  • The first time I step into Sweden, I was very grateful to friends help picking me up at the Arlanda airport. In this video, I want to help you who wondering how to get to Stockholm city from Arlanda airport. Have a safe trip!

    Options 3-4 would be my preference....I love it when there's a rail connection that goes all the way to/from the airport.

    Very helpful! My very first visit to Stockholm last week and I followed your option #1 by the letter and it worked. So, thank you!
    I may add though, as I later found out, 583 also stops at Sky City/Terminal 5. So if you land at Terminal 5/4, you don’t have to walk all the way to Terminal 2/3.
    I arrived late at night and indoor walkways were all closed, so I had to walk outside and through some dark parking garage… just my personal experience :)

    Hi, thanks for the video! What is the best way to get from Stockholm Arlanda airport to the KI Solna campus? Do I need to go to the city centre first or is there a direct bus?

      The best (read: cheapest) from my opinion is option #1 on this video then you stop at Stockholm Odenplan instead of city. Then you take a bus (#53) to Karolinska Institutet. You can also check all the trip options by downloading the SL app and type your destination there. Good luck with your trip!

    Hi! When you buy the bus ticket at the app, you show it to the bus driver or you need to validate it at the machines inside the bus? And then when you get in the train do you need to validate it again? Thanks so much! I'm travelling there in just a few days!

      Hi Elise,
      whenever you enter a bus or the train station you have to validate your ticket at the machines. Your ticket is normally valid for a certain time period, within which you will not be charged a second time.

    Option 1 shows travel by bus/train and then option 4 shows travel by train at a higher cost. What’s the difference between the trains in option 1 & 2. Great video by the way.

      Different train. The cheaper one is public SL (Stockholm lokaltrafiken). The more expensive one is private company (Arlanda express).

    Thank youuu! 🙏🏼 I was wondering if you can recommend a trustee taxi company because my flight arrives almost at midnight 😅 I’ve been told sveriges yellow taxis are not good 😖 is there like a company I can pre book or will I always find taxis even if the flight arrives that late? 😅 Thank you for the info again!

      Hej! In principle, there should be taxis in the taxi station of the airport. Another trustful company if you want to prebook is Taxi Stockholm (www.taxistockholm.se/en/) and they also operate in the airport. /Claudia

    hey, thanks for this video! it's super informative for new students! I was wondering that whether it is possible to get a student discount as a newly admitted student. Since we do not have a student badge or whatsoever.

      Yes. If you have received your student email account, you can register to Mecenat app with that mail. Then, if that's approved you will be able to get student digital card. That's your pass for all discounts in Sweden!

      You can take your luggage with the public transport, if it is what you are asking :)

      The website tells you can have 24 journeys pass. But no monthly subs.

      No. You can use it for 72hours using any SL transportation mode. Except going to Knivsta, Arlanda, Uppsala where you need extra ticket (UL).

      Yes, you can buy tickets directly at the ticket counter using your home country Mastercard or Visa bank card. It's very convenient. The other ticket machine also work using your bank card. 😊

      Yes as long as you are not taking the pendeltarg all other public transport is covered in the 72 h ticket

    I don't understand the first option. When we buy a ticket from Arlanda to Märsta Station, so is it possible that the ticket we just bought also covers the travel by train to the center? We don't have to buy another ticket from Märsta Station to the Stockholm center? Please answer me because I'm going to Stockholm in a few days and I need to get from Arlanda to the center. Btw.       The single ticket of SL lasts for 1h15min and it's enough to cover the travel Airport-Märsta Station and Märsta Station-Stockholm center. Have a safe journey! :) /Clàudia

      Good question! Its best for you to seek information on the interrail or swedish train website, as we are not familiar with this as students living in Stockholm :)

      Interrail is covered on Arlanda express and SJ intercity, on the latter one you have to make a seat reservation (30-60sek). Mälartåg and SL Pendeltåg are not included

    Hi, I am new and going to visit Stockholm for one day. How would I know that which mode of transportations I can use if I take 24 Hours' SL ticket?
    And what is the besy way to track buses and trains in Stockholm? I would like to go to the city hall and nearby places then would go back to my accomodation nearby airport.

      Hi Muhammad, you can use all public transport in Stockholm that has the SL logo, basically all busses, metro and commuter train (pendeltag). For tracking i would either use google maps or the SL app:)

    With option 1, can you just bord any train from Marsta going to Stockholm centre. How will you know if the ticket is valid?

      Yes you can pay in cash in Arlanda at arrival hall. Or you can also use your country's bank card (VISA or Mastercard) in Sweden.

      Yes. You can check the price for how much cash you need in SEK or EURO. Imho, it's more convenient to do cashless. You can buy it in Presbyrån or ticket counters.

      Yes it is possible. You only have to beware that you have to pay an extra fee for going to the airport on top of the regular SL ticket

    Quick question :) would it be possible if I buy a 24 hour ticket ans use the first method to travel to the city center and back ? I have a layover of 18 hours so I thought I will use the first option and save some money too :)

      Getting off at the airport when you at travelling by train will cost you additionally even with a 24h ticket.

      So I will probably need 2 single tickets (from airport to city center and city center back to airport) plus a 24 hour ticket to travel around the city. It should all still cost around 21€ right ?

    If I pay directly from my bank card for the bus from Märsta to Märsta station, then I have to go by train or SJ then do I have to pay again. And including when I'm coming back like if within 75 min so will I have to pay again

      To my knowledge paying with credit card is equal to purchasing a single ride ticket so the same conditions apply. Therefore, you won't be charged for consecutive rides. DA Yan
