Nice walk-thru of making and sterilizing seedling mix. I've never considered using the cal/mag for locking up and flushing the sodium out of my coir. Fill, rinse/repeat with water 3 times usually.
Your method makes good sense and since I have all the master blend components, this looks like my go to process for next season. Chemistry! ! Who knew??

Have you ever had fungus gnats from using peat moss?
I had a bacterial canker from Black Krim tomato seeds. I found an article on solarization of the soil (works for other issues, too). I have it in a PDF form. I know these can be uploaded but haven't figured out how to do it. If anyone knows I'd appreciate a lesson.

Yes I have had bugs from peat, other bagged mixes, and disease including bacterial canker last year as diagnosed by my UA County Extension Service. Sterilizing seed and mix is a no-brainer for me now. Here's a video on how to hot-water treat seed: czcams.com/video/AQjMqmO5dzE/video.html. I now only use the sous vide cooker for seed. I have a video coming out in 3 days on sterilizing cucurbit seeds. Here's one on me sterilizing my mix to kill bugs/disease: czcams.com/video/xOru_8VngvY/video.html. No issues this year knock on wood.
