⁴ᴷ⁶⁰ R160s Operating on the A Line

- Due to a recently-identified issue with the new Bombardier-built R179 cars, the entire fleet of R179s is out of service. This smart and prudent action taken by MTA NYCT will ensure that these cars go through the required checks to make sure that they are safe and reliable. In the interim, several spare trains of R160s are in use on the A line. These cars will fill in for the R179s while they undergo engineering inspections. Enjoy!

4:26 i could see the train shaking and the operator actually reacts to it by him rocking back and fourth
1 like for the R160's to stay on the A line.
@Europe Trains!: Trains and soccer never said it was begging but ok
@@logical.01 Yes
I dont like r179 so
The r160s no longer on a 😢
It’s possible they right come back to the A line once the R46s retire.

The R160 fits perfectly on the A line, I just love the design, the best by far

And The D!
R160 is back on the A line since 2006. with Siemens and alstom the A has every fleet of train.
i dont think the r143 has been on a line
@VINCENT CHENG The R143 would not run on the A since it is only in 4 car sets and the A uses full length 600' long trains of 10 cars. It could possibly run on the C but that is highly unlikely since all 212 cars are assigned to ENY yard.
No R143 and R38s R38s was on C and R32s was on A
Ali Muhammad 1968 R38 contract went towards the C and E lines also F and D lines, they were never on the A

Awesome! I caught the R160B Siemens (A) and R68 (A) at the same time @207th St 💯
One of my favorite subway rides.....the A train to the Rockaways. Nice scenery too. Thanks for sharing😀
I miss when these were on the (A), they were such a good train. Miss you R160!
Yessss! Some R160Bs on the A line. Love it
Congratulations. U do excellent video coverage.!!!!👌
To all train fanners rail fanners thanks for sharing videos of trains T160 nice having them on the A line😀
R160
I love how the tracks at the aquedect north conduit ave are at ground level. Proof: 1:03:27
Only JFK airport station is at Ground level. Everything else is on a 4 track embankment.
Are there any plans to make the express tracks usable? It would come in handy especially since some recent weekend GOs have required single tracking from Rockaway Blvd to the Airport.
Yeah. It makes you think it’s a railroad
@@TheRailLeaguer I think it is about slightly less than 1 meter above so it may count.
I know A way to make the station ADA-Accessible. They should rebuild the southbound entrance. 2 HEET Turnstiles, 1 exit only Turnstile, and an emergency gate lead to a new token booth with a ramp that leads to Hawtree Street. They should also add a fare control to the manhattan-bound platform that has a ramp, but with no station agent.
Great video! I hope to ride the R160 on the A one day. Seems to be a better fit on the A anyways.
damn the R160 haven’t ran on the (A) since 2006. I guess going back to 2006...
Officially
a
Ider that. Why'd they leave the A?
In 2006, It was just one train used for testing. This is the first time they have been a significant portion of the equipment for the A line.
Why did the A line use R46? They’re even older than the R160’s.
I still remember when the R-10s ruled the A with an iron fist, thundering along CPW when it was a DASH and not a leisurely jog.
Did alot of work on the a line in queens. Always great views
I missed the R179s, I hope they get fixed soon ;-;
They made it bad
Some gacha kids need to learn
This comment is hella old lmao, R179s are fairly reliable now. And what does me using Gacha have anything to with it? The entire community isn't bad, so get your facts straight.
@@SunbrokenHunter lol 4 weeks
I rode on this type of train twice already, I wasn’t surprised though. Since these were great temporarily replacements
We have now the final reason why the A had to use R46.
I see your out and about making vids maybe i'll see you this week of recording! Also 0:43 where were you that looks like an amazing place to see some trains!
Love Your videos, DJ Hammers Trains, hi from a south african Railfan!
at the Broadway Junction yard, sometimes you’ll be able to see an R160 A train there
1:40. Don't uncouple now!!
I love this A train so much I can’t wait to see it!!!!,!,!,
I love these R160B’s I hope they aren’t retiring anytime soon.
Yup lol R160s are gonna retire like in 2050
Great collab. Hope to do more in the future
Great shots, brother!!!
I just love that there r160B A trains because I like the propulsion
Some good photography there
Hi ! this camera´s quality is awesome !!! Witch one is it?
The R160s should have been the signature fleet of the (A) line.
I think the R179s should have gotten CBTC installed when they were taken out of service in 2020 so that some 10 car R179s could be reassigned to the Jamaica yard to replace R160s that were moved to the (A) line. Not only would this have made the R160 (A) trains permanent, but there would also be R179 (E), (F), (G), (R), and (Q) trains (The (Q) line borrows a train from the (R) during morning rush hours).
I enjoy that video👍👍
Ggwp! R160s weren't on the A for a long time
I like your camera settings! Did you have this at 1/60 shutter or 1/120 shutter. Also did you use an ND filter or change the Focal Aperture? Beautiful train shots!!
The first 24 minutes or so of this video are my clips. I use a Panasonic XC-1500, which has built in switchable ND filters. I often use the 1/4 and 1/16 ND filters.
@@DJHammersTrains Awesome!! That really makes your 60fps videos look that much smoother. I use ND16 and 32 usually on my GoPro a lot. But I record at 120fps a lot so usually for that setting and 240fps I use an ND8 as well. I have 120fps shots on my channel.
Wow, thats alot of footage. Great job as always. Also that Siemens on the E at the one hour mark has since been sent to the A
Holy $@#! R160Bs on The A?! That´s super rare!!!!!!
I use to love riding THE A over the Flats doing the round-robin....
48:09 DAMN that sounds good.
Love your videos as always. Question. If the R160s supposedly came from the F line, what is being used to replace the missing ones on the F?
The F just uses less trains than usual
The F is operating with reduced service due to switch and signal work at kings highway. This frees up extra trains for the A.
@@DJHammersTrains That makes sense Thanks for the reply. Love your stuff since I have to be at work all the time I can't go out to see it in person.
@@DJHammersTrains k
First train - Siemens
Second train - Alstom
@1:02 how you got that nice view
Nice Catch
I’m actually glad and surprised there isn’t any single issue with these R160 (A) trains TBH
There’s really no Issue with the R160 in general. They are one of the two most reliable cars in the fleet, the other being the R188.
47:56 I like how the route says (N) to Coney Island via Bridge even though it’s an Far Rock bound (A) train
14:28 that's the exact point in which the R44/R46 broke the world speed record for the fastest subway train Reaching 88.46 MPH. Cool right! Also the R44 train was dubbed the name "lemon" because of its 2 year late arrival and because of its mechanical issues. That is until it reached such an excessive speed
it was on the LIRR branch located in Northern Queens not on the Rockaway line
Nice collab!! Hope to have another one soon🙂🙂
I love the R160’s is still on the a line and and the trains go very fast but slowing down wow Brooklyn bound Q train to south ferry Manhattan
R160 look great ngl
Thanks for giving me credit for a few of those clips once again!
the R160 is kind of like the normallest train in the system
haha train go boom
There is finally an A train because the others are R42
Nice
Beach 67st was my favorite station
In the first clip that was an Siemens r160b
We back in 2006! :000
I rode these the last time I was in NYC. 2009.
Thanks for featuring me!
how did he feature you am confused jon
@@gib6252 Look at the description
Jon Railz o cool
Watching 7/12/22 lookin good
Not gonna lie, i do kinda feel like the R179s fit more on the A then the R160s mainly because the 160 cars shake side to side alot, which the 179s didnt do
I love trains
1:07, i’m very late, but where’s this location at? Is it near broad channel?
I wish this could go on the A
Tip: Speed up to 2x, and you can see what the NYC subway was like if it was a reasonable subway speed.
I already knew about this.
Holy Crap, R160’s on the (A) be Kinda speedy doe. 👁👄👁
Ali Muhammad well every r46 will be gone by the time the r211 order is complete
How long will the R160's be on the A and C Lines?
Until the R179s return to service, which according to the Chief Mechanical Officer should be in a matter of weeks.
I USED TO LIVE THERE IN FAR ROCKAWAY
I was on these earlier today
I like the sound of the R160A more
Me too
If the R179s are back into service on the (A), does the R160s go back to the Jamaica & Coney Island Yards?
Maor Edry I hope not because R179s have not been doing a good job on the A and C line so yeah maybe F,R,and E should receive them.
R160s should stay on the A and C line.
@@aaronsamuel2823 it’s gonna go back to jamaica
Yes, these trains will go back to Jamaica Yard when the R179’s return to service.
3:07 sounds so cool
Show the r260 from JFK 2 Broad Channel. And running express from 59 2 125th.
I don't understand why the MTA had spare R160's lying around to begin with. Wouldn't they want to keep all of their functiong NTT trains in service and keep some spare R46's and 68's lying around instead?
F train service has been reduced because trains are unable to short turn at Kings Hwy until the fall. There is also nowhere suitable to turn around the trains as well. As a result, several R160s were available to use for A train service. Once the R179 issues are fixed and the switch work at Kings Hwy is completed, these R160s are going back.
The sounds of Siemens propulsion
Cool
0:20 R160B A TRAIN
Lemons were being lemons
Make sure you get the 32s on the J. Z trains
A few cars got transferred but I’m not sure if they went into service (given that J and M service is covered by spare cars in the yard due to reduced L service).
Doubt it would run because TWU wouldn't allow it.
Did you know the r160 trains were from the F line.
Back to r160s huh
Yo which line did they come from the f, m?
I like the A sometimes
For phase 3 reopening the mta should reopen the abandoned platforms for better social distancing.
Why? It’s basically useless for that idea.
If anything, what they should do for long term resilience is actually replace some station pairs with a station in between. For example, Hewes and Lorimer on the J and M replaced with a larger station at Union Avenue, and 71st and 79th on the D can be replaced with a single stop at Bay Ridge Pkwy. This allows for better social distancing.
@@TheRailLeaguer and how is reducing the amount of stations gonna allow for better social distancing. Not to mention that building new stations and demolishing current stations will cost a lot of money
This is better. R160 should operate on the A regularly. R179s might be better off in Coney Island if this is where they came from.
All of the A train R160s came from Jamaica and Culver yards, since they were taken out of F service due to CBTC related work on the Culver Line (switch work at Kings Hwy).
I love the R179 on the A but I wouldn’t mind the A having both R179 and R160B until the R211 comes. I’m tired of seeing that old R46.
What is the F going to use? The A will use R46 until the R211 replaces them.
Do you hear that? It's the foamer alert I activated!
This better be the last time the R179s break down because I'm starting to lose it. Once Alstom completes merging with Bombardier they better be doing it better.
The R62A and R142 which were built by Bombardier are ironically reliable.
I really thought the 160’s couldn’t run on the A line cuz of electricity issues or something
It’s been fixed.
Yay !!!
ooohhhhh, Dj hammers and the train arent social distancing, I'm snitching
47:55 n train via the a line?
1:00. So beautiful.
Guys I have Great news r160 on the A train is back
0:43 how do you get there??
