Ive been on youtube/google for about 2 hours now and finally found this video. I cant find a good pinout for the main plug on my merc 800. It has a distributor just like this setup. I probed around with 12v and couldnt get any lightning. I DID NOT put 12v to both those poles like you did here.. hopefully my boat motor screams tomorrow. Thank you for this.

Hi Gremlin When I power up (key on) the switch box on motor , I get 12V on red but only approx 0.5V white, is this a problem with the ignition switch or normal ? I have a Mercury tester like yours but it died yesterday doing the coil switch box test , now looking for good replacement. Great I found this video so I can keep going on finding my no spark problem which I believe is distributor related, replaced the trigger for a tested one but still no spark at 1, need to have a good look at the cap, rotor and pin.Old merc I6 fan in Australia :)
1st problem seems like just the starter solenoid. But my ignition key is busted so I did change it, but since then I can't make it run again. You said in this video if I made wrong connection some parts will burn because I don't have fussed, so do you think I did burned it? And if Im to put fuse how much should I put? This is my first motor, merc thunderbolt 500 50 hp serial 2347494. Bought it a month ago thinking it is a quick fix. I m interested in working on it but I am really struggling right now any advice and help would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance

Okay I have a question. I have a Mercury 115hp with the same switch box. I have all the wires hooked up correctly but I’m getting low voltage on the distributor side connection does that mean my switch box is bad?
Yes but it is a very time consuming process. You have to dig out a ton of potting Material to get to the board. It took me days to free the board it the one I did

Great video! What if I hear that spark noise but my starter is not turning over? I've replaced the starter solenoid already and no difference.

I got merc 500 50 hp. I had it running few times but now I believe I don't have spark. Is this the 1st thing to check?
