  • Hey Guys! Your dog just got neutered or is about to be neutered tomorrow and you need to know what to prepare for???
    5 AFTER CARE TIPS:
    1. Limit their activity for 2 weeks
    a. Controlled Leash walks only.
    b. At least for the first week be as strick at possible to not let your dog Run, Jump, definitely no swimming, no going up stairs, and no jumping on furniture.
    c. The easiest way to confine your dog is to keep them in their crate during this time and take them out 3-4x a day for short walks.
    d. If your dog is extremely energetic ask your veterinarian for extra sedatives to help keep your dog calm during the healing process. I like to use Trazadone or Gabapentin, each vet is different.
    2. Keep the cone of shame on - or monitor them 24\7 not to lick at their incision or scratch it. This is SO HARD. But I believe in you!!!
(Put the Cone on for affect) haha
    3. Check the incision 2x a day and keep it dry and clean.
    a. A normal incision may be swollen and red for the first 3 days. Normal clear oozing fluid is ok.
    b. Not normal to look out for to bring your pet back into the veterinarian is: Bright red blood and excessive bleeding. Green Pus discharged. Removed or torn open sutures by your pet or pets activity. Bring your pet in right away for the incision to be checked if you are worried at all!
    4. Don’t miss medications.
    a. Your Veterinarian will give you Antibiotics, pain medication and anti-inflammatory medication to go home. Antibiotics are necessary to prevent infection and the pain medications to keep your pet comfortable and anti-inflammatories to help with swelling at the incision site.
    5. Call your veterinarian whenever you are concerned or bring your dog in for them to check the incision site.
Most Veterinarians will schedule a recheck 1 week after their surgery and then
Sutures are removed at 14 days post - operation.
I hope this video helped you feel comfortable after your pets neuter to take care of them!
Thank you and please share this video to a friend.

My 9 month old was neutered about two weeks and a half ago. It was hard on him. I felt so bad for him and all the pain he seemed to be in. He was terrified of going to the bathroom after. Only would go once a day (forced) and appeared to be in pain. It is not as simple as people want you to believe. He is okay now, but I would not ever want him to go through that again.

Okay one thing I’ll say is take the cone off when you feed your dog, just watch them finish their meal and put it back on. They can reach the bowl with it on, but I didn’t want him leaning in a weird way just to eat out of his bowl. Dudes struggling enough 😅

I researched and investigated and waited until the right time to make this decision. I’m taking my 2 1/2 GSD In tomorrow and he is very sensitive and so sweet. It kills me to know it will be difficult however after 3 years large dogs don’t need those hormones for their bones, joints and
Health. Every specialist I have spoken with has said chances of cancer increases each year after 3 if still intact. I rather not take any risks and just get this over with.
He’s my baby! Appreciate the advice and all the comments shared

Please note: unfixed dogs get attacked (males) by neutered males. He's also not going to listen to you AT ALL the longer it's not done. In addition to possibly running off. And the cancer is much higher.
I know a gentle dog that wound up with 12 stitches b/c of another male.

Bruno is now neutered and doing really well. His recovery took a bit longer and I highly recommend the calm collar. It surrounded his head and still gave him vision.
I completely agree with you on unfixed males getting attacked by fixed males.
We had many males dogs and cats
      Behave very hostile towards Bruno.
I would of done it sooner however My dog needed the extra time.
Another great outcome is his noise phobia is improving.
All in all it turned out great!

Really helpful info. My 6 mo old jack russell was spayed 4 days ago. She stays calm when in my work space, and since we got her a surgical recovery suit, she hasn't gotten close to lick her sutures. The only problem is that she wants to jump when we're out for a short leash walk and sometimes when we're in the living room watching TV. I try to stop it as much as possible, but jumping is what these dogs do best. Her incision looks fine, but I was still anxious. Hearing you explain about the redundancy in the suturing made be feel a lot better. Thanks!

      @rdkimes Před 3 měsíci

Sadly, they don't work for all dogs. I tried one with my German Shepherd and he squirmish the entire time he had it on. Then he was having issues where his boy would come up through the designated hole then when he peed it would soak the suit and just drip out. Didn't see it happen the first couple times but it developed a terrible smell from the urine. The first 3 mornings after I woke up and checked him he would also be saturated from licking the suit. The cone sucks but it's much more effective.

The clinic only sent my dog home with pain meds. I had to take him to a vet to to get antibiotics cause he was sneezing alot, and only peeing every 12 hours. He would pee at 2 in the morning and around 2 in the afternoon for the first few days. And the blow up cone didn't work. Tried 2 different ones and he reached his stitches immediately, so please be careful if yall decide to try that kind. At the end of the second day he finally learned how to move around and lay down easily with the plastic cone on. The soft cone like the one in this video, at petsmart ranges from 40's to 60's depending on the size u need. Alot cheaper to order one from internet before surgery. Wish I had known that ahead of time.

My vet is always asking about neutering my 8 yr old miniature poodle 🐩. I had to take him to the emergency vet a while back and asked if he got neutered would he calm down some because he wanted to try to hump anything he got close to. He was already 4 yes old when I got him and now he is 8. Anyway she said it may slow him down but he is a 🐕 dog and a 🐕 dog will be a dog neutered or not. He just couldn't reproduce if he happened to be around a dog in heat. Well it's just him and me. We have to have our dogs on a leash when they are outside so he will not be close enough to get another female dog pregnant. The only thing I am worried about is they say dogs are more prone to getting cancer if they are not neutered. So I think that would be the only reason I would have it done.

@@angelyscuello7570 in hindsight I’m glad I waited later in his life to have him neutered, testosterone is key for male dogs to be healthy for there later years. He had enlarged testicles and one was twice the size as the other. The bigger one being the size of a small lemon. Neuter went great he recovered after two weeks and I was able to take him off his meds after 8-9 days . He seemed to handle it like a champ and I thought the meds were no longer needed. The first two days seemed to be the worst for him. He was able to pee and poop after the second day. He seems to be a lot more comfortable. He also had a tumor growing on his Anus from being an older dog still intact and that was removed the same day. His quality of life is better and it’s worth doing it. I totally against neutering but had to make the decision to do it. I was afraid of making that decision and there be a negative outcome but it’s for him to have a better life. In hindsight I think I was over analyzing it. Go with your gut, hope it goes as well for you as it did for me and him 👍

guys, i hate myself for getting my 4 year old german sheperd/collie dog neutered, it's just been a rough process. its been one week since the day he was de-nutted and I had to take him back to see the vet yesterday because the stitches came undone because he must've licked the area while I was at work, and it looks like it was getting infected. he's had the e collar on nonstop but still can maneuver a way to get to it, and the edge of the plastic collar can get caught down on the area too. I've been applying triple antibiotic ointment (neosporin) to the area since day 3 when I first was suspicious of infection and the vet stapled the incision back shut as best as possible. I feel so bad for my lil buddy, I feel as if I broke the trust we had and just completely f'd everything up, man, im struggling. He's been barely moving at all from the couch where he likes to lay. So it's midnight right now and earlier he peed on the couch while laying down, which he's never done, but when i give him water throughout the day he won't drink everytime but when he does he drinks all the water in the bowl, a shitload, way more than before, and since he doesn't want to move from his spot hardly he just peed there. I try taking him out but he doesn't like walking if he doesn't have to. so a couple hours later and he was laying next to me on my bed and peed again on the bed while laying down like earlier. This incontinence has never happend before, my boy was excellent at holding his pee til I got home and let him out, or whining at the door if we were chilling inside and he had to go.
Before the neutering he was super super active and nonstop play fetch mode, even inside, and man ever since this surgery he hasn't been himself , hasn't really been able to because I can tell he is in pain from. the wound and he has the e collar on always. it's very sad and depressing and I feel like a psycho for doing this to my dog, I was always one to be firmly against getting my dog neutered, but the shared aggravation of me and my mom was that he would wander off to a neighbors house to see their dog whenever we took our eyes off him. Now he would always come back after yelling his name from anywhere 5-15 minutes, but he would always come back. He has had 3 litters of puppies from 3 different dogs living next door, they were all precious but the older folks were against it "you gotta get him neutered" and after dealing with him always wandering off and not being able to let him stay outside while im gone at work during the day without worrying about him wandering off, we have a fence but he can find ways out, the property is fairly big and hard to make inescapeable.
Overall this process has been a EFFING nightmare and I just want my dog to be healed so we can play again. I feel really shitty but hopefully the neutering works as promised and he doesn't want to wander as much. Oh yeah if there was a neighbor dog in heat, there was no controlling him, or keeping his attention at all, he would try running off unless i leashed him. So yeah I hope this goes by smoothly and he heals and is his happy playful active self again.
anyone else that is going through this, I feel you. to a degree man this is really killing me my dog and I are super duper close we've had quite the run in these past 4 years, check him out on ig @osodadawg

  • @DarkXenith
    @DarkXenith Před rokem

My 6y/o CKCS is being snipped in a couple of weeks due to recurrent prostatitis, which causes him considerable pain and makes him loose blood from his privates. Losing the testes is the only way to treat it. I'd rather not, but there's no other option for his comfort and quality of life. At least he's had the benefit of fully developing to maturity rather than being done before his first birthday, so hopefully the longterm effects of loss of testosterone can be somewhat mitigated.
