I still can't believe Macklemore won best rap album over this
honestly, i am not that mad at thaat. bc it was some progressive moments and thrift shop.
how tf did taylor swift win over TPAB though?
Arguably the most controversial decision in Hip-Hop. Like, who votes for these things? Did they actually even give it a listen before voting? Gets me mad
Macklemore couldn't either lol
GKMC is 1000x better than Macklemore’s shit. However Macklemore sold more albums independently and had 2 of the biggest singles of that year so you honestly shouldn’t be surprised. Grammies is all about politics, not musical quality
Ummm did you hear Thrift Shop?!? Of course it did
I wish I could listen to this for the first time again.
Read my mind man
YES
Kyle Hammond Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe sounded amazing the first time I heard it. Still does tbh but nothing beats that first listen
i feel this way about wesleys theory
Listening to The Art of Peer Pressure for the first time. Alone. Nothing but me in my bed with some earphones.
Untouchable.
lmao "sing for me, I'm thirsty
that had me in tears lol
haha
And he looks so serious while saying it, completely unaware
I haven’t even got to that bit yet and I’m already cringing loooool
im crying lmaooo
Sing About Me is the best song I've ever heard. That entire song is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard. I listened to that song on ecstasy and I broke down crying it was so incredible, the end of the first verse sent chills down my spine it was so unbelievable.
"Crying from heaven so loud it could water down a demon with the holy ghost till it drown in the blood of jesus"....I ain't even a Christian but damn
Listen to Faith by Kendrick if you havent heard it already. Masterful.
Yea definitely one of my favorite songs ever, period
Ross Brennan u doing too much b
1's Bundy ?
backstreet freestyle is kendrick's mentality as a 17 year old
kdot no its not, it just shows that K.Dot was being influenced by his friends trynna brag. Thats why its good kid maad city, cuz the city mad him like that.
@@livinlarge9130 actually if you do your research it kendricks mentality at 16 years old. He actually said it, check the genius page and ALSO do your research before telling someone they're wrong, even though he wasn't completely correct.

GKMC is like the west coast version of illmatic
Lmao no it's not . Are you from La? Lol
W
I feel. I might even like it a little better than Illmatic, though. Illmatic is all spoken from one rooted point in time and perspective, while GKMC is a story with rising and falling action, so it's more dynamic and realistic.
This comparison would make sense if GKMC didn't come out 18 years later
right lol Nas was the first mc to rap in detail and story like that
& here we are 4 years later and this album has solidified itself as the illmatic of my generation
straight facts bro
TPAB is more so our Illmatic, imo.
Sakaru Kamaah TPAB is kind of a love or hate type album when it comes to production, to lot people even-though he kills it when it comes to rapping. Gkmc is an album which is loved by almost everybody and was his big first project and had arguably a bigger impact then Tpab
@Aamir H w
no it didn't
i love the album but it's not a classic tho.
greatest of this generation
but TPAB tho
+marco bazan think he was talking about Kendrick as an artist, not the album lol
***** ohhh in that case ya he's right
kdot Naw
@@deonnelson9780 he is tho
How y'all ain't talk about money trees tho ?
such a fucken shame he got nominated for 6 grammys for/on this album and didn't receive a single one...smh
It was a fucking travesty, he's put 2 Masterpieces in a row. Maclemore won because of bullshit politics. It may have been the best album of this decade so far.
ADAJ3 Idk bout best of the decade but its up there for sure bruh
fuck the grammys. macklemore only one because he has a hit single. thats bullshit.
He was nominated for 7 but I get what you are saying.
thats pisses me off even more.
"Sing about me" is for sure the best track.
"Thirsty"
4NDR31 Dlza same thing
Yeah or money trees
Kendrick is the KING of hip hop right now!
I hope he doesn't end up like 99% of them rappers who run out of creativity.
He wont, i know he wont.
2010METALFAN I hope not... But the song "I" sucks
bulletfastspeed u like his new track blacker the berry?
Born Legend X I definetly like it
it actually gave me hope for his new album...
"that was sing for me and thirsty" still dying on that shit hahahaha
IKR 😂😂
Lmfao
Lmaooooooo stay messing up the names
The Boy LMAO Wtf for real?
😂😂😂
At first i was skipping "Art of Peer Presure" and "Poetic Justice", but fuck it, after 1,5 years i ain't skippin shit. This album is so fuckin good, it's classic to me. You may disagree, but it's one of the best albums i've ever heard.
It's weird, those were the ones I skipped too. Nothing against them, just for some odd reason I did.
I'm not too keen on poetic justice but I loved art of peer pressure
The only meh song is poetic justice
@@zachyboi7293 drake fucks it up. btw they shoulda kept the intros sample throughout the song
@@mackavelly 🎯💯🙏
At the ending skit of Compton where Kendrick is using his mom's van & says he'll back in 15 minutes, I partially took it as he could've subliminally been saying he's on his way to go get his 15 minutes of fame then he's coming back home. Maybe that's too idealistic & I'm just buggin'.
That's fucking deep I never even thought of that. Awesome
u are buggin
Bruh you on some English teacher ass shit bruh
Music is art.You are not wrong for seeing it like that. You are not bugging at all.
Dope idea but I heard from someone else it's basically the start of the album all over again. After Compton ends, Sherane comes back on. So pretty much the story is on repeat.
Awesome review, but I am kinda shocked how no one brought up Money Trees. best song on the album.
Nah, Maad City, Poetic Justice, Swimming pools, backseat freestyle, bdkmv...
Poetic Justice and Swimming Pools are some of the weakest songs imo. I enjoy them, but compared to the energy and structure of songs like Money Trees (or MAAD City, Dying of thirst, etc) they don't compare. but to each their own :)
Okay good point
Fuck it every song is good
Nah u bissshhhh
Only thing that i'm disappointed bout this review is that they didnt mention jay rock's crazy verse on money trees
nigga said sing fa me & thirsty 😂
BEST ALBUM IVE HEARD IN MY LIFE

10 Years later and I'm back to rewatch this album review. This album aged incredibly well!
Kendrick is fucking great man ...
i can listen to that shit all day
Everyday.
No one cares
ok baby
I still listen to GKMC on my phone n im my car when im driving. U cant get tired of that cd
Me in 2022🤣
I feel like TPAB is a much more well put together project, because it's full of messages and so complex, but GKMC is so much better sonically. If I want to have a good listen, I fuck with GKMC. If I want to feel artistic and deep I listen to TPAB. GKMC is better sonically, no doubt. But TPAB is the better, and more artistic album.
Completely agree, however, I feel myself going back to GKMC more than TPAB.
That's what I'm saying. GKMC is sonically better, so I enjoy it more, but TPAB is better.
+ZDub Tha Gawd I agree he gets better every project, TPAB is futher proof of progress in his work
+ZDub Tha Gawd This album isn't sonically better you just find it more interesting because its more new age. This is the kind of music teens can get behind but TPAB is a far better project where as this one has hit and misses. It's not subjective to say TPAB is better because it is. It has a more complex and original message than a guy living in the hood. Most people prefer this simply because of the bangers which is shallow but what can ya do.
+ZDub Tha Gawd I don't even know if I'd say GKMC sounds "better", it's just more accessible and "trendy" than TPAB is sonically. I think TPAB is more sonically developed actually, but I guess it is subjective.
"When you listen to the whole project, it all comes together."
That's the magic of Kendrick's music
Justin Crawford For real, the album sequencing in TPAB is amazing.
16:42 Did Myke catch somebody littering
Anybody else think Cartoons & Cereal would have been the intro if it didn't leak?
intro to what?
it was on a mixtape
I banish the fake. GKMC. It wasn't on a mixtape.
Tyler Holcomb t was meant to be on the album. I don't know where it was going to be placed though.
But it leaked way too early and they also had sample clearing issues
Thegrandkru I feel like it could be the intro. Cause the album goes through one whole day. Makes sense to me.
"Sing for me and thirsty" still hilarious 😂💀
Its always nice to hear Beezy actually passionate about a project and speak lol
From a park bench to their OWN OFFICE
that dude Myke c- town hate drake lol
Like every other person with a brain.

Well you know me.
Its 2022....this is still my favorite album of all time
The Art of peer pressure still gives me chills...
The intellect at which you guys critique and evaluate these albums is amazing. Keep up the great work you guys.
This nigga really said "sing for me" and "thirsty"...
Seriously, thank you DEHH for introducing me to kdot. I watched this review in 2012 and decided to listen to GKMC because you guys praised it so much. 12 years later he's still my favorite artist
my favorite track is maad city. my least favorite track is real
overall i would give this album a 9.5/10
The review was on point and i co-sign every comment made...except when it comes to "Poetic Justice." I've had that track on repeat since i bought the album and it is refreshing to hear a brotha speaking about love without it being mushy as hell. Just saying. Big up! Peace.
I agree with Myke. I always skip Poetic Justice. Imo it throws the whole feel of the album off...
Amazing album from an amazing artist. Kendrick will definetely be menitoned among the legends in the future.
And the thing with Kendrick, he can honestly do it all. It's not just dope rhyme schemes and great story telling over certain productions styles, his projects have bangers filled with quoteables as well as laid back tracks to mix in with the story and narration, real life talk from mixed with comments on society as a whole, and it all fits. I honestly can't name that many rappers who are so great whilst being very versatile. If Kendrick keeps doing this, he might be mentioned among the greats.
GKMC is really one the greatest rap albums EVER. Just a pure masterpiece.
i honestly think his new album is better than this, although i still fucks with GKMC heavy too
Agreed
yup
I feel like I’m watching movies when listening to both Kendrick Lamar and Outkast albums. Their storytelling is sooooo good. I can’t pick who’s better out of Kendrick or Andre 3000 😭
Instead of arguing about my preference wit GKMC over Illmatic I'll just say that GKMC is our generations Illmatic. I'm not a fan of Illmatic manly due to the production it just wasn't my cup of tea back then I personally put Stillmatic over Illmatic any day but I'll never take away the impact that Illmatic made making it a Classic & arguably one of the best hip hop albums ever made, but GKMC had the same kind impact in California that Illmatic had on New York both albums were Instant Classics.
Nope, TPAB is our generation's illmatic. It's insane that Kendrick topped himself.
Jack M didn't really like tpab
TPAB is more like our generation's It Takes A Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back, imo
Jack M THIS DICK AIN'T FREEEEE
waysideme did you like the meaning
Art or peer pressure my fav track. off a pill and remy red, come thru and bust ya head.
"i" is the genius pre-released single on TPAB that fits in beautifully, like "Backseat Freestyle" for GKMC.
Exactly! Now thats the album is out the song connects to the story
Haven't listened to this for a while, but I'm excited to jump back into it. Seeing him live with Yeezy with the visuals made by Flying Lotus was just like the album!
Just waiting on that "good kid, m.A.A.d city" movie...
this is probably one of my favorite albums of this decade so far
gkmc hands down a masterpiece, best album to date better than tpab for me
I love this album, Kendrick created an amazing and it still bumps in my car and headphones on a daily basis to this day! Poetic Justice was the only weak track. I loved every other track. And I also loved Black Boy Fly and Collect Calls. Those bonus tracks were amazing.
The art of peer pressure is one of the greatest songs I’ve ever listened to I went to sleep after that cus nothing was going to top it
XD Beezy really sounded like Kendrick's father right there.
I love this album. I just feel like I'm in Compton when I'm listening to this
I still haven't heard anything fuckin' with this album & it's almost 2017...
Tim Gates 2020 is almost here, you still feel the same way?
this may be my fav review ill go back and watch reviews after I've hear the album a few times and this is makes me wanna hear good kid once more, can't wait for the collab with cole
This ain't his best album but it's definitely a classic
Is this album a classic? 5:20
HELL YEAH! 😂😂
Yup
This is one of the best reviews you DEHH has ever done and the 1st time I've heard the album before watching the review. Keep up the good work fellas
I feel sorry for whoever has the same mentality as beezy, cus you can miss out on a lot of good music
@Shubert Lancaster what do you mean
I mean the fact that there would be 13 songs on an album from an artist you like but wouldn't even listen to the bonus tracks on the chance you might like them or even because it's your favorite artist, just like beezy saying he didn't care, he wanted the short film, that's what I mean about missing out on a lot of good music
Spaceghostzombie well bonus tracks aren’t part of the actual album for a reason , they’re usually subpar , and on this albums the bonus tracks were def subpar .
Victor Morales You’re tripping big time if you think they were subpar
@@henrychinaski5938 Black Boy Fly wasnt subpar
this dope lookin' back at it, word to Kyle, wish i could hear it for the first time again. But yo.. yall dropped yall review for this Oct 25th, 3 days after the album dropped & yall was fuckin up the titles of the songs ... #OldAssYoungNiggas
CLASSIC ALBUM DEFINTELY ONE OF THE BEST OF THE YEAR HANDS DOWN.
I just got this on vinyl not too long ago and something about a record player adds a lot more to this project. like the intro even starts off sounding like a needle drop on a record.
Personally I love this album...I like the concept behind it, how it was put together and the way the story is told. Its been on repeat for over a week and will continue to be on repeat. I was waiting for 2 albums this year On the House and Good kid mAAd city, and gkmc definitely delivered
The problem with this album is it came out in 2012.
That year with busy with some massive albums that could nearly overshadowed this one.
But this album was so damn good it just could not be overshadowed.
As years goes by this album becomes more and more relevant and considered to be a classic. idc.
Definitely a classic, I think it’s aged really well
Great Review! Btw, when you get the deluxe version in stores, it comes with 2 cd's, so it's like another side story.
The edit at 1:14 to a new shot made it look like Feefo told a story about a time when he was violent and they were like 'we can't leave that in"
did they ever do a My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy review? If not they should even though it came years ago
They started to do reviews 2011 and MBDTF came out 2010. They dont do projects that came out before 2011 except some classics from the 90's
they could do MBDTF classic review. I'm pretty sure it solidified itself to hold that status.
wish granted! lol
You can play Good Kid Maad City album backwards just like Damn. The end of Compton stars with him taking the van keys...Kendrick is a legend.
The album wouldn’t make sense played backwards because of the skits in between. Like try playing Sing About Me, Dying of Thirst first and then Swimming Pools right after, it doesn’t make sense.
The genius of Good Kid Maads City’s narrative is that it can relate to a lot of kids growing up in that kind of environment. When Kendrick’s skit saying “mom Ima take the van out, be back in 15 min” plays at the end of Compton, it serves as a cycle of life that a lot of kids around that age go through in the hood with certain events repeating itself over and over again.
True@@MTWENTY
I agree with Myke, I feel like Poetic Justice didn't feel right within the album. I felt that Kendrick wanted to appeal to the radio with this one.
Poetic justice was him talking about Sherane
That song definitely fit the context of the album
This album is excellent, great review guys. I'm not just saying that because I agree with you guys but because you guys really are good at what you do and it's good to have a back after not posting a video for a while. My condolences out too Modest Media!#OneLove
This is a dope album....99/100
Still can’t believe Myke dropped the hard R.
Re-review this classic to see how you feel about it.
As a Kendrick fan I really had no doubt that he was going to give us something great but this album was everything I wanted it to be. I'm completely satisfied. Thanks Kendrick.
poetic justice is the only track I skip on the cd lol... but the cd is a west coast classic. it brought back a lot of sounds I haven't heard since the mid 90's
why skip it
Maybe. But really the track just dosnt blend well with the rest of the cd

This is THE hip hop album. It has something for everyone, no matter what kind of rap you like. And it's fucking good.
damn if they really like gkmc then these guys are gonna lose their shit when they review tpab
this album went beyond past my expectations the hype was so big for kendrick i wasnt sure if he cud live up to it but the album was art to me theres not many artists that can put out a entire cohesive project like this amazing 10 outta 10 K dot the man
My favorite album......
Today when I heard kids in my school who like mainstream music praising this album I couldn't stop smiling cuz Kendrick did what so many rappers could do, he appealed to everyone.
I can't wait until March 23rd man.
I don't know if I can either. I'm Dying of Thirst

Man I love your channel man, defnitely subbed now. I saw couple of reviews and you guys have a very clear way of explaining your opinions and you guys are hilarious too, everyone has a clean way of saying their mind. GOOD KID MAAD CITY was the most cinematic hip hop album, and probably the best of that year :)
Sing for me lol
This is my favorite Kendrick album. Makes you feel like you’re a kid from Compton. MAAD City was terrifying when I first heard it. Amazing.
Tpab way better
I agree. at least as whole, i think TPAb is a better album
5 years later, Turned into a classic.
GKMC > Illmatic
thats a bit of a strech, better that stillmatic or it was written maybe but not the illmatic
Zecariah Aden
LOL chill bro. ..
GKMC is great, a classic, but Illmatic is the GOAT.
Zecariah Aden not better than either of those. not even close...lol
agreed,GKMC at least is a bearable front to back album, same cant be said for Illmatic,i bump that shit when i have sleep problems.
I completely agree. I've been a huge KL fan since Overly Dedicated... even the KL EP. When I initially heard the singles for GKMC, Poetic Justice and Swimming Pools.. I was thrown off. Like what tf.. moreso why tf he use these for his mainstream singles when I knew he had much more to say than what most were really getting from it. When I took the time to listen to the entire album, I completely understood the context of the songs and how they fit into the album, his style/artistry, and his story. Sing For Me and Real are my favorite tracks... then Art of Peer Pressure and Money Trees each of which I can strongly relate to. Over all.. brilliant album :)
on point. BTW you cute as hell
Didn’t even speak on money trees smh
Good kid and maad city are the most underrated songs on this album and the recipe is soooooo good

Glad to see you guys back reviewing albums after that loooong one week hiatus. lol

You guys are the only hip hop album reviewers I take serious out here except
for HipHopCultureTv. Ya'll the best.
Could've skipped "real" but everything else was good
Naaaaaaah,
I was looking forward to this, great insight. I agree with Feefo that like Eminem, Kendrick has the ability to make his flow transcend the beat. He's great at playing characters and telling a story, which is something I love listening to in hip hop.
"sing of me" thats a neck
I just realized that at the end of "Compton", when the skit starts, it´s a new beginning of the new album.
Thanks for this review!
Maybe Kendrick´s telling us, that this Gang shit will never stop, like when it ends, it´s going to start all over again. Just like his Album.
first thing i did when i copped this album was buy a 40,roll a blunt, chill in my car and just vibe to it.
It's coming, my man.
