- This is a quick how-to video for installing in-wall boot and register for an in-wall supply vent from your HVAC. This was done as a part of my basement finish project where I am trying to realign the HVAC ducts to fit my needs. In-wall vents which can blow air closer to the floor will be more desirable than closer to the ceiling or in the ceiling since this is in my basement.
Thank you for watching!

Thanks!
THANK YOU! I need to 'close' my wall with a wall collar, and you showed me a great way to help create this. Thank you !
Thank you for watching!!
Im so glad I stumbled across your video. Getting ready to redo vents and taping the gaps is genius...
Thanks for watching!!
I was about to say the same thing but then at the end of the video he said he’s going to move the return. Definitely not gonna get much heat out of it in the meantime XD
Yup I am working on it. Thanks for watching!!
It took me about 20 minutes to install it on my own. As long as you can lift it out the box and up into position you’re good. I did have to break the box to get it out as it was a snug fit. I followed the installation video on you tube which was a big help. I added this to support central air in my house that was struggling upstairs because of my house design. Lovely unit. Very quiet czcams.com/users/postUgkx_hHgTlzH3uk31Fe2RVS3xEbXHGaN_z5T and looks sharp. Had it in a couple of weeks and so far so good. It’s cooling a bedroom about 25ft X 15 no problem at all.
Thanks for watching!!
The returning and supply should be on the opposite side of the room
Did you watch the video? He addressed that at the end. I wonder how the average youtube commenter can afford an internet connection when they're this stupid.
You should have watched the whole video
yeah he says why he's doing it like that! (he's relocating the return somewhere else later)
Hey, do you think this idea is horrible: put my return vent in a recessed cubby area rather than directly on my knee wall. I have a barn shaped attic(home theater in progress). There are no doors on the cubby, or if I do put a sliding barn door I will make sure to add a louver. So I don’t know if this will be very inefficient because it’s not directly on the wall surface? it’s a small space, only 22 x 12’ and the ceilings are only 8 feet high. I have two supply vents in the ceiling.
😱 this part 8 of Halloween!
Good luck with that one, out of the supply, right into the return - nice
Yeah yeah I will be relocating the return as I say in the video
What a dope - LISTEN! He clearly said he was relocating the return
so cool. where do i get this boot?
I got it from Lowes
Im replacing the wall cover because it’s bent and filthy. The screws are tiny and I can’t loosen them what tool is needed
I’d say break the screws with oscillating multi-tool
Do the screws just go straight into the drywall or how does that work? Thanks!
The screw is actually getting fixed with the back panel of the vent/boot. It may go through the drywall or it may not depending on how large you cut out the drywall for the vent. I think either way will work just fine. Thanks for watching!
I’m replacing the wall cover vent because it is filthy and broken. I am having trouble with the tiny screws that hold it in the wall. What kind of tool do I need to remove these tiny screws your help or reply would be appreciated. Thank you.
Do they sell kits like this that you could add to an existing wall (where you wouldn't have access to the other side)?
They sell the kit for the supply vent register. Also you can buy all sorts of duct pieces that you can use to connect to a source. But I imagine it would be more challenging if you don’t have access to the other side. It very much depends on your duct layout situation
Hi I have a question, I just repainted a bedroom in my house, I took off the vent plate that’s situated between the top of the door and the ceiling, and when I looked inside the vent with the cover off it just looked gross to me. I would like to replace whatever that is, it’s strange because it doesn’t look like metal like everything else I've seen in HVAC, it has what looks to be some type of paper or cardboard padding inside it or and maybe some type of insulation material, it’s soft to the touch kind of like poking the paper side of wall insulation and it just felt and looked dirty to me, what do I have to do to replace whatever it is? I can’t find anything that looks like it, can I just replace it with a metal one?
Hi! Are you sure it’s a supply vent? It sounds like a return vent to me. You can check if air comes out or goes in through that. If it’s a return, you wouldn’t need to change since you should have a filter that the air goes through before it gets circulated. If it’s really a supply, then you would want to replace the duct as well, the duct that connects from the source to the vent
Where did you buy this box?
It was Lowes
lol return next to supply? Just gonna suck in what blows out! 😉😉
Thanks for watching! I actually said in the video that the return will be relocated, which I have done shortly after posting this video.
Bro!!! Right next to the return???
Hi Rob, in the video I did install the supply vent right next to the return but I also did explain that the return vent will be relocated as a part of my basement re-finishing project. Thanks for watching!!
Another dope - he clearly said he was relocating that return. you probably voted biden, too!
is that a return vent right next to it??? why in the world would you waste time putting an air supply right next to a return vent?! to cool or heat the area right between the two? because that is all that will happen. not sure how you are envisioning the flow of air in that room.
you NEED to have supply and return on OPPOSITE sides of a room! otherwise, you are simply spinning your wheels, creating pointless work for yourself with no payoff...
Hi, I mention towards the end of the video that I will be relocating the return vent which I did with finishing additional space in my basement
