Izuzu npr brake booster replacement

No service manual, little to no experience on Izuzu, was able to replace the booster and avoid towing it to a dealer.

Is it true that if the master cylinder was leaking, that the brake booster would need to be replaced? That is what I am being told by a mechanic.
