- The SPH Explosive Launcher aka shooting sticky explosive loads onto people in Battlefield 2042, the alternative title :P As requested a video on the new SPH grenade launcher gadget included in Season 4. The Assault Class only gadget "fires Smart Piercing Hook (SPH) explosives - “sticky” projectiles".
DICE's view of what the SPH brings to the Assault Class, "that it will bring even more depth to the Assault Class". I disagree with that view, it's a grenade launcher, not a smoke grenade launcher, it's an explosive grenade that sticks to things with a pretty generous kill radius. Feels like BF1 all over again with giving way too many explosives to the Assault Class and it's use is pretty specific or not something you'd really use on armor or aircraft.
For those who think this is for breaking walls what are 40mm grenade launchers for? Assault class would likely have them on their ARs since they would probably be running ARs because of the Assault Class proficiency. Knocking down walls with grenade launchers attached to ARs was something they've wanted players to do since Bad Company 1. Or in BF2042's case use C5 to knock down walls or is this now seen as a waste because of how many C5 it takes to blow up a vehicle and how much you can carry along with how long it takes to fully resupply your C5? In which case shouldn't that be addressed instead of adding another cheese gadget that already exists in a different form ( crossbow explosive bolts ).
If it wasn't clear I was mainly going around with SPH gadget as a primary weapon and trying to avoid using my actual primary or secondary weapons because otherwise using everything as you normally would makes the Assault Class feel way too strong.
For those unusual examples starting around 14:04 I wonder if there is a bug where you can you avoid the damage by crouching or going prone? Or is it similar to the throwing knife where it's a fake register on my client and the server says "NO". We haven't spent any time testing so just throwing out random possible reasons since I can't explain why those players didn't die since according to DICE they should have.
Dozer and Zain benefit in their own ways using this gadget. I tried to avoid playing as Dozer because I felt like I'd create bad habits using him.
Also wow are there a lot of bugs in the Season 4 update. I mean yeah some of them are just returning bugs or ones that were patched previously but still what is going on with DICE's source control. Is this just a mix up with Ripple Effect ( DICE LA ) not using the same source as DICE Sweden?

I have been having so much fun with the launcher. It's super annoying to die to, and super satisfying to get multi-kills with.

@Goob Normally thrown grenades you can run away from, you can even interact with them so your character throws or pushes them away from you. A grenade or explosive that sticks to you and you can't do anything about can be annoying or frustrating to play against, there is a difference. Add to that its absurd blast radius, faster arming or time to explode vs a grenade and it being less noticeable compared to a grenade on the ground and it feels like there was no thought put into the gadget other than lets make Assault Class more broken.

@@Ravic Agree, even the crossbow with explosive ammo is a fair weapon to me since it takes practice and time to unlock the ammo, but the explosive SPH is freaking joke, too OP and in most cases, where you aim is where it lands, so it's too much.
last night was quite frustrating because at least 5 people from the enemy team were using it in TDM, there's no escaping it, it'll kill you in one hit.

This thing is so objectively broken and untested, I just don’t understand how Dice keep managing to do this with nearly every DLC weapon and vehicle. It’s literally a free 4 kills anywhere near infantry, every single life.
Granted, it’s fun to use. Who could have guessed it would be fun when it’s this broken haha

The SPH is the new best humiliation kill for when you sneak up on a camping sniper.

Nothing like having a scar or ak with a launcher on it, this thing and zain with his gadget. The only thing that can kill me is my own splash damage.

My main problem with it is the seemingly massive OHK radius it has. I see the visual warning of it stuck to a nearby wall, think "I'm far enough away it'll only do a little damage" and then get oneshot by it.
Yup, I don't think I've been able to get outside of the kill radius a single time even when I'm someone expecting the explosive to land nearby. Although some of that could be from desync or lag but the activation time is probably too fast to the point that I'm not sure why they even bothered. My guess is it was a way for them to make it seem like it wasn't just another 40mm grenade launcher you can get as an under barrel attachment for most guns.

Dude I used the launcher after watching your video and I am a little above average and was able to get quite a few direct hits and multi kills (25 kills in 3 matches). It is a fun gadget for sure. They (DICE) were smart to give assault a small amount of ammo for it lol.

Some people love explosive launchers in BF2042. Maybe Dice can implement a counter by swatting the grenade away but still take damage like the frags. More of these vids please. Its the best way to troll the campers and such.

My guys fucking with psychological warfare. The transition at 0:57 it's not even fair. I feel violated. I even went back to actively watch something else and STILL MISSED THE ABSOLUTELY PERFECT TRANSITION!
I really miss the M320 from BF4, I was surgical with that bad boy. One of the best counter sniper weapons in the game.
The stick but no damage seems to happen with explosive bolts on the crossbow at the minute too, I've been trying to get it T1 this week and it has been making a bad gun worse

@@Ravic What it looked like to me is the hit box is sometimes larger than it should be, the instance at 14:40 for example hes hit but goes immediatly behind pipes, the explosive is stuck infront of his actual body and is blocked by the pipe. You can see this happen at the Boris 2 minutes in.
This is my best guess though, I dont think it happens 100% of the time but i havent really tested it myself.
@@Ravic Idunno if it's true, but I notice even if you get stuck with it (specifically this launcher), if you get within range of an Irish' APS, it blows up the explosive and doesn't kill you.
I just realized you can fire it twice before reloading. This changes everything!
Pocket explosive crossbow! Except better in every way sans ammo count. Lets see, 4 rounds with the SPH, 9 assorted with an underslung launcher on an AR and 10 airbursts. Oh, and the grenade. That's more explosive firepower then half the vehicles in the game.

Tbh this gadget is the most op broken weapon in the game. One shot of this and you know your fucked. Like the launcher you hit someone on the side doesn’t kill them but with this instant kill

Did you notice a change in the soldier's movement and ADS speed? Sometimes it feels like it gets sluggish or maybe I play Mckay too much.
when i started to play mckay i couldnt play any other specialist after=D
I avoided playing Mackay since the beta because of his ADS bonuses, mainly because of the bad habits caused by it. I've noticed third person changes to ADS strafing that appear broken or desynced which makes hitreg worse but I guess that is the norm for recent Battlefield games. Make the movements too over the top or too much for the current game engine to handle correctly on a broad range of hardware.
imo it would be cooler if it were like the 3GL from Bf4 (aka a grenade launcher with 3 shots), but lower the damage for each shot by a bunch. That way it would actually be worth using to destroy walls more

The airburst was already a mistake by dice, this, this thing is just taking the piss. I gotta admit it tho, it's fun for all the wrong reasons
It should probably suffer from accuracy penalties at range, and give a longer window for players to either escape their vehicle or run, kamikaze style, into the petson who fired it. And maybe it shouldnt have more ammo than you have grenades lol. Or maybe it should be in the throwables slot somehow?

Jeez.. DICE please just remove Blasco's sound affect that comes from her equipment until you can properly implement it. Don't just leave it broken.
i think DICE has also added sound efx to multi kills? dont remember sound efx b4 for a double kill, sounding like an 80's video game/chime sorta. now try a 5 kill. like c5 or a grenade on a grouping of kills. the sound efx corresponds to the number of kills and climbs in a comical way, like an 80's video game.

As an assault player , this thing performs very taking down sniper / recon class players from medium distance. U just need to aim body and forget next. Tip : 2 click for sure.

Bingo feels like it would've made for a better stick safe word. It is very fun to yell, and won't get you in trouble with the neighbors if you yell it when the windows are open.

And the sticky launcher probably shouldn't have gone to the only class with access to a wingsuit. Basically begging the fanbase to convert themselves into flying human bombers.
Im still new to the game and when I get stuck with this thing I always panic and get more people killed in the process. It's hilarious and effective.

BF devs should watch Ravics vids to quickly see what the OP weapons/mechanics are. If Ravic is using it to dominate a lobby, it’s probably OP. It’s a good thing. Not being neg. Ravic is a really good player that uses the tools provided.

I love the gls in 2042 and I certainly like this one but it may need a nerf, but that would imply dice nerfing other weapons as well.....
i don't hate them. i only loathe them if they are poorly balanced. like this one. it does what the crossbow does but with double barrel (effectively not literally), less bullet drop and more projectile speed. + as a gadget not a main weapon. less risk more reward. it is plain bad design.
I mean i wouldnt say its op. However, zane and sundance shouldn't have access to it since they already have explosive launchers with there kits. Kinda like how Lis doesn't have access to other anti vehicle launchers. Not sure why the devs felt like this was ok.......its obviously not

If "W" is your grenade key how do you move? Not with Wasd?
Movement keys are bound to ESDF, everything else is shifted one key to the right. I wouldn't recommend it.

are the weapons stuck to a class or available for all?
Weapons are available to any class, but classes get proficiency bonuses for certain weapon types. Gadgets like the SPH are locked to classes.
This gadget is specific to the Assault Class.

Hopefully they reduce the explosive radius of that thing. Maybe they could implement a way to counter it (along the lines of the bug you mentioned), like if it's on you, say you have 2 seconds to go prone to "disable" it or something. That way you are still vulnerable and reward the person who launched it, yet have a way to counter it.
P.S. I liked your alternate title of the video. I suppose some people would have reported the video.

The biggest thing for me is the explosive radius of it. I'm sure DICE will nerf it. They usually launch OP stuff anyway with new seasons to drum up interest in the game.
