  • With that soul dancin' beat
    Know just what I mean
    Oh yeah
    Somewhere on a green hill
    Love is waiting there
Singin that sad songs to me
    Show me with the sympathy
I said I'm waiting for the right time,
Like a blue bird out to land.
    Oh and my love
    Is so endless
    It is waiting
    To be free
    Yeah now
Give me that soul dancin beat
[You] know just what I mean
Think you know the fast times,
I wonder where they've gone now,
Where they as good as I make out?
    [I] Wonder what went wrong
Yeah used to be so close then
    Not just make believe
And you know it makes me cry now,
    Before the good times gone
    Hey but in my mind,
    Just like dreams
    And it's longing
    To rebuild now
Now waiting half for this lifetime
    So again we'll be happy
It don't make any sense now to you
    Know just what I mean
The why I'm try to sing a soul song to you
    Babe just what I mean
Just doing that soul dance with me
    Know just what I mean
    Oh yeah
    Somewhere on green hill
    Yeah now
    Love is waiting there
    Oh and my love
    It's so endless
    It's waiting, to be free
Ya now, waiting for that right time
    So again we'll be happy
    Whoah now, yeah
    Yeah, Now now now yeah
    Uh huh uh

I’m 63 and I still haven’t forgiven Paul for splitting my favourite band, and yes I told Paul when I met up with him. I got divorced in 82 , my tears wasn’t for the wife, the jam was my life and still is.

Left, Right And Centre dates from December of '75, which completely blows my mind- it sounds so much like late Jam, early Style Council. Funny that they've kept their pre-punk roots so deeply buried! I don't see what they have to be ashamed of; I find it totally fascinating, there should be an official release of these early archives.
Think there was an early demo of Got By In Time, not sure when it was cut though.

Aha! I was just looking at a book of bizarre '60s guitars and there was Weller's Rick copy: It's a Firstman "Baron", made in Japan circa '67-'69.

Like it. Never heard it before - goes to show you learn something new everyday! 'Jaqueline' by The Coral has a similar vibe.

Recorded May 28th, 1976 at Bob Potter's studio, on one of Joe Meek's old 4-track machines (and Fairchild compressor, more importantly!)
Who is playing piano? The short-lived pianist Bob Gray?
What is that strange Japanese Rickenbacker copy Weller's playing at 2:28? So many questions, so little answers! This is a very cool tune.....

Actually sounds a bit like Thin Lizzy (the only hard rock band I ever liked). Great tune, shame it never got a full production and official release.
