the among us is obviously the best art signature you can use.
I choked on my water reading this because my signature uses the amongus boy as an R 😅
I've undergone Multiple signature changes throughout the years but I think I've finally found one I can stick to for a long time haha
I would slightly blur or pixelize your signature to test how readable it is. If you can’t read it when pixelized. If your image is screenshotted or saved small…. People will not be able to read it. I’ve seen many pieces of art where I can’t read the signature since stuff is too close together or just it does not read well at a low quality. Like at least to be able to read what the first letter is.
like the video said its not necessarily supposed to be readable, more of a personalized touch to add to art, but more so on a physical copy of the art price. Readability is more the job of a watermark which ideally is going to be more for digital media which is more likely to be shared etc.
That's the point, it's you signing your work. If you want to prevent others from stealing it or other stuff, you use "watermarks" or add some social besides the signature. Just the signature is only a way of signing your work and does not have to mean anything to others.
Imagine drawing something for a family member or friend, you'd sign it so they know it's yours but you don't add any socials or make it more clear since they already know it's from you
As someone who, when I was younger, spent like hours upon hours thinking of a signature, it was really funny to watch this, attempt my signature (THAT I HAVE NEVER ACTUALLY SIGNED BEFORE) and do it perfectly exactly how I remember doing it....will probably attempt it again with these tips though
Ironically I actually picked a really nice looking signature years ago, but *now* it's not going to be aplicable cause I'm changing my name
this will definitely help! Thanks Crowne!
Just STARING at one of my already in use signatures as one of the examples
I love my signature, its so simple.
The signature: 'stairs'
Originally I struggled finding a signature, but I decided that my signature was my characters head, very simple and quick to draw, and quite silly as well!
i do the signature by hand, its basically just my user with a cat paw heart :3 this video is very informative abt signatures!!
This genuinely couldn't have come out at a better time! I just finished something last week and it was the first time I put _any_ sort of signature/watermark on it, but I immediately knew I need to improve my approach. Gonna take some notes for sure - thank you :3
Coincidentally, this video was uploaded on the day my teacher made us create our own signatures. While I was creating a signature to write a document on, I have also had created a signature to write on my art. I have thought of my social media account initials in a cloud shape to repersent my popular artwork.
Even though I am not an artist, This video was very cool and interesting to watch!!!
i go for a more graffiti but plain style. I went though 3 changes in mu signature ,since it went form my initial to my nick name. and I'm happy for how it turned out 😋
cool, i just finished mine new art. the siggnature would be an awesome finishing touch
This video came at rhe perfect time, i wanted to make a signature but didn't know what to do!
Where was this when I needed to pick a signature for my passport? For real this stuff is so hard to figure out! Everyone has a weird cursive sign thingy and I'm like "how the hell do you figure this out people" so I stuck to just writing my surname.
Similar approach to my art signature. it's just ALOS with a year and stylized. And no the date does not devalue my artwork, I had never encountered any problems with it. This feels like such a pain to figure out.
my real life signature is just a scribble of my initials and my art signature is my online name + a bat wing basically lol
don't overthink it, just do something that feels natural and looks nice to you
@@maroonai I do what's the most readable XD
@@alittleofsomething my parents don't so i never learned that to be a necessity. like both of their signatures are very abstract scribbles that supposedly have their initials but i would have never known if they didn't tell me
@@alittleofsomething my first signature as a kid was literally just my first name. i wrote my name on script and that was it. but then a few years later i came up with an early version of what i do now
my art signature is a different story lol
@@maroonai I've been neglected as a child so this one one of the things I had to figure out myself. They don't teach you stuff like this in school.
Kinda off topic, but that two sentence intro was SO fast, SO easy to understand, and SO smooth! I wish everyone’s videos started like that. 👏🏻👏🏻
Tysm! Looking into starting digital art and you are a HUGE help!!!
Man I've been thinking about this on and off for ages. I appreciate someone taking the time to approach signatures!
This helped my brain think finally, I'd always wanted an initials kinda sig or to use a simple fox head, and I never signed my art the way I shoulda before, but now, this prompted me to take the clear vibe I wanted and put it to paper, just skipping to the testing phase you'd mentioned to get a feel for how to sign it and
One clicked *really* well suddenly. Sure, it's a little hard to read if you don't know what you're looking at, but. It's mine, and I'm happy, and it takes a second to sign rather than half a minute, and like you said, I can always add a cleaner thing under it to find me with ^^
This video is really good, and helpful. But one thing: on 1:31 under “Intial” you have an example of initials as “SS”. Don’t use SS as initials. Not even as an example. Unless you have a very specific target audience.
rip to Steven Spielberg and Susan Sarandon and Sylvester Stalone etc etc etc i guess
Sylvester Gardenzio Stallone (SGS) signs with his name + last name, or with Sly. Steven Allan Spielberg signs with S A Spielberg. Susan Abigail Sarandon (after marriage) signs with a scribble. None of them contain SS or look anything like SS. These are celebrities, they definitely can’t afford to be associated with SS.
Sylvester Gardenzio Stallone signs with his name, or Sly. Steven Allan Spielberg signs with SA Spielberg. Susan Abigail Sarandon has a scribble signature. These are celebrities, they can’t afford to be assiociated with the SS.
@@swampertdeck fair enough. like, i get it, i understand why, it just still seems like a little much to set a hard rule that no one should ever use the initials SS even when those are literally their initials. SS is still used for steamships too. my grandmother's initials are BS. her middle initial doesnt help either, since that just makes it BMS. she got in trouble at work a few times over it. obviously thats not exactly the same but my point is... someone's initials are just their initials, and i wouldnt automatically read them the worst way i could think of like that.
It’s not a hard rule. But IF you decide to sign your artwork with “SS”, “KKK” or a swastika, then no gallery will accept it. You’ll offend people, people will think you’re insensitive, or they’ll make fun of you.
SS in sailing/steam ship names predates the 1940s usage. And it’s not a name in itself, nor a symbol, like SS is.
Initals like BS, HH, or CP can be unfortunate in specific situations, but are not nearly as recognizable and offending as SS or KKK.
i think the symbol option might need a video of its own since you dont really get a base to work from like you do if you do it from a name.
Readability is a big thing for me. If I like your art, I want to know who you are so I can find you, follow you, and throw money at you. I know someone whose signature is a chicken. They literally put a chicken in all their art pieces. Couldn't tell you for the life of me who they are though. Someone else does it with mice. Again, I've seen their works 100 times, but couldn't tell you who it is.
I LOVE YOU SO MUCH YOURE A LITERAL LIFESAVER IVE BEEN STRUGGLING SM ON FINDING A WAY TO MAKE A GOOD SIGNATURE AND CONFUSED HOW EVERYONE ELSE HAS A COOL ONE THANK YOUU 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you. I've always had this trouble with art signatures.
Definetly will come useful! And avoid future headaches
I had the pleasure of meeting Sara Woolley Gomez last year at a local comic festifal and she signed my sketchbook with the coolest skull signature I've ever seen and ive been obsessed since with signatures as more than unintelligible scribbles
Mine is my last name (Assal)in cursive but the L strikes through to make the A's middle bar
I made my signature in 5th grade math class. First pass, first thing I came up with. It was my name is cursive with my last initial curving up at the end line to circle everything. Over the years it was mostly become my first initial, a scribble that sort of resembles the shape of the rest of the letters, and the same last initial thing… I’m afraid to change it because I think it’s just funny that mine is so generic it’s funny lol
Thank you! This vid is much needed.
Any tips on deciding/comitting to using a signature of your real name vs artist name? Always torn about that especially if starting a new brand
A lot of that is privacy and business decisions. Does it matter if everyone on the internet knows your real name? Are you planning to work for a company where everybody in the credits uses their real name?
You can have more than one pen name too. A "Should I use a pen name" search might help.
@@CrownePrince thank you, all good questions for me to ponder and chew on 😊
I started to add a bunch of my signature in different places along with a QR code so
I've been thinking about what my signature should be. Perfect timing. Thanks!
Thank you for making these vids. I'm primarily a writer but I like drawing periodically as well and hope to eventually turn my stories into visual novels or comics, so it's always good to learn new things to improve the visual side of my work, including signatures. I have a bad habit of not signing *or* watermarking my stuff, mostly because I don't think of it and don't think what I produce usually merits it, but I know I need to change that. I have an old sig I use occasionally that I need to practice more. I did it one time in a way I was really happy with and I need to practice to do it more reliably, heh. xD
Had an old signature for my username of “Redwolf” where I combined the R and W together and it looked really nice! Unfortunately I had changed my name since then, but it’s still a pretty awesome signature
Perfect timing, Prince! Today I've watched your videos for the first time and thought that I need to come up with a new signature. Dunno what magic type you're using but def there was some kind of mutual synergy!
thank you so much for this tutorial!! i think minus some of the information related to style, this video could also help with general signatures, as well as art signatures!! :3 i’ve always seen people with signatures but have never been able to come up with any myself, so this will be a big help!! :3
Right now I've just used my initials (CS) in a pretty basic cursive (like elementary school level cursive)
Did you plan this with my teacher?? He just gave us an assignment to create a signature for our works! This video sure will come in handy :)
Very helpful 🎉
Hmm I think I'll apply this today. It's high time I learn to make a signature instead of putting my Twitter handle on everything lol
Thanks for this! Shared with Phantora Studio's channel. They're looking to start branching out and this helps! ❤
mine is already a combo, a mix of Symbol with a G initial in the middle
omg awesome tips ^w^
My signature has been something that's been done since I was 10. It used to be clear to read, but It has been over a decade and it has slowly evolved into an unrecognizable doctor scribble... so to not lose people interested in my art I have to obligatorily write the watermark lol
I was just getting curious about this!
me watching this when my signature has been established for years:
First step for me: find a good alias/penname
yeahhh.. the signature part is gonna have to be delayed just a bit
(I believe my signature falls under combo)
My signature has gone through two minor changes and both during middle school!
My signature is of my initials AW
but little me though it was cool if the A was instead a star. So I drew out one of those sucky line stars (idk what they're called but I'm sure you know what I'm talking about).
And so the A was a star and the line in the center stroked through like the middle line in the A and then I just wrote W next to it.
I don't remember if it was the same day or a few days after but I decided to add to it and have the line of the A strikethrough the W and than I added two small greater than signs to the end of it to make it look like a quickly drawn arrow.
This was in the reference to my zodiac sign, the Sagittarius.
And I literally have been using that ever since, literally since 2016!
It makes me feel happy I found it, it quick to draw and recognizable. I use to so much that when I'm initial on contracts I end up accidentally using it (without the arrow part tho).
So far no one had criticized me on signing documents with it so I kept doing it there as well. I think it also helps with fraud since if you were to look you can recognize that the tiny quirks in it are unique to my handwriting.
I used it as my watermark for a bit when I used to also date them as well but I have a different stamp for watermarks. But I never thought about adding a "readable" version to my signature. That actually doesn't sound too much like a bad idea but at the same time, I am worried about people like doxxing me or something if my full name is there.
So I'll stick to my Internet name for that part!
Sent this video to one of my friends at MCT since he been trying to work on getting a watermark. He showed me a few of his and I pointed out which ones looks super cool as well as recognizable but in the end it is his decision on which works best for him.
Respect to her putting on bob ross signiture on thier just because he is great
My biggest problem is that I post my art both as my online persona and in private as myself, so I don’t know if I need two signatures or just stick to one.
this is such a good video thank you
Well is a signature video but the ideas form this, maybe will be useful for make an avatar
I actually really like my art signature, it’s my username (StarGrimmchild but with a lowercase g) and the dot on the “i” in “grimm” is a long cross to look like a star. Pretty cool I think :D
ive always used watermarks when i remember to and never really put thought into trying to make a signature. my online name is just too long to work as a signature lmao
my signature is literally just my first name and doesn’t say anything but i’ve drawn this name in such a specific way for 4 years that i just can’t change it. it’s how i am
I hate how digital art feels so i use the same pencil for the whole drawing. When i wanna post something i sign it by finding the shade style that it would be easiest to turn into a font and darken my name into it
I try to make my signature a hourglass because I don’t want people thinking the other way for example my user is Phiche Pxylode. I don’t want to be “PP” because it sounds wrong and weird. So I do a hourglass to combine the Ps but I’m trying to redesign it so people don’t see it as “DP.” This video seems helpful and I can’t wait to try it out
I’ve Always had trouble with this when I was younger. I had about five different ones I used over seven years but for the past three years I’ve stuck but a super messy HF for HylianFlower that was my first CZcams channel. Even though I no longer have any relation to that name,mi use the signature and my friends recognize it
Before I came out as trans, I would always sign things with a quick DH. It felt awkward trying to make it work as LH, so I think I'll take your tips and design a new one :)
Your username (and I'm assuming, your real name) Is very pretty.
Only way I've found to make my 'full name'-signature fast due to the length of my name is to just du a bunch of unreadable squiggles after B, G and P and make two dashes where the T and the dots over Ö would be.
Oh hey, I used to this for my old username.
hehe hoho
Ive had the same signature for years- yo
And it it fun to see it evolve
I’ve been considering shortening my signature to the first four letters of my first and last name: Kait Kauf, but I wonder if that’s weird??
On the one hand, I like how it looks when I end on the t and f. Very swooshy. And I like how it’s a little faster to sign than my full name.
But what if that confuses people? What if they think it’s my actual name? I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone else shorten their name in their signature before (aside from initials).
If your posting stuff online and you want to use intials, should you use the intials for your actual name or the intials for your online handle?
I say for initials you also have to be lucky with the name you were assigned when born cause it can be either cool or just boring/stupid
Now I do wonder what I'd use as signature considering I'm a 3D artist.
We typically don't draw stuff, we model, texture and render things after setting up lighting and shaders and whatnot.
So I don't exactly see how a hand-drawn signature fits there? I might try it though.
yooooooo cool new video
Meanwhile I took no design as a design. But it kinda "evolved" from blended into the outline to tilted and slightly curved and tucked into a corner, to just being a hand written line of text that I put wherever there's space.
My idea is really, this is my art and I'm just leaving the mark in my own preferred way. Either I got famous in the future and people wouldn't mind that my sign has no design, of I didn't got famous and having a unique looking sign wouldn't help either.
(Though I also have a "sign" that's just a cat with flower on the head. I don't use it to sign my art though, it's more of an "I was here" thing.)
1:34 symbol tends to be my favorite.
My signature is literally just the candy "Taffy" its really nice, pretty, and I love it.but if I ever want to change it,do I have to go back on all of my art(which is a lot💀)and sign the new one,do I just leave the old ones alone,or is it too late and I can't change it at all???
I always doodle a little sona, just 4 strokes and it always comes out (nearly) the same
So you said to basically keep designing until you like one but, that’s my problem. I can’t physically sit down and design a signature
I actually had three different art signatures. thanks for the advise, I will try to make something out of mine
I prefer my Brand name or username.Just simple or easy to searchable. I'm good!
my signature is my initials made into a symbol. I think its settled down on its "final" form. all thats left is let time exagerate that form
I would just use my initials but they're B.L. and that already has associations (boys love)
My signature was a very quick MBV. Which worked back when I had decided upon it. It reflected me, because it was boring. That is not to say i was boring, but it really seemed like I tried to be. I was so concerned with logic, reason and pure practicality that I barely allowed any creativity into my art or my thinking. So MBV worked just fine. But now that I've grown and changed, i don't like it anymore. MBV is boring and the signature doesn't look cool. I think back to signatures like Applecharm Starhorse's, which are simple but so nice. I want one like that. I'll design a new one and it'll be kickass.
Remember, a small variation, but good consistency is how you manage to make AI go insane doing signature, same for water marks.
Oh nice
i utilise a funny little : ) for mine signature, occasinally with my name
I DO THIS!
Hi, I'd use signature by hand, to symbolize whom draw the art, is me.
A person still don't have official waterprint, but only used flag for this purpose.
I was literally JUST THINKING ABOUT THIS EARLIER. I was really wondering how I could makes my own unique signature. Are you a mind reader??
I wanna do one that's just Kat, and make the "K" a star, but idk
TEMMMIIIEEE!
I wanted to design my own signature for YEARS. Thank you for this!
hey quick question: what's your thoughts on putting color in a signature?
My biggest problem is that my name is to long anyone have any tips?
Is it ok to put an app symbol like CZcams in the art signature? Because I don't have any other social app besides CZcams, so someone could impersonate me and post my drawings on other apps like Pinterest without me knowing because I don't use it, so I prefer to put a CZcams symbol
personally I think adding the CZcams logo w/ your username in a watermark would be a better option than having a logo in your signature
gritty??? GRIDDY!!!
*me, who mostly just wants to improve my actual signature beyond my crappy cursive* Interesting....
Work on the signature
Forget about the signature
Work on the signature
Forget it again
I used to have a decent signature for my name that over the years devolved into a doctors scribble
Mine is just
BD~
That's it
STOP USING CP AS A SIGNATURE, PLEASE
😅
Why?
I get why you feel that way but its such a vague and simple acronym, you cant blame everyone who happens to use it. CP has a lot of meanings outside of people who use it for gross shit, step off the internet for a bit 🤷🏻♀️
It's just the state of the modern world unfortunately 😮💨
my actual signature on legal documents is crap so i'm making sure the one i use for art is gonna look better😂
I thought of my online name, and add my sona's tail in the end
I used to sign my art, but got too lazy so I did a watermark 😂
Transcript?
SS. i swear i have seen it somewhere
\*raises hand\* how long is it acceptable to not have a signature? cuz it's been a lustrum and a half an I still dont have one
