Plus we will get the rough side of the hurricane!!@
