Those who've played in many bands know there can be a lot worse band practices than this one....
There's the kind where you literally just sit around for multiple sessions and don't do shit
The one dude who doesn't have a clear role yet just chilling on his phone, the guitarist and the drummer actually trying to do something and then someone else is just playing their favorite riffs so load that they don't hear everyone else yelling at them to turn the gain down.
As a bass player i can say this is what happens when you don't invite bass players into band practice.
True, haha. My band wouldn't even start a practice without me as a bassist player. My guitarist is an awesome player, but he really needs the bass as rhythm.
@@nuke2625 agree. And it's can say that i'am the frontman of the band.
as a Bassist myself I find it funny when my Guitarists get lost somewhere in a song and look at me and be like "bro what chord you playing lemme see"

I laughed way harder than I should have. the flying drumstick killed me
I think it’s hilarious! I hope the drummer checks out Carl Palmer from ELP. Someone to aspire to.
The fact they all agreed to start over makes this a good band practice
I love how they didn't even notice the drummer lost a stick. They're just used to it sounding like shit lmao
It's a sub-40-second video from 15 years ago. Of course it's legendary.
i wish i had a band no matter how good or bad we sounded 😢
I did try to join a band on my graduation year in 2014. But I never played any bass. Just tuba.
You're still young, start a band! How to do it:
Practice.
Play a backyard party.
Practice.
Make a demo.
Practice.
Book a show...
That's it!

This band has the potential of being pretty good. All these guys need to do is make a few adjustments. With a different singer, guitarist, and drummer, these guys could really improve
Did anyone else notice that the practice is in a kindergarten classroom?
They sounded pretty good for a few seconds, and didn't argue about starting over. If you've ever been in a garage band you wouldn't think this practice was terrible.
Not even heroin can save this band.
+xero spacious Probably can! But they wouldn't make it mainstream anytime soon. Very far out, obviously. I do see a potential Marilyn Manson here
As a drummer I can say, we're always the reason you have to start the song over again.
Well if the drums stop then the life of the music stops... killing it pretty much instantly. We are quite valuable us drummers!! Not enough to go around it seems. I took it up just so we could have a drummer as I also played guitar. Now I am always condemned to be behind the kit man I really miss playing guitar for real!
agreed and I'm in a goddamn prog metal band lmao the guitarist programs the most inhuman shit and I just figure out a way to make it work irl

@@IMN602 The same thing happened to me. Sentenced to play the drums while only self taught :/ but it's alright I guess.
Bass can replace drums until they catch back on. If the bass is gone too, a good rhythm guitarist can usually hold it (especially if they’re singing). If everything fails, it’s acapella time and we’ll try again on the next song.
Keep at it, boys. Every single band goes through this. Practice makes perfect. Pursue the dream.

I can imagine this band on their world tour and in the middle of some huge show the song stops and the drummer goes "Time out, I lost my drum stick." Hilarious!!!
They're in practice. Yea of you were on tour you'd still need a new drumstick and someone would have to bring it to you or you would be fucked. Your short mindedness is more hilarious.

Honestly just give the guitarist a pick, give the vocalist a mic, get the drummer and guitarist to synchronize, and tape the sticks to the drummers hands, and they'll be good to go.
The guitarist has a pick. If you watch he has it between his index and middle finger then after the opening he transfers it to his thumb and index finger

there's definitely worse.. I can see a future here
This is somehow strangely nostalgic for me
Getting three people together to agree on a song is a nearly impossible endeavor
If I could travel back in time and give myself advice, it would probably be "consider it a miracle if you can ever get more than 4 people to so much as show up to a place at the same time"
Parties were never a pain in the ass for me because they didn't want to show up or hang with me, it was always just stupid bullshit making friends unavailable, and them just flat out sucking at arriving somewhere within a given time frame.
Edit: OK there's a LOT more advice I would give younger me, but that's one legitimate piece that I've had in the back of my mind for the longest time(and the only one relevant to your comment)
I got that beat. 3 weeks after I got my first guitar, my bass player buddy (who had years experience) wanted to start a band. I told him no. I hadn't even learned my first chord yet. But he badgered me and insisted. Like a young, impressionable kid I finally agreed. At our first practice I fumbled through a bunch of power chords and just as I thought I was getting the hang of those, they decided they wanted me to sing, too. I protested, but they hit me with the peer pressure and I finally said okay.
They setup a gig for that very weekend........... less than a week after our very first practice. We did the gig, it went about as bad as you'd expect, and then the band RIDICULED THE SH*T out of me. "You're awful. Why are you even here? Jesus you suck. You ruined the whole thing. You are out of the band!"
Quickly I realized that might have been their plan all along. They cooked the whole thing up just to embarrass me.
THAT is the worst band practice ever.
outch, good that you really tried and stood there to sing. Big balls. I guess these are the things you gotta learn lol... I hope those tards learned their lesson :s Cant imagine that people invest such a load of effort just to ridicule someone. teenagers are animas lol

They, for some reason, think I'm just as bad now, 6 years of experience later, as I was then.
They laugh and give me a bunch of crap, "you here for the comic relief? Go home."

I’m actually really sorry that happened to you, stranger. Hope it didn’t fuck with you too much.
It’s a tale as old as time. The drummer fucks it up.
The thumbnail reeled me in. The video did not disappoint
My first band practice, I was drowning the singer real bad with the drums so I boosted the volume of the mic so high that there was an insane feedback it was so intense the owner of the space came in to ask us if we were okay. Also, when the singer asked me to "put it down", I put the microphone on the floor. Today I'm a pro sound engineer :)
Lol the first band practice I have ever had we hadn't an amp for the bass nor for the mic so we plugged them both in a Marshall for guitar. Unsurprisingly we fried it
That’s awesome! What did it take to become a sound engineer? When I was aptitude tested down in Atlanta, I scored 99% on the pitch discrimination(which means I can literally hear any change in noise or pitches) test and always wanted to do something with it
You know you grew up in the 90s-2000s when you like this song already and that melody gives you a nostalgic feeling
The guy who said “start over”, did it with such elegance and gesture that you could feel the class right there, it’s almost as if he was no less than Paul McCartney, what a professionalism in his craft, he is all in, fully committed!
Such a poor performance by the drummer will not be tolerated in here! - you can read it in his eyes.
For about 4 solid seconds, it actually sounded really good.
Edit: Apparently, I just started a war .
Drummer here, been to more band practices than I can count. The trick to solving the dropping the stick problem is actually not “don’t drop the stick” but to have a big bag of sticks within reach to grab and not miss a beat.
I keep a couple sticks on top of the kick drum. I'm missing some fingers and half my thumb from an accident so my hand cramps up a lot from trying not to drop the sticks - I've started using grip on the sticks and it is working out pretty well , no more cramps or dropped sticks
Drumstick here, been dropped more times than I can count and this guy is telling the truth
Also important for playing live. I dropped a stock during my drum cover of "you spin me right round" toward the end and I finished the song using my instincts with one hand
This is amazing. The camp singer, the interesting guitarist and drummer make this a great rehearsal
The guitarists face from 00 - 0:04. What a range of weird emotions and facial expressions 😅
There's definitely potential, the singer seemed to have a pretty good melody and the drummer and guitarist just need to work on syncopation. DONT GIVE UP!
Just being able to gather in the same room together at the same time doesn't mean they have potential.
Gentlemen, I can safely say, from the vantage point of having been in a few bands over the decades, that I have heard MUCH worse than this. Keep going, keep playing, keep practicing, keep learning, and at some point you'll post a video on CZcams that will have people saying, "That ROCKS."
Gotta second this. Everybody who says this sucks I’m thinking.. this is actually decent garage alt. Relatively speaking. Ppl are so used to professional production these days that they wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between bad and fair, ya know?
i don’t know why this showed up in my feed but it’s adorable
16 years ago just threw me into an existential crisis
Technique level 1000: the guitarist plays the first chords with his thumb, holding his pick with the index and middle finger, and then proceeds to play the rest with the pick. Perfect switch in dynamics. The drummer is fucking awesome with his stick tricks, and the singer...that's a hell of a high ass falsetto. Mad props to the boys.
@@jesse107 i almost forgot to mention how precise and in the groove the bassist is, he serves the song so well you don't even notice his existence , finally a bassist who does the job right
I only play with my thumb and I can shred. Idk why its just how I learned and I like the softer sound. Plus it makes sweep picking super easy, but you can only do it with a downstroke 💀.
I can play with a pick but choose not to, I have more control over the sound of the strings with my thumb.
I really liked the bands earlier work in the first 10 seconds of the video but their career in the last 24 seconds of video really went down hill. I would like to have seen them live when they were first starting out. They were def underrated and should have been more well known. I do hope they tour again, at least for the die hard fans.
These has-beens sold out in the last 12 seconds of the video, and their hard partying and drug use really caught up to them by the last 6 seconds
Yeah the new stuff always drifts from the source spirit. But that stinted 'bing boooowwww.' Was revolutionary to the guitar world we gotta at least give them credit for that.
0:00 I like their early bootleg stuff. "Come On Drummer" is still a banger to this day
I don't want to start to imagine what my life would be if CZcams didn't recommend this vid to me after 15 years!😌🙏
I can attest that this is far from being the worse band rehearsal ever. The best thing about my band in the early 2000s is that all our recordings are saved on a Zip drive, within reach but forever locked away.
No hate to drummers. My drummer does that too and I find it hilarious, not failing. At least have another pair so you don't have to get up
They rocked the fuck out of that first grade room
I dont know if you have kept doing this but this was fire start anyway. I would not even know how to handle instruments or vocal tones. Start over indeed
Man 2008 seems like an eternity ago now
If you’re in a band where everyone isn’t playing their own random thing and just gets right into it then that’s already an amazing rehearsal

The algorithm likes to push old videos after so long
This is pretty civil if I’m being honest. I’ve had practices where band members are throwing their amps at each other whilst screaming.
You mean that is not normal? LOL! Yeah, practices from hell are more common than people might think.
Yes! Civil is a good word to describe this and maybe wholesome? IF a drummer would try to restart a song because of a lost drumstick, there will be hell to pay... And yes another classic is throwing guitars at bandmates or guitar players cutting their strings in anger because their shitty equipment can't stay in tune, adding tension to the room ;D
Vocalists refusing to be wrong when they very much are and just should admit it. Or bandmates just playing (usually a guitarist) what comes to mind between songs, which will be followed by alot of bandmembers screaming in contempt.
Was par for the course at practice. Few drum sticks get flown, a couple of "Alright just play the fucking song!"
Usually par for the course. "Shut the fk up man! Play the fking song. 1, 2, 3, 4 ...." End up nailing it perfectly, harmonies, solos, etc. "yeah, it was pretty good."
They're doing something creative together. That alone makes this practice good enough in my book.
Starts with a horrendous amp buzz, spot on lol
Has the vibes on the mid 2000s

@Shimohira Reika couldn't agree more, i once joined a band that have someone who call himself a "leader" and he always dictate the other member about what and how to play.
And when i get closer with the other member of the band, we decided to form a new band and exclude him.

EXACTLY. You're better off sucking during practice than onstage where performance is evaluated.
This sounds like the start of something good actually, the vocal melody sounds great
@@jimbailey5681 Yeah! That's the motivation here. People don't want to hurt their feelings, so they are saying nice stuff about something that sounds horrible. Sad, but true. lol
@@guitarttimman I’m a musician and can recognise that although it’s rough, there’s potential. And I don’t say that to “protect the feelings” of some people from a 14 year old video, who will never see my comment. I say it because I’ve been there, I know how it goes. Yeah it’s bad to lie and say “this sounds great!” When it doesn’t, but discouraging young/starting musicians isn’t good for “the future of music” either. I (sometimes) like things that sound rough and shitty because it means that despite not having the best skills, they have passion for music and are trying anyway, and I think that’s very cool. Or maybe they’re just having fun and not taking themselves seriously, and it could be a lot worse, but still they’re trying and that’s also cool.
As a rock drummer, I can say rightfully so. This happens an absurd amount during practice, but usually I don’t stand up and end it. I take advantage of my arm length and reach it.
get on my level
Meh. The drummer of band i knew had a drum kit that was a bass drum, the snare and toms were on milk crates, and the cymbals were held up by long wooden dowels that were duct taped into the same milk crates. Bass players amp was a really small practice amp, microphone was ran through a mid sized guitar amp that you could barely hear, and the guitarist couldnt keep his guitar in tune for more than a few seconds cuz the neck was really warped, plus his amp would cut out a lot and sometimes get radio signals.
I've seen bands at the beginning of forming that would sort of start songs randomly with no real beginning, and no real end. Usually the "songs" were played different every time and at different lengths. Nobody really knew where the changes were and there really wasnt much of a structure, vocalist would write new lyrics for the songs every couple of practices and they never got to the point of playing live..
My ears just filed a lawsuit against me.
Sounds about like the first band I was ever in:) I love it.
The electric guitarist playing chords with his thumb did indeed take me back to the early days of band practice just as excellent as this

Thump n pluck gang. Bass tones are so powerful, fuzzed, clean, reverb, modulation? Bass is objectively just as versatile as the guitar. Have I mentioned my love for bass? Well let me tell you that groove is all you need man it just moves you. Ever see a man have a talk while thumping a nice line? You just listen, the rythm drives the speech in a way that focuses the listener like no other. Or an instrumental, a good bassist has the drums, bass, guitar, cello, and good knows what other noises at their disposal to create a complete piece. Bass is all you need.
Drummers are unreliable, crazy, or both. In fact I get the feeling in this video that the guy on drums is actually the bass player filling in for a drummer that didn't show up.
If this is the worst band practice ever, I must be from a different dimension.
This exact practice has been happening daily in bedrooms, basements, and practice spaces across the world for decades.
10 years later they would look back on this as their 2nd greatest practice.
I wish this era would come back
This is video of when bad seed was transitioning into title fight
yes, the comments are right, this seems like a decent band practice. Try one where everyone is high and/drunk, or only two people show up, or everyone shows up and there is a fight, or everyone is late, or it’s late so no drums, or someone brought their girlfriend and it’s distracting or an amp breaks, or the power gets knocked out or the cops come because you’re too loud or everyone keeps playing whatever they want and not focusing. Guess what I’ve had all these band practices :)
Or the bass player turns up pissed and offers everone out then sacks himself.
This is actually still the early stages of a band where people don’t feel pompous and entitled after being told they’re decent, and actually CARE about what they’re doing.
Are you guys famous yet? Would love to hear more 🤣
What? That was good!
Had many of those practices in my early days...trust me when I tell you that it gets better as you go.
Another bit of advice: When you're playing a live show...never stop because of a mistake, keep on going just like you never missed a beat.
If you stop because of a mistake...it makes that mistake that much more noticeable.

This could have been the next Blink or Green Day. and just a heads up Mr drummer man: I've played for years, and even with all the skill in the world, you will always still lose a stick once in awhile and us as drummers are almost always the reason the song gets started over lol.
