Australian Wild Bass Fishing | ANGRY FARMER ENCOUNTER!

  • Nathan and I take the small kayaks up a river to target one of Australia's best native fresh water fish in the Australian Bass. The Hunter Valley has had some recent rain which is brought some of the rivers up and flowing nicely with good numbers of bass travelling further up the systems. I start off the morning using a Jackall chubby shallow driver in the black and gold colour, one of the most reliable lures for this type of fishing. Nathan starts with a jig spinner with not so much success so decides to change to a driver later throughout the day for better results. We run into a farmer who was not happy with us being in the water but i'll let you guys be the judge of that one. Unfortunately my power bank that keeps my Gopro batteries running died early on in the day so I was unable to continue filming. The day went on and we caught a lot more fish but the size got smaller, 63 bass and 1 mullet the final tally was! I hope you guys enjoy and let me know what you think in the comments.

Great video buddy. That farmer's a worry though. I think he is in-correct. River bank lines do move but nevertheless it a natural water course. Wollombi Brook (if that's where you are fishing, downstream from Broke) has some stretches of river showing on Google maps that it is going through private property, but that's Google, not the Australian law. Like one of the comments indicated, you should report him to authorities so he can be educated before something bad happens. All the best.

For those who wonder exactly what the law states... FISHERIES MANAGEMENT ACT 1994 - SECT 38
sect. 38 Right to fish in certain inland waters
    (1) A person may take fish from waters in a river or creek that are not subject to tidal influence despite the fact that the bed of those waters is not Crown land if, for the purpose of taking those fish, the person is in a boat on those waters or is on the bed of the river or creek.
    (2) The right conferred by this section is subject to the other provisions of this Act.
    (3) In this section, “bed” of a river or creek includes any part of the bed of the river or creek which is alternatively covered and left bare with an increase or decrease in the supply of water (other than during floods).
    BANK BASED FISHING
While section 38 offers anglers the right of access for the purpose of fishing, argument often arises with the physical definition of the bed of river. Section 38 of the act clearly states that the bed is that any section which is covered and left bare with the increase of flows other than at times of flood. The definition of where this point actually in on a river is often subject to scrutiny. Clearly it is the intent of the legislation to allow access for fishing in some manner other than at times of flood. The Department considers the bed of the river to be that area which is below but within river channel flood level generally this is at the top of each bank and does not extend to areas when the river shifts beyond this point i.e. at times of flood. This area includes most areas of beach or gravel bars or areas considered as a waterway under the Crown Lands Act 1989.

These people are sad, alcoholic and lonely... they are like this because they are neurotic people and no one wants anything to do with them. Best bet when this happens is to film them and not aggravate them, some may have a weapon.
