Another great video. I'm on diet, so the food you show is killing me:). Try OSCYPKI cheese, typical from the Tatras. And do not tell me you don't have Polish roots somewhere is the family because your pronunciation of most of the words is just perfect. And grammar too! Zapiekanka (singular), zapiekanki (plural).

Zakopane is a centre of Goral culture and is often referred to as "the winter capital of Poland". It is a popular destination for mountaineering, skiing, and tourism. Zakopane lies near Poland's border with Slovakia, in a valley between the Tatra Mountains and Gubałówka Hill.

  • @lordart21
    @lordart21 Před 2 lety +17

When in Zakopane take a cable car to Kasprowy Wierch to see beautiful Tatra Mountains panorama (if the weather is ok). On your way back, you can admire ski jumping hills, Wielka Krokiew and Średnia Krokiew and also make it to the top of Wielka Krokiew to see how brave are the guys who with their skies decide to jump off the hill ;) If you like hot springs definitely visit Chochołowskie Termy which are very close to Zakopane and one of the best in region (definitely the biggest). Also Chochołów has a nice old wooden buildings in its village center that are worth seeing. Enjoy!

However, if you start the same route but after the waterfall - turn right to GREEN route (you will see the sign painted on trees) on a way to DOLINA PIECIU STAWOW - this is is great piece of nature. 2-3 hours of hike, beginning is a bit of hill but you guys look fit! later it becomes more flat and you will manage for sure :) the place is beautiful - 5 lakes surrounded with high mountains....

Quickly changing weather is the definition of Tatra. I was born there and I'm lucky to have a flat there... but I live 800km away, so I often just look up videos to check out, so thank you for the fresh good quality look around.
I personally love the feel when I get there in the colder months, when you are 20-30 kilometers away, you suddenly literally feel the coldness in the car, the temperatures drop 5-10C just like that and you suddenly see 0, -5 or -15C on the thermometer...

Small back story first. I am an American with no Polish ancestry. My wife was born and raised in Poland, so Polish is her first language. I speak Polish about as well as a two year old. We were in Zakopane over 20 years ago, and the biggest memory for me was taking the cable car to the top of the mountain, Kasprowy Wierch. For those that are Polish or knowledgeable of Zakopane, this was on the old cable car, on the fixed cable. Have not seen the new one, with detachable cable grip, and that was built some time ago. I remember this being rather pricey, but well worth it. I am a life long snow skier, so I've seen a few beautiful mountain sights, but that ride has gorgeous views. We stayed in the Kasprowy Hotel, which would be a wicked place to stay for winter skiing. You can ski from the ski area right to the hotel. Location, location, location. On the top of the mountain, I can remember being able to walk into Czech Republic without having to pass through any customs. That land was wide open, serious mountain territory. There is a trail to hike down, but we went back down on the cable car. My opinion is to see Zakopane, but include the mountain in your plans. Be prepared, as even in May and June, at the top of the mountain, it will be cold, just above freezing.

I went there in the early eighties.
Quaint, beautiful town, friendly people, very welcoming.
The buildings were fantastic like Swiss Alps hotels.
The church commemorates a local priest, who was murdered by the Nazi's at Auschwitz. He tried his best to help the prisoners, but paid with his life.
I remember I bought a pair of Polish fur lined officer's boots at the market.
The guy said in good English.
"You can either have a pair of soldiers boots for two dollars or officer's boots for five."🙂
Just on the border with Slovakia there's a river where you can take a boat trip through the rapids.
I'm traveling to Krakow in November.
So a visit to Zakopane will be on my agenda.
Thanks for the update on what to see and expect in the town. 👍

Polish o with a slash above is like english double o, like in 'a book'. So Krupówki (-poofkey), smaczek - good!, Yes, zapiekanki is plural, guys, youre amazingly quite good at Polish spelling, stay along :)

English/Irish is not my native but I agree with Naomi that you are climbing footually. :) Getting the mountain footually is IMHO easier than on the hands (manually). If you had entered manually, I would have applied for the Guinness Award for you. And climbing footually, I could only give you an award in the form of Guinness beer, sounds almost the same or giving you another Like! :)

A minor if not that minor note: buddy, when you enter church, you should take off your hat, even if you are just a tourist and non-believer. Unless you're a soldier on duty - but you don't look. It is simply a sign of respect, all men do (women can enter their hats without a problem) - this is especially important in Poland, where churches are still mainly places of prayer, not just museums. Regards - enjoy exploring
