An 80s classic that prince đ played keyboards đč on
Prince played the synth on this. She asked if she could steal the melody from Little Red Corvette.
Yeah, I always thought that was such a cool story because he's such an enigma. But the man knew how to collaborate with the best of them!
Nicks has often told the story of how she wrote "Stand Back". She wrote it on the day of her marriage to Kim Anderson on January 29, 1983. The newlyweds were driving up to San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara when Prince's song "Little Red Corvette" came on the radio. Nicks started humming along to the melody, especially inspired by the lush synthesizers on the song, and "Stand Back" was born. The couple stopped and got a tape recorder and Nicks recorded the demo in the honeymoon suite that night. Later, when Nicks went into the studio to record the song, she called Prince and told him the story of how she wrote the song to his melody. On the night of February 8, 1983, Prince came to the studio and played synthesizers on it, although his contribution is uncredited on the album. He and Nicks did agree however to split the publishing royalties on the song 50-50. Then, she says, "he just got up and left as if the whole thing happened in a dream."
Wow - now that I'm hearing this song for the zillionth time, this is the first time I can actually hear the influence of Little Red Corvette.
That is awesome thank you
Prince wanted her to collaborate with him on Purple Rain, but she turned him down.
Fate: Purple Rain is Prince
@@garydavis2473 he wanted her to write the words to "Purple Rain" and sent her an instrumental demo of the song, however Stevie says that it was too overwhelming and had no idea what to do with it.
That is an amazing back story! Wow!!!! So cool!!!!
I don't think you can mistake Stevie's vocals for anyone else. She is iconic.
LOLOL Not one bit!
Nah I always mistake her voice for Dakota Fannings voice đđđ
Stevie Nicks stab at new wave/synth pop. Which was a popular genre during the '80s and early '90s.
yes, those were keyboards and synthesizers.
I think Lex said on another video that Stevie Nicks sounds like a little girl and an old lady at the same time. Uniquely Insightful as always.
I never thought of that, but I like it. That's a good description.
There's only one word to describe the Gypsy's voice- and that is literally, smoky.
A legend. I love her vocals in both Fleetwood Mac and her solo career! I've been a fan since the 70's.
Have you ever checked out Fleetwood Mac with Peter Green ,Jeremy Spencer and Danny Kirwan? They were great blues musicians and much less commercial than the Stevie Nicks band. Many people know nothing about the original band which musically blows away the commercial mid 70s version of Fleetwood Mac
My mon PLAYED THIS SONG OUT when I was a kid OMG. I still know all of the words I heard so much đ€Ł
Brad & Lex, duets you'll love her duet "Leather and Lace" with Don Henley!!!.
She is one of the few women in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame twice (Fleetwood Mac and solo).
actually she's the only one in twice. â€ïž
@@Reclining_Spuds no, Tina Turner is in for Ike & Tina Turner and solo.
@@surlechapeau indeed. Solo is a recent development. âïž
Her voice is incredible, I love her rasp, you just don't see that much with a female artist. She knows how to use it.
Miley Cyrus is one. She also has an amazing voice. I believe she had surgery causing more rasp but it works.
The line "standing in a line" made me remember something: Stevie was so thin during that time; she was hyped up & coked up. Maybe that contributed to her raspiness. She went to her dr. with a hole forming through her nose cartilage and he told her if she didn't stop the coke, she would have a hole all the way through her nose. Vanity won out; she stopped the coke. Snorting it anyway. Love Stevie's sound here.
Lol, I remember playing this for my daughter when she was like 8 or 9 years old because she had never heard Stevie or F-Mac...little fart-blossom said Stevie sounded like a goat (because of her quick vibrato).
Supposedly Prince just showed up at the studio she was in, listened to the song and added those keyboard parts. He left abruptly after that without saying more than a couple of words.
Fun fact Prince Little Red Corvette what's the inspiration for this song and Prince play synthesizer on the song
I love this song, itâs one of Stevieâs solo hits! Prince played the synthesizers on this track, after Stevie called him to the studio! Heâs uncredited on the album however because it was a favor between friends! The song was released in 1983!â€ïžâ€ïž
Yes, it's because she wrote it after listening to Little Red Corvette, and she called him to make sure she wasn't overstepping, and he ended up playing on it.
70/80's Vocal Queen like no other.
This is the 80's Stevie. You've mostly listened to the 70's Stevie. If you haven't already listened to the 90's Stevie, anything from "The Dance" tour is worth your time!
the story of how she got Prince to work on this song is too cute. they remained friends till he left us.
Our Nightbird. There is only one Stevie..
Prince did the keyboards for this:)
Snap! I did not know that.
The original Gypsy she is.
Pier 1 imports first clothing line/dept was Gypsy. Named and styled after Stevie Nicks. She is and will always be a Gypsy in my heart.
Nothing like seeing her perform live, with Fleetwood Mac n especially Lindsey Buckingham who put her poetry to music.
Iâve been a lifelong fan of Stevie Nicks â„ïžđ€ Saw her in 1983 on her âWild Heartâ tour!! My 3 daughters are taking me to see her in October almost 40 years later!! Iâm so excited đ„° Sheâs amazing â„ïž
I had a chance to see Stevie in 1986, for her "Rock A Little" tour. She's a lot of fun to watch...
My mom went to see her in 83 too. It drove me nuts when my mom would listen to her when I was young. Once I got a little older I fell in love with her music. I've seen her 3 times with my mom. â€ïž Sharing that with her is so special to me. I hope the same for you and your daughters!
One of the first few hits on the radio to use a digital drum machine part (Oberheim DMX)⊠in fact, one of the 1st few hits to be built around use of the Oberheim System, consisting of OB-Xa or OB-8 analog poly synth, DMX drum machine, and DSX sequencer. Apart from Stevie's name and vocal recognition, building a song around use of the then VERY new Oberheim System was a calculated move on Stevie's part to give her a 'cutting-edge' sound with this tune.
Hello from New England.. Yep the goat Prince composed and played keyboards on this song..Stevie is a true living legend..Great song which I play on drums My sister toured with Stevie for 4 yrs as a personal assistant and transportation and still has the back stage passes and pictures to show for it... Peace from the Northeast..
Nicks went a lil new wave wave during the '80s, đ. Trying to blend in with the popular music at the time. Cool song, I remember this video as a kid. Prince helped her with this, too. You can hear the influence.
Stevie Nicks' is a legend. Her voice is unreal, distinctive, mystical...
I was desperately trying to get y'all to react to Stevie's 'If Anyone Falls' during your singer/songwriter live stream, and I hope you will listen to it soon. It literally "kicks A$$".
Her voice is incredibly soulful a for white singer. Shes amazing.
"Her vocals to me are like a sizzling apple pie." You got me there. Subscribed!
So glad you've done this, but the whole album deserves reacting to (as does her previous one) - keep 'em coming.
The one and only the Goddess Stevie Nicks
As a twenty something this music video mesmerized me.
Both her beauty and her voice, especially on that ramp with
the wind blowing in her hair. Iâm sure I wasnât the only guy!
I Want My MTV!
Watch Kate bush video singing BabushkaâŠ.you will be double mesmerised â€đ¶
@@BlowinFree thanks for the tip!
Stevie is the best. By far my favorite female singer. Prince does the synthesizers on this song.
My favorite!!! Finally!!âïžđđ
I've been watching your reviews almost from the beginning, and I do believe that Lex might have Synesthesia. Synesthesia is when she listens to music or a voice and sees, tastes, feels, or smells something else. If so, she could have genius abilities.
I love Stevie Nicks! Sheâs amazing. You should listen to the whole album. Incredible! Another great video guys! đđ»â„ïžđ¶âđ»
I prefer the Fleetwood Mac sound much more than the 80's sound, that said being one of the millions of teen boys that fell in love with Stevie back in the 70's I still listen to her music.
Both MUST HEAR Classics,, Fleetwood Mac "Hypnotized" & "Peacekeeper"...Nuff Said.
Your guys descriptions are effing hysterical đ€Ł đ đ đ đ ... seriously!!! Hot apple pie and cigarettes???? đ đ€Ł đ
Stevie is my idea of a rock goddess.
Maybe you could react to Christine McVie's solo work. 'Ask Anybody'.......or 'One In A Million' are the two that come to mind.
She's my favorite witch, love her..â€
Prince did the keyboards...so cool
I would love to see a Natalie Merchant-Carnival reaction Mid 90s
Ah! Stevie in the coke days or daze...... Still talented and beautiful.đ
I remember when this first came out and I have always liked it. It's basically a simple song done really well. Stevie Nick's voice is unique and amazing.
Stevie Nicks has so many great songs. Between Fleetwood Mac, & her solo career, she has made some killer music. Ive seen her in concert with Fleetwood Mac, & also saw her a couple time in concert alone. She never disappoints.
Great reaction đ Stevie has just got such a unique and unmistakable voice, love her music.
đ *The only time I got to see her Live was when she got on stage with Bob Welch at Cal Jam 2 in 1978....really wanted to see her Live; w/Fleetwood Mac or Solo.*
That's amazing. I didn't know she worked with Bob Welch! They just missed each other in Fleetwood Mac.
@@jasonremy1627 Stevie also sang backing vocals on "Devil Wind" on Bob's Three Hearts album.
@@jasonremy1627 Juice Newton sang backup vocals on the Ebony Eyes recording. But Stevie filled in, for what ever reason, at CJ 2. Mick Fleetwood was also on stage for the song. They must've just been there to hang out with the other acts backstage. Or just for each other.
From what Iâve read about the lyrics of this song, Stevie started singing that lyric stand back over and over. It sounded so cool to her she wanted to get into the studio and start recording. Furthermore the lyrics as a song do not comprise any full meaning of a story, just sounded great together with a unique track.
Everytime I hear this song I think of Elton John's "I'm Still Standing". They both out in 1983.
I love Steve Nicks, whether solo or with Fleetwood Mac! This was one of her solo hits in the eighties! Her voice is amazing! I also love that Prince played the synthesizers on this song although not credited on the album!â€â€
I just read that when she wrote this the first melody was based on Princeâs âLittle Red Corvetteâ so now the lyrics seem to be the girls response to Prince maybe đ€·ââïž Prince came to her house and came up with the keyboard part then played uncredited on the song
Ahhhh Stevie is so bad ass to this dayđđ
Oh my, one of my all time favorite woman singers. " Gypsy" is another great song of hers.
Check out â Rooms on Fireâ by her
That's Prince on the synths. :)
Queen Stevie can do no wrong. You have to love her. I always called this "The Treadmill Video". Such a deep catalog of substantial work. She has lived the rock and roll life. Long live Stevie.
Stevie says she wrote this after hearing Little Red Corvette by Prince for the first time.
Love her to pieces! As she says in this song 'no one knows unless you read between my lines' I think a lot of her songs are like that, you don't quite know what she means you just have to feel the song and like it! This and I can't wait are 2 of my favs of her and I think she was at her most beautiful at this time but that's just my humble opinion and of course she is still beautiful now and was before this.
Lexâs take on music is so left field, and itâs great. Keeps you thinking
I always took the song like she wanted someone who didn't want her. Maybe other people were showing her attention but she only wanted that one person. Loooove Stevie she is gorgeous and a LEGEND. đâšâšâš Twirl and twirl đđ I think it's still some kind of love song. đ€ He asked me for my love and that was all. She wants that person.. either way great song love it đđđđđđ
Nobody sings like Stevie and that voice is iconic. She's a queen.
Let's face it. She was it. This is her. End of story.. no more to say.. can't go wrong here. EPIC Stevie.. super review..
I Always loved her, her fashion, look , she rocks đž
You absolutely MUST listen to "Has Anyone Ever Witten Anything For You" from this album written for Joe Walsh. I think in her 'Storytellers' version, she tells the background. Heartbreaking but a fantastically beautiful song.
Yes!
"Stand Back" is from 1983's The Wild Heart, "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You?" Is from 1985's Rock A Little. Her best version imo is the one she did on Letterman in 1998, her vocals just knocked it out of the park especially at the "if not for me then, do it for the world" part.
@@SamuelOrru You are absolutely right! I probably confuse songs between the 2 albums often because they had a similar rock feel to them in my mind. Both were so different from 'Bella Donna', but all of them fantastic!
Regardless of my mistake though, I still feel strongly that any person who's never heard "Has Anyone Written Anything For You", go search for it and listen right now. It's one of the few songs that can bring me to tears, given the right setting. So moving!
agree lex she is a superstar , theres star , all star , then there is superstar and she definatly is in that category
If loved Stevie since I was 13 now at 50 I know now what I didn't know then Stevie is a goddessđ
Hahahahaaaaaa!!!!! Brad!!! Nailed that description!!!!
The Mystical Enchanting Stevie Nicks! The QUEEN OF ROCK! THERE IS NOT ANOTHER VOICE LIKE HERS..!
One of my all time favorite songs!
Lex is hilarious I always think WTH is she talking about .... "Applebees?" ... and then when she is done explaining I think oh yeah that totally makes sense..
Itâs just about sizzling apple pie season too!
That is a great description of the sound and tone of her voice
Lex you got it!!! Stevie Nicks is a boss!!!
I had the hots for Ms Stevie Nicks when I was a wee lad...
"I Can't Wait" by her is a must do!
Thanks!
Stevie and Prince, basically.
đ„đ„đ„đ„Fire Alert!
You guys need to hear Steve Perry & Kenny Loggins duet
"Don't Fight It". A full on rocker! The wild guitar is played by Pat Benatar's husband Neil Giraldo.
Two of the best rock voices in their prime!
Living Legend! Stevie FOREVEEEEEEER!!!
Stevie Nicks
The Wild Heart
Heart 80's Stevie!! #standback #youcantalktome
Stevie was awesome! and Prince was just a hit machine!
Wow; this is so 80's for Stevie...get used to food references Brad;)
You guys should react to more Stevie NicksâŠ
"Leather and Lace", "Wild Heart", "If Anyone Falls", "Nightbird", "I Will Run to You", "Sable on Blond", "I Can't Wait", "Talk to Me", "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything for You?", "Rooms on Fire"
đžđ€
Rooms on Fire has to be one of her best songs, and there are many good ones.
I get chills just listening to her voice sometimes. Sometimes I wish Brad would comment on the song instead of dissecting it. To me it doesn't matter what the songs about actually.
Prince did the keyboards on this song.
Bonnie Tyler was more of the 'cigarette hauling trailer trash' you jokingly referenced. Nicks vocals are gold. Check out her hits with Fleetwood Mac. Applebee's apple pie lmao đ€Ł luv ya Lex đ
Her voice got raspy for a time tho fine with me. To me she's one of the greatest singers ever. Was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame twice. Once with Fleetwood Mac other by herself. Love the long version of Rhiannon on the Midnight Special in 76. Appreciate if you react to it. Hasn't got blocked.
Her voice changed permanently after those first two Fleetwood Mac albums after she joined them. She developed nodules on her vocal cords which had to be surgically removed and her voice was very different from then on. She got those nodules from all the screaming she did during some very long hard tours with FM doing songs like Rhiannon pretty much like she does on that Midnight Special video. After the surgery she took singing lessons to learn how to save her voice, but on the Midnight Special video you're watching her literally destroy it.
@@dggydddy59 Great information, thank you!
There were several raspy female singers in this time period like Kim Carnes and Bonnie Tyler⊠we liked the sound
@@GunsmithSid Kim did great cover of More Love in 1980. One of my favorite songs ever
This is my favorite housecleaning song!! Pure energy âšïž
I remember hearing back in the 80âs that Stevie had vocal cord issues that possibly needed surgery. I remember it being a big thing like she might not have a singing voice again. Not sure if it was hype, but her voice was very different after that.
My all time favorite female singer/song writers. She has so many good song you need to check out. Rhiannon, Dreams, Stop Dragging My Heart Around with Tom Petty.đđ©đź
I'm going to tell you AGAIN.... "Sisters of the Moon"! (FLEETWOOD MAC. '82 Mirage Tour)
I finally get what South Park was getting at with Stevie Nicks, lol.
Amazing singer though.
Stevie Nicks. The most beautiful woman in the world.
Ever see Emmylou?
I love the description of Stevie Nicks voice. LOL. In the early 80s I was taking voice lessons - still in jr, high school - and my first vocal coach asked me what singers I liked, Stevie was in that list and this teacher was horrified. LOL!!!!!! I mean, it's nice to have technique and you should if you want your voice to still be usable throughout your life. That said, I like a vocalist with their own personality rather than every one of them trying to sing like Mariah. I don't want to hear vocal acrobatics that are beautiful and empty. Billie Holiday is an example of a captivating singing without having a huge range or some idealized version of perfection.
There was a controversial girl singer in country music in the 70s named Tanya Tucker that I think sounds a lot like Stevie.
Tanya became a big star herself, after dating country music legend Glen Campbell, 22 years her senior.
She didn't become a star for dating Glenn Campbell. She became a star at 13 by singing great songs with an amazing voice.
She is tiny 5 feet 1 inch but yet such power
My girl... madly in love with her in high school lol...Lots of Stevie lyrics are not easily deciphered or straight forward.
