I dont get how there's 500 different beard oil companies, but this is the one and only beard friendly resporator, and it's screaming for an innovator to improve it.

This is a great review. Very well done.
First off, I am the inventor, patent holder, and manufacturer of the Resp-O-Rator. I do not have a beard. I turn wood and sand inside wooden bowls etc. with a disk on a drill motor and the lathe running which generates a ton of very fine dust. I also use a face shield which is a must. I invented the Resp-O-Rator because I needed it. My wife turns too. We each have one and use them almost daily. Neither one of us like or use the nose clip. Just breathe through your mouth.
On the cons -- Much thought went into this produce. When you first get it remove the header card and cut the top 1" off the bag. It is a heavy gauge zip lock bag that can be used to store the Resp-O-Rator keeping it clean when not in use.
The Resp-O-Rator is designed to be lightweight and as user friendly as possible. If used in cold weather the clear tubing will stiffen and can if not carefully opened break the filter bar. All the yellow plastic on our Resp-O-Rator is PVC and if anything breaks can be easily repaired and even reinforced with PVC cement from any plumbing supply store.
The filters are proprietary. All filters are made, tested and certified to fit a specific manufacturers respirator. There is no such thing as a generic one size fits all filter. Our filters can be mounted in three positions so if they touch your back or the balance is not right just try indexing the filters to a more outward or upward position.
And last the Resp-O-Rator Jr. was made for light duty, short interval use. Your breath goes in and out of the filter media just like a dust mask. The moisture in your breathe will be caught when exhaling and this moisture will totally plug up the filter in about 3 hours. Breathing becomes very difficult. Just replace the filter and let the other one dry out. Good as new.
Just hope this helps. I really don't care what you use --- Just use something. Life is tooooo short.
I do love your product! But I really can not stand the plastic that holds the back filters in place as I have a huge head and neck. It broke on me in about three weeks. Other than that I've used it even during this Corvid Crisis because 3M hepa is the same as a facemask.

So as a guy, we have bigger heads. I see two main cons that is keeping me from buying this. It wouldn't take much to add a 45° halfway down the tubing to bring it out away from your face/neck a little bit. Also that would set you up to take and mount a simple ear loop on it to where the weight load is taken off your lips/mouth by a simple ear loop to hang it on your ears. I really want to buy this, but that's the two main cons I see that's preventing it. Also, a simple saliva "bowl" to catch a little bit of saliva would be great?
I've used this respirator for probably 20 years now, and agree with just about everything you've said. I've never broken that back bracket, and never had a problem with condensation coming out of the exhaust valve (but I'm a woodturner, so probably not something that I'd even notice). I will make one additional comment: if you get rats in your shop (don't laugh, it happens), they might gnaw at the mouthpiece, which is (a) damaging, (b) not sanitary, and (c) gross as hell. That's why I had to buy my 2nd Resp-O-Rator.
Loved the snorkel example. I might lengthen the tubes if I were to try that!
The junior version: the problem with that is you're constantly breathing back into the filter, which probably doesn't help it. I think that if you can really train yourself to only breath in through your mouth and out through your nose, you could dispense with the nose-clip and improve the filtering of that version.

One of the best things you could do when you first get one is to cut that brace at the back off & make a leather one, it won't "crack" over time & is much more comfortable.

I have both. I used the big one a few times and it was too clumsy for me. The Jr model desperately needs an exhaust flap.

It is like $500.00, is heavy, makes noise, filters are costly, and has expensive batteries to charge and someday replace.
Duxterity I leave mine plugged in without the battery, wear noise protection and blow the sawdust out of the filter. It’s not the best but it is worth 500$ over just a mask if you do ultra dusty stuff often. I’m probably going to get one of those even more expensive 3m ones
I know I'm late to the party. But what I'd love is this with typical 3M filters. It's basically a mouthpiece with an exhaust valve, connected to a hose with a filter. Make it a thicker flexible hose. Maybe attach it with a strap to your back/shoulders. Shame everything is sold out because of the ronies. I want to sand my window frames and I don't want to shave my beard.

I have used one of these before, and it felt awkward. I also had problems with saliva. My opinion I didn't like it. However the junior version may be better. I have been using cloth masks for motorcycle riding, those are ment to keep road dust out, they seem to work for me.
Ah ok nice! I had not thought about a motorcycle mask, I'll look into it!
I'm not sure how small of particulate they will block, but when it comes to woodworking it's not much different than a paper mask.
Apart from having a beard is their any reason to have one of these over a standard respirator ?
Not necessarily. Having been using it though I much prefer it (the Jr model) over a typical respirator. No straps, nothing pressing against your face, etc.

Hmm yeah not that I know of unfortunately
Yeah, what most welders do (me) if I was in a shop I'd bring a fume vent close to the weld area. That was never enough though, plus 90% of my work was fab'd on site so a good positive air welding mask always worked perfect. Plus being close to a weld kicks off alot of heat so having cool air coming down over your face is refreshing. Before I had the air I had to keep a rag close and wipe my face after every rod. If you're just a hobbyist, I'd go with a good powerful vent, you could make a shop vac work and seeing as you've got a welder in you hands you could fab up some really good brackets and braces to get it close to your work. You might also want to consider a fullface snorkel and hepa filter mashup. Like this:
